NCIS to Explore Love ... in an Elevator?

by at . Comments

It was no accident that fan favorites Tony and Ziva ended up in an elevator at the tail end of NCIS Season 9 ... which makes sense, considering that most people take the stairs during an evacuation.

Where does that leave them when we pick up next fall, in the aftermath of the explosion that destroyed the agency's headquarters? Show-runner Gary Glasberg weighed in on that with TV Guide.

"We'll pick up with them in that elevator and, with the situation that they're in, there will be some conversations," he says. "Hopefully we'll scratch our way a little bit deeper into the relationship."

How's that for ambiguity? Read into it however you like. Time will tell if it serves as an actual turning point for the "couple," but either way, those are guaranteed to be must-watch scenes.

Anthony and Ziva

Tony and Ziva aren't the only ones in precarious positions after the end of "Til Death Do Us Part."

As for whether the team will end up with new digs after the bombing, that's unclear, but the emotional cleanup of the team will be more significant than the physical rubble, Glasberg says.

"There are psychological ramifications that will carry over," he says, in particular Ducky's heart attack.

"How will that affect his character as a medical examiner and his long-held approach to dealing with the dead? How might it change him and the way he views things?"

We welcome your theories on that in the comments below. Follow the link for more NCIS Season 10 spoilers, and tell us how you think things will shake out with Ducky, Tony, Ziva and everyone else ...

For Carol Gburek - Don't worry - it is mere fan speculation that MW might not return for season 10. The status of contract negotiations for MW, PP, and SM regarding season 10 have not been made public. Some of us Tony fans however worry about his return, because in the last few years the writing of his character has been quite demeaning. He is always written as wrong with Ziva and McGee smugly right, is almost never cast in the exciting danger scenes, as these all go to Ziva or/and Gibbs now, and he is the butt of every joke. Add to that, that MW has not really supported the idea of tiva (which is really also demeaning to his character, since Ziva treats him like scum most of the time, and one has to wonder if MW might just be frustrated enough to move on to somewhere where his talents might be better appreciated and utilized.

This is the first I heard that Michael Weatherly might be quitting for Season 10. Please say this isn't so? He is the best part of the show
with his character of Tony DiNozzo. Please let him stay!

I disagree with the assertion that being on the same team is the same as being in the same agency, regarding romance between co workers. I think that Gibbs has always been against agents who are on the same team becoming romantically involved because he knows from personal experience, that it is dangerous. When he got upset with Tony over EJ, it was precisely because he saw that EJ's presence was affecting Tony's concentration at work, and they weren't even on the same team. If the writers decide to go the tiva route regardless of Rule 12, I think it will sink the NCIS ship to the level of soap opera, rather than being a crime show. I really hope NCIS doesn't fall into the "sex sells" trap, but it may already be too late. And to Mike - If MW quits, my guess is that they will waste no time getting a new hunk in to admire super Ziva. But the many other aspects of Tony, could never be replaced.

So what will happen if michael wealthery quits ?

Well MzLady, I like how you suggested Ziva moving because I never would have thought of that!! We all know that by the end of the series it will happen... The directors and writers admitted it in a video.. The said it was going to happen they just don't know when... Neither do we!!

COMO ME GUSTA TODOS LOS COMETARIOS DE UDS. Y QUIERO PREGUNTAR SI FUE LA TRADUCION QUE SE HIZO ACA EN MEXICO, PERO CUANDO ZIVA Y TONY ESTAN CONVERSANDO DE LO QUE ODIAN DE LAS BODAS..DESPUES DE QUE ZIVA PREGUNTA...¿ FUGARTE?, GIBBS SE DIRIJE A ELLOS Y DICE: "A MI ME VALE", " QUE ME TIENEN?", SI EL SIEMPRE SABE TODO, PUES YO INTERPRETO QUE..PUES ESTA PONIENDO EL SEMAFORO EN VERDE...PERO ASI LO INTERPRETO YO POR LA TRADUCCION.

@Jinx - Hi! Oh, trust me, I know exactly what "proof" you're talking about. I am a fan who usually catches the fine details that others tend to miss :0)I'm not worried about whether or not T/Z will happen; I was just responding to your previous post regarding Rule #12. To Aja: I understand your point, but I think you're missing the one that's already been made by the show's canon itself: To Gibbs, being "on the same team" & "in the same agency" are one and the same. EJ & Tony DID violate Rule #12, according to him. He told EJ to her face: "My team...my rules". Trying to differentiate as to which scenario violates Rule #12 more is like splitting hairs. Again: Rule 51 eventually superscedes Rule 12 - which was already violated originally by Gibbs himself. Harmon actually commented on this issue on the S8 DVD set. When Tony takes over as leader @ the end, Ziva may indeed be moved to another dept within NCIS so they can freely have a relationship. Who knows..

I am hoping and praying that Vance will fire either Tony or Ziva for that

It rankled to see both Tony and Ziva step into that elevator during an evacuation; I'd have thought they were smarter than that. First thing you learn when evacuating a building is NOT to board an elevator...for various reasons.
To me, it was just another way of inserting a Tiva moment...for the Tiva fans...as if they're the only ones that count. I, for one, am against any serious relationship between the characters and not because of Rule #12. I used to be McAbby, but Abs will have to grow up! Her attitude is just...off and Gibbs just tolerates that. And McGee? Whenever they turn up with a promising love interest for our Geek on the team; they turn her into a baddie...or just write her off at some remote point (re: Max, the gamer girl from Kill Screen). I really don't see the fun in that... All there is, is the UST of Tiva and McAbby. As for Gibbs; where's Hollis Mann?
