A solid Santana episode and season. It's the only recurring theme of this season. And I love pamphlets as well. We all need the truth sometimes being blasted in our faces that Santana does so well on a regular place.
Of course, the episode itself was no doubt cringe worthy, but perhaps the necessity of it was 'Taking Account please" of their own actions.
P.S if you have the offense of accepting or not disagreeing with school racial stereotypes such: Asian kids are the harder workers and are better in maths, Anglo saxons/Celtic kids are better are arts and philosophy, and non Anglo students are better at sports, then you have to understand what the episode of trying to make. Perhaps it wasn't trying to be funny.
The point being what Santana said "Follow your passions, not with your wallet," is the morale of the story. Become an Harvard Graduate and a financial investor and we'll see a tomato being thrown your way.

@AmyGirl - not sure if you can claim Glee having a big cast is really the main weakness of the show. Not sure if you've ever watched Grey's Anatomy, but that show has way more series regulars then Glee and each character is so well-developed and the plots are plausible and not at all out of the blue (in a bad way).
Glee is suffering because of poor plot development and story telling. I haven't even watched this episode but I can agree with the reviewer, the show just expects us to fill in the blanks. No, a show needs to develop a story and get the viewers to care, if you drop bombs on us that are out of the blue (Mercedes and Shane, Emma and Will always talking about marriage), the show can't expect the viewer to reason it. They have to give us something that shows it's been leading up to this point!

I for one like that Mercedes has a storyline even if it does not make complete sense. There is potential but as everyone has stated the cast is huge and its impossible to give everyone their due justice. For instance when was the last time that we've seen Tina talk. The season should have broken senior year into two parts to eliminate rushing through the season.

1st episode of Glee that I deleted from my DVR immediately after watching it.... While the performances were good, I didn't care for the song choices..... and, seriously, I can't believe any teacher would do a Spanish matador # and have 2 students act as bulls. I get the underlying message about finding a passion in life, but overall, the episode was blah.
As for Mercedes/Sam/Shane, there have been a lot of moments. Sheesh - Mercedes and Sam kissed during the MJ episode....Summer Lovin is apparently 'their song' now. During West Side Story tryouts, we saw Shane being supportive of Mercedes and he's got a football scholarship.
The writers are definitely making more of an effort to have everyone sing this year as compared to the 1st 2 seasons. I do agree, that after 2 1/2 seasons, we still don't know much about many of the characters.
@AmyGirl: I agreed with you. No Glee fans want to see their shows getting bashed every single week. Perhaps the writer find it fun to gather those Glee haters and ridicule it together. Probably the last Glee review I'll be reading. Thanks.

Being a Spanish speaking Latin I can say this is the worst representation of any Latin heritage. Who writes the script? Glee used to be my most favorite program. I have never seen a such a talent to turn best into worst in such a dramatic way!!!!!!!!
I have loved Glee since the very beginning but ai have to agree, this episode was a mess, one of the worse I have seen so far. First of all, I LOOOOVE Ricky Martin but COME ON!!! He wasn't a Spanish teacher, he was Ricky Martin playing a Spanish teacher. It was, to me, totally unbelievable. And the Spanish music....What the hell was that?!?!?!? With all the amazing Spanish songs and Latino singers the best you could come up with was LMFAO??? Madonna and an 80's Gloria Estefan (at least she is Latin American)??? Elvis firkin' Presley?!?!? WTF?? I was extremely disappointed with the music selection, the dancing and the plot that just didn't have a point, made sense, or went anywhere. With a talent like Ricky Martin and with the heat of Latin musi and dancing this should have been AA amazing episode. Instead it was harder to swallow than three week old tortillas..... Shame on you Glee writers!!!

that was just terrible. When did Will turn into Senor freaking Chang?! Plus, they get Ricky Martin in and the best they can do is sexy and i know it?? If you're going to have ricky martin, pull a community, go meta, and sing a ricky martin song! Seriously, madonna? She's italian! And Elvis Presley? There are hundreds of South American artists, they couldn't pick an actual latin american song?

I agree Matt this episode was a mess. Will doesn't know how to speak spanish and he teaches it? That's like teaching algebra and not being able to add. Lets hope "Heart" is better.

I completely get where you're coming from Matt but think you are missing a slight understanding of the whole show itself. It's a comedy at the core. From the very first episode it developed itself as an hour of good music, laughs and along the way an important meaning or two. Your whole hate on the 'realism' re: Will as a Spanish teacher is wasted. Will's a complete an utter joke of a hunky, un-educated teacher. The fact that his spanish isn't perfect is completely grounded within the realms of the shows genre and themes. It's obvious music is his passion and love. I wouldn't expect anything less than for him to be a shite Spanish teacher.

I normally dont ever leave reviews but as a Latina, I was very disappointed in this week's episode. The lack of any actual true Spanish songs mixed in with the obvious racial stereotypes was horrible. Glee gets kids interested in musical genres and artists that they would normally never listen to and yet the Spanish episode gives us Elvis, LMFAO and Madonna....Loved last week's episode and I had high hopes for this week and it was an hour of crap.

This is one of the reason why having a big cast is not a good thing. Brittany didn't say ANYTHING in this episode. She danced and danced but I want to see her talk! I love her humor. Quinn didn't even talk either. To have an episode be good, do the writers really think they can get away with silencing some of the main characters?? Yeah this episode was bad. And I feel like Rachel and Finn's engagement was like completely forgotten by the secodn half of the episode or something. Seriously, I watch the show for the students in glee club not for mr. shue. So I was bored out of my mind.

But I really think you might want to resign from reviewing Glee. I see so many positive reviews from happy, up-beat reviewers who ignore all the show's flaws. Perhaps the Glee fans just want an optimistic, song happy reviewer.

And I haven't even watched the episode yet and I agree with everything you said about Sam and Mercedes. How can I root for them if I don't know them? Same applies to the other big guy.
Glee's big cast makes the show unique, but is also an extreme weakness.

I've said this before. Glee has over 20 main characters unlike a normal cast with perhaps 6. Glee doesn't have time to develop its characters. On top of the fact they inject music perhaps (this is a guesstimate) 20 minutes of the show? I will give it 20-25 minutes of pure dialogue per episode. There just is simply NO time for any kind of individual character development, couples development (besides Finchel maybe), or group development. Some characters don't utter a word per episode, sometimes a sentence if it's a lucky day.
You're reviewing Glee like a normal show. While I agree with many of your points, this show is one where I turn off my brain and just enjoy the singing.
I haven't even watched this episode yet :P.

I was once a complete glee crazy. My roommate hated me and the constant glee music in the background. I've watched the first episode... a million and one times.
I have to say though, I completely agree with Matt. Glee started loosing me in the second season, and now I haven't even watched the last few episodes. If it was always just supposed to be a show about singing, then fine. But after a great first season with pretty good character development, Glee set a precedent that it seemingly can't live up to anymore.
On another note, I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone qualified to write a good review about any recent Glee episode. I'm constantly reading horrible things in the press - it seems the majority agree with us.

1. Glee is set in freaking OHIO. Where are they going to get a legit Spanish teacher in freaking OHIO. The one time they do find a good Spanish teacher they give him the job. Makes perfect sense.
2. Yes. I absolutely love Sam/Mercedes an want that Shane guy to jump into the pool with weights tied to his feet.
3. Who gives a crap about Sue.
And 4. I'll agree this episode was random and totally a filler but I still loved it. About time they had some Spanish music on Glee. It's not only gringos who like this show.
