NCIS Season Finale Spoilers: The Return of ...

at . Comments

The NCIS season finale promises to be one of the most explosive installments in the show's nine years, with Gibbs and his team members continuing to track the terrorist(s) targeting the U.S. Navy.

The season’s final big arc, which began with "Rekindled" and "Playing With Fire," continues next Tuesday with "Up in Smoke" before concluding May 15 with the Season 9 finale, "Til Death Do Us Part."

What familiar face(s) can we expect to see? Who's using a stunt double? And what secret was so big the crew wasn't allowed to read it? We obviously don't know, but we welcome your theories below.

Excerpts from executive producer Gary Glasberg's recent chat with EW:

Scott Wolf on NCIS

On the return of Scott Wolf's Agent Stratton: "He’s ultimately going to be needed because of information that he has. The beauty of Scott Wolf is that he’s personable and in using him as a villain this season, we’ve developed a character that had all kinds of dimension and nuance to it. He’s had a lot of fun with it."

"I think people are going to be really surprised by the way that he fits in into this final arc."

On Jamie Lee Curtis' return as Dr. Ryan: "Things really climax in terms of Dr. Ryan in the final episode. She and Gibbs have some amazing scenes together. It fits into the whole arc that we’re leading up to for the end of the season. People will have to see where we go in the finale, and we’ll figure out what’s going to happen after that."

On "top secret" pages of the season finale script: "There’s a scene that the crew wasn’t even allowed to see, so we actually distributed it on the set on the very last day of filming. Very few people were aware of what was going to happen, and I think it took a lot of people by surprise."

On Pauley Perrette (Abby) Tweeting a photo with her stunt double: "There’s lots of excitement in the finale. I highly, highly recommend that people not miss the last two minutes of the finale."

UPDATE, 5/9: More season finale teases from Glasberg:

On the plot to take down Dearing: “This arc is something that we’ve been talking about for a while. And I think people are going to be, not only surprised, but really entertained by how it unfolds."

"Anytime that the team gets to work mode as a cohesive unit, people enjoy that and respond to it. That’s definitely the case in terms of this storyline.”

On the complexity of the arc, even by NCIS standards: “There are so many elements to it that connect directly to Gibbs that explain a lot of the motivation on Harper Dearing’s part [and] that will connect to Jamie Lee Curtis and even connect to Scott Wolf’s character ... A lot of planning has gone into it.”

On Palmer's wedding: "It’s a really fascinating juxtaposition of this Palmer moment with the manhunt that’s going on for Harper Dearing. [Co-executive producer] Steve Binder came up with a really clever way of jumping back and forth between the two and weaving the two together."

"I think it worked really nicely and people are going to get the lighter moments that only NCIS could pull off. At the same time, we don’t miss a beat in terms of keeping the hunt going as well.”

On the major cliffhanger to come: “People are going to be very surprised by what happens. There’s no doubt about that ... There’s going to be a ripple effect that goes through NCIS.”

We'll post more information as it becomes available. For now, sound off on these NCIS spoilers and share your predictions for the remainder of the season in the comments below!

My wife and I love NCIS and never miss an episode and certainly the best show on TV. We had a good laugh when we read the comment from a fan about Jamie Lee Curtis and Mark Harmon in a kissing scene. He commented, "I almost upchucked my dinner". How true! We felt the same way! We have the greatest respect for Curtis and Harmon as actors especially Harmon but watching those two kiss was like Harmon kissing a sister!I believe Harmon needs a romantic interest but it should be more tantalizing! We suggest the black-haired actress Rena Sofer who already has appeared in several episodes as the hard-nosed attorney on the show. We think she is a perfect match for Gibbs. We would love to see those two kiss!!!

I pray that Ducky don't die. He is like a father figure with the team. I love that Jamie Lee, is on the show, she adds spice to it as well. As for her and Gibbs, I think people so use to seeing him being the Lone Wolf and the Player of Women, and Hard nose Agent. But he finally found someone Just like him, someone that plays no games, and Just maybe, just maybe learning to live and love again, after all these years after the death of his wife and daughter. I for one, will stand and applaud, that a Hard nose agent, finally finds someone like himself and someone to love, and still be the same old Gibbs. But don't let any of the team die..especially Ducky.

I feel at ease now that Ducky will come back. I hope all of the ncis team is ok. Love Jimmy Palmer and new bride. Do not like JLC with Gibbs. Keep Ziva wanting Tony they really click. Bring back Col Mann!. Great season and look for the next one. My family LOVES NCIS

Ok I am a die-hard NCIS fan, this show is literally the best show EVER made let alone the best on TV!Ive bn watching since the beginning and feel like Ive grown with the characters thru the 10yrs, and I LOVE Our Cast theyre like family lol I hv to say if you kill off/write off anyone please let it b Dr.Ryan I love Jamie Lee but as far as our core group its beyond PERFECT the way it is/has been!I really will cry if Gibbs,Ducky,Abby,Dinozzo,Magee,Ziva, even Palmer is gone. Please Dont do That! And commenting on a few of the earlier post.No dont bring Kate back she was good but Ziva is AWESOME! And I also liked Gibbs and Colonel Mann. TY :)

Get rid of Dr. Ryan.......she and Gibbs together make me sick and I hate watching it when she is on. Love Jamie....hate Dr. Ryan..and definitely hate the two of them together!

Oh no Ducky, please let him be okay. collapsing doesn't mean dead, right? And the blast poor Tony and Ziva got the worst of it. Abby and Gibbs looked like they might not be as badly hurt. Explosive finale definitely. Last season was not as bad, I didn't care for EJ anyway. Poor Jimmy they ruined his wedding. maybe they will have a nice party when everyone is better.

not ducky. i want kate back. remember dallas? this is just a dream and a bad one at that.

I can't believe we just watched Ducky die. Please kill off or write Dr. Ryan out of the show. She is just a distraction, taking screen time away from the cast we love. I don't think Gibbs trusts her and she and her family are just trouble. Why does the NCIS team suddenly need the psych department looking over their shoulders? I can't imagine fans will appreciate another Dr. Ryan arc that has Gibbs trying to find her and protect her from her ex-husband...a waste of our time. Keep the best show and cast on TV together.

please please tell me it is not GONE just off for the summer OM

It is going to be a long summer while we wait, but "Ducky" is not dead. David McCallum has signed his contract for two more years. I just hope that all the rest of the team is OK, but I have my doubts. Kind of upsetting. This is a TV show, granted. But this cast has become like family (which has never been the case for me with any other show, even some I have liked a lot).
