I'm sorry this episode seemfun and all but if this was the formula of the show I doubt it would make it past the first season. Bright and shinny Meredith is a jugemental snob, Dark and twisty is what makes her who she is. The fact that she is "The queen of people with crappy lives" is what gives her, her edge, her empathy and understanding. bright and shinny Meredih equals black and white, Dark and twisty equals Grey.
I prefer Meredith "Grey".

This is amazingly fun. I like it and I'm excited. It's just interesting, they all seem so happy witht he way things are but there's some things missing.
For example, Callie and Owen aren't really very happy despite the 3 kids. McDreamy is uninspired without Meredith and he doesn't seem to want kids either. Callie and Arizona hate each other. Bailey is still a minnow. And Ellis is the Chief. And it's creepy that April is Mer's person? Alex is Chief Resident, it looks like. And what's up with Lexie? I'm guessing she's still Thatcher's kid and she passed on his substance addiction.
The only thing I liked is the Chief and Ellis. I kind of liked them and I like how Mer is all bright and shiny because she had a father figure. Since she's "Dr. Webber", I'm assuming Webber adopted her after ending up with Ellis.
I'm really excited. It's very cool.
Oh and I agree, Webber caleld Mer "Ellen". Well, she is Ellen but maybe they fixed that in the episode.

If/Then seem like a fun expsiode. It's nice to explore the different possibilties. With seeing this sneak peek of the first 11 it seem that eveything has changed but, I'm look at the surfuace all of of them seem happy. However, you no things is going to fall apart. You can tell that mostly all are on verge of unhappiness and the only one who's been honest about they true feel is Derek. Even this alternate reality they still going to long for each other. Do you see how Christina looks at Owen and the feel you can for see Callie going to have for Arizona. I think in life nothing is that perfect because Meredith is sitting in bar with Derek and not Alex. From a clip she was crying so not perfect in the alternate life either. But at least in there reality they are happy. As far Christina and Owen it going to get hard. They are going to get in a loaded arugument on All I Need Is Love this the VDay exposide so you no they having a hard road ahead.

Isnt it cause Owen doesn't have to bring a Cardio god as a gift to his gf Cristina ? Either way, my question is more why/how Callie's personality led her to Cardio instead of Ortho, maybe Ellis Grey asked her to do something more hardcore ?

Exactly. And it all makes sense : Owen is still back from Irak, we could hear a reference to Teddy but I guess we won't see her. If Owen is not with Cristina, there is no need to bring Teddy as a mentor for her. The only thing I don't get at this point is why Callie is in Cardio, and not Ortho.

You're missing the point. Derek isn't a bad surgeon but he's also not a innovative one either. Ellis is searching for extraordinary and because Derek isn't with Meredith he was never inspired to do the clinical trial so he was never published and Ellis wants her surgeons at the top of their game and right now he just isn't. Meredith is also the reason he went back to do the tumor on Isaac, remember he drew it on the wall and talked it out with her? Everything good in his life is because of his relationship with Meredith. And because he never met Meredith at the bar, he got back together with Addison and is now in a miserable and loveless marriage which has made him miserable

I don't agree. Ellis, Richard, Addison, Owen, etc are the same.
Cristina is still hardcore in surgery, Callie is still badass.
About Derek, he said so he was absent, unhappy when he was with Addison before meeting Meredith in the real storyline.
And even if Ellis is a bitch in all worlds, at least she could have taught Meredith, and if Richard was there with her, she would have been happy and Meredith wouldn't be on her own to grow up.

seriously, WTF? this isn't a what if blah blah. it's what if every character got a sudden and completely random personality shift. This is horrible! People's entire personality is not shaped by experiences, some is just who they are. Ellis Grey= bitch. Always has been, always will be, Richard said so himself. Derek is suddenly humourless and no longer a good surgeon??? At least Bailey is what we've seen before. Others have just conmpletely changed for absolutely no reason except Shonda thinks it would be fun.

This episode makes me think of that movie with Gwynett Paltrow where we see the possible future of her character if she takes the subway or if she misses it.
I'm glad to see that some show can still have a few good episodes after many seasons not like *cough cough* gossip girl *cough cough*

One weird thing though. Alex called Meredith Dr. Webber and yet the sign on Ellis's door said Ellis Grey. It seems weird that Meredith would change her name and not Ellis... But then I guess maybe she just uses Grey at work since it's so well known. I think that was the official reason that she kept if after she divorced Thatcher in the first place...

As much as I am looking forward to this episode, it's going suck to not see the aftershocks between Cristina and Owen after episode 12. And with the episode after if/then, we have the crossover with Private Practice, which means it's going to be focusing on that. Shonda really needs to get organised when sorting this out.

I was going to say that maybe Addie is pregnant with Mark's baby. Ellis wouldn't affect the fact that she cheated on Derek with him... But I realised that they're residents (Alex being chief resident) so it's happening a few years after that.

This is amazingly fun. I like it and I'm excited. It's just interesting, they all seem so happy witht he way things are but there's some things missing.
