Hawaii Five-0 Review: Archer Hits The Mark

at . Comments

This is officially my favorite episode this season. While I was sad that Lori has left the show, I can say that Tony Archer (James Caan) turned my frown upside down and made me laugh so much that by the end the episode I was saying: Lori who?!?

I’m not afraid to admit that I've had a little man-crush on Caan since the first season of Las Vegas. He and Josh Duhamel are what made the show survive when so many other programs about Vegas were failing at the time. As much as I’ve enjoyed the bromance and carugments between Scott Caan and Alex O'Loughlin, having Caan Senior in the mix just made it that much funnier. When he pointed out their “hen pecking” and offered to be their marriage counselor I was cheering.

Danny, Tony, and Steve

Did anyone else expect some sort of nod to Scott and James being related? I really thought we would get some sort of inside joke, but that wasn’t the case. What we did get was Tony giving us some of the best quotes so far this season.

CBS, please tell me you have the elder Caan lined up to make return visits. Not only was he humorous, but he really brought characters back down to earth; their behavior and actions seemed believable for a change. Speaking of believable...

Did you notice not one suspect took off running this week? All the way to the end when they arrested Todd I just knew someone was going to run. I was wrong. Now, before you mention Dumb and Dumber who took Raines’ body (that is how they were listed in the credits), keep in mind that they were already running before Five-0 confronted them. So they don’t count.

I also took note that they explained why Raines and Archer we’re not Hawaiian, that they had moved there from New York. Why couldn't they have done that with Frye earlier this season? Was it really so hard? I hope nobody pulled a finger writing that.

Finally, I’m willing to let the fact that Dennis Miller was only in the episode for three minutes slide given how much they used James Caan. If I had to pick between the two, I’m taking Tony Archer over Bobby Raines every time and twice on Mondays. Here’s hoping we see Tony again real soon.

I'm glad Dennis Miller was only in the episode for a few minutes. I can't stand him anyway and the character he played on the show managed to totally annoy me in just that short time. The rest of the episode was great! They even managed to work in Kamekono. His guy is their guy! That was awesome. And the last scene was my favorite. It was nice to see Danny and Steve relaxing for a change. I'd like to see more of that sort of thing, preferably w

I too was thinking it would have been funny when they were looking at Tony's info when he first came up that Danny should have said "this guy looks familiar" rather than "I have heard of this guy" or what ever the exact words were
Then at the end when Danny was like "One more hug, I love this guy"

I love this show
This was the funniest episode! The banter with James, Scott and Steve was great! So many one liners. One of the best was when Tony said "book him muscles" to Danny and Steve said something like "I like this guy"
Calling Steve Magoo!
I also liked the last scene. This was such a great episode, I would like to see James back again

I loved this ep, not sure I liked it better than last week but loved it. I was actually pleasantly surprised, I didn't know what to expect from the guest stars and I loved them. I still would like to see a better mix of guest stars, something for the younger viewers but this was very good.
I'm trying not to mention Lori anymore, but the reviewer brought up her name again so I will. I think it is very telling that she was no reference to her in the past 2 eps. It's almost as tho they are starting the season over from ep 1, that the 15 eps in between didn't even exist, just my observation.

I loved, loved this episode. Everyone did so well. James Caan was a wonderful addition to the group (hope to see him again). Kyle Harimoto wrote a great script. The parallel to the pilot "count to three" was so cool. This makes two episodes in a row that I can't wait to see again and again. H5O has found its way back (hopefully for good).

Even before James Caan showed up I knew I was going to love this episode. "Monkey, he's got motive, ya get what I'm saying?" Dann-o is gonna be throwing himself into that volcano before he gets her off to college. And Max to McGarrett chasing the suspects "since I am personally responsible for that body, put the hammer down".
Fun fun episode all around. So happy the Fab Four's chemistry is back.
Hope Papa Caan shows up "to help out" again as well.

I really loved this episode! It was good seeing Ed Deline/Sonny Corleone (just to name 2!)again. I miss DaddyC's show Vegas. Dennis Miller's early demise was fine cause James is DA MAN! I loved how he called Steve McGruff then Magoo and Danny Muscles and HairDo!! Maybe we can rename the show McGruff & Muscles when (please, he has to come back) he makes return visits! He's quite the ladies man too, with the way he was eying Kono. I laughed when he realized their table was a computer. A wet, shirtless Danny is a very welcomed sight. Too bad it wasn't for longer...sigh... A group hug, YES, NY Pizza (I'm from NYC so I know what good pizza is!), YES, father and son hugging, PRICELESS. Love this show.

100% agree Best episode of the Season!! Caans Sr one liners had me laughing out loud!! McGruff, Muscles, HairDo, McGoo .......LOLOLOLOL
I really hope he comes back in future episodes!!
And being of the female persuasion, I knew it would be a great episode when you start out with Danno wet AND shirtless!! :)
