You're kidding right, Max Keenan and not Seeley Booth, makes me gag to even consider that. Great dad Max Keenan, conspiring with his daughter to run off with her and Booth's daughter, Great father material....not.

  4. Judy

    I vote for Burt Hummel!

  5. SWAG

How can this poll not have Sandy Cohen??
He is by far the best TV Dad that there was or ever will be.

My vote goes to Rick Castle. Despite the fact that he's wealthy and can buy Alexis anything, he made her earn the money for a scooter she wanted. He was flexible enough to give her permission to do a semester of high school overseas, but protective enough to be relieved when she decided not to. And he encourages the fun side of her (father-daughter laser tag) while being proud of her responsible side (she was, after all, class valedictorian).

Rick Castle is the best father in this collection. He created the best daughter by showing her what NOT to do. Prince Charming isn't exactly a father, we'll see in season 2 how things will be now that he has a daughter as old as him! LoL! Walter Bishop is also a good father, he did whatever he had to save a version of his son. Its amazing.

WALTER BISHOP IS THE BEST DAD on TV! He destroyed (unintentionally) two universes just to save his son!

    Martin Bohm (TOUCH)

  17. Matt

Uh, Martin Bohm from Touch? How many people would have that much patience with a child who won't talk and acts ridiculously, even if they can see the future?

Also, Detective Brittan from Awake is a pretty awesome dad considering the circumstances.

  18. T.J.

Ahh...hello...Walter White is best dad on tv.

  19. salma

    Rick Castle!

    To: Black Sitcoms,

When I came up with this list I was struck by the lack of diversity on it too. I agree that all of the choices you mentioned were worthy of a best father's list but they are all from TV shows that have since ended. For this poll we wanted to keep it to shows currently on prime time TV.

Admittedly I watch a lot of TV but there's no way I can watch every current show out there so if there's someone you think I missed please let me know here in the comments.

    Thanks.

It is so sad that there are no African-American or men of color fathers on this list. In the 1980s Cliff Huxtable (The Cosby Show) & Lester Jenkins (227), 1990s Phillip Banks (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) & Carl Winslow (Family Matters) & 2000s Julius Rock (Everybody Hates Chris) were great fathers depicited on television.

Sidenote: I hope next year (Father's Day) that this list will appreciate and recognize the "other" fathers in the television world.
