January 13 is a big day in the Grey's Anatomy world.

Leading man Patrick Dempsey celebrates his 46th birthday today, while creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes turns 42! Happy birthday to two individuals who have given us so much joy over the years!

Hopefully, Patrick returns next fall for a ninth season on ABC. Is there a more beloved character on TV than McDreamy? Regardless, it's been an incredible run for the actor who embodies Dr. Derek Shepherd.

Rhimes, who has also given us Private Practice, Off the Map and soon Scandal, burst on the scene when she created the Seattle Grace universe way back in 2005. Suffice it to say, TV is better for it.

So thank you, and a very happy birthday to both!
