Gossip Girl Executive Producer to Run Smash
Josh Safran is leaving Gossip Girl, but sticking around New York City. On screen, at least. TV Guide confirms that Safran is finalizing a deal to take over as the showrunner on Smash.
He'll replace creator Theresa Rebeck - who announced last month that she will step down, but remain as executive producer - on season two of the NBC drama this fall.
Safran started out as a writer on Gossip Girl in 2007 and became its show-runner last year. He is likely to increase Smash's focus on the soap opera aspects of its Broadway production.
He recently chatted with TV Fanatic about the upcoming Gossip Girl season finale.
The fictional play at the center of Smash, meanwhile, will open in Boston on the May 14 season finale. Safran will come on board the series shortly thereafter.

I'm twelve years old and I atllooubesy love the series! I'm trying to get into the TV series too. I really don't understand the whole 16+ thing. I mean, you have free rights to read and believe whatever you want right? Then again, everybody has their own personal views.

Looks like I'm the only one who's worried about Smash's next season. I love this show so much already, I don't know how s2 will be like with Safran wanting to focus more on the soap opera aspects...

1. Hate the fact he experimented with gossip girl like he was just a writer in the first season yeah! Well there you go making him top boss made him experiment on the characters too much, making t soapy -.- dude if you want a soap go work for one .. It's gossip girl , it's meant to be like sex and the city / some rich preppy school i don't know haha ...
2.kinda had a feeling he plan this .. Like you don't make a good show like gossip girl go shit in just 5 seasons -.- epically has anyone noticed how rushed the storyline is in this second half? They didn't have that much effort as they use to it's just soo rushed I hate it -.-

Kinda feel like the title of this news should be Gossip Girl Executive Producer to RUIN Smash (just when I was giving it a try). I hate what Safran did to Gossip Girl. Worst move ever putting him in charge.
