Excellent perceptive review. I totally agree that Rachel has no sex appeal. She is earnest and determined, but definitely not sexy. The music was not inspiring, in fact it felt like a whole lot of other episodes. I would like to know why Brittany always speaks in a high pitched nasal mumble, almost impossible to understand. I hate to say it, but Jane Lynch was the most sympathetic character of the night. She behaved the way a teacher should. (Don't get me started about Principal Figgans' speech; that was just appalling.)
All in all I have begun to think Glee has lost its way.

What happened to Rory? Not that I care much, but I thought he was coming back this season. I'd almost rather see more of the original cast and less of New Directions. I can't seem to get invested in the new kids. But I thought Brittany was great, as usual, in this episode!

I noticed Dianna Agron's name isn't in the opening credits anymore...does this mean she is no longer on the show? When did that happen?!

Was that Martin Landau with the cell phone. Make him turn out to be Brody's grandfather and give him a part where he has MS. July murdered as in Crimes and Misdemeanors.
Brody is too attractive to be available. Somewhere in New York there's a woman who still considers him her boyfriend and probably another back home. If Rachel hooks up with him let her learn the truth in a week.
Britney can't go long without sex, but Sam should resist. If they consummate its time for her to get AIDS (and I hope she does.) That would be great for Heather and might save lives.

I totally dislike the new characters. The show is lacking the energy and vibe this year that it once had. The "new" Rachel stinks, she is no match or even a close second for the actions and singing Lea Michele used to do on the show. STOP THE TRIBUTES for Spears for crying out loud. She herself is a train wreck, why idolize her. The writers are going to really need to step up their games to keep loyal followers from deserting the ship, forget new ones from hopping on. Just sayin"

...than waiting for Finn, whom I bet has moved on. Rachel should move on, too. And Cassie is loathesome, a horrible teacher and not at all what performing arts school teachers are really like, at least to my knowledge. I really miss Mercedes and Santana, never more so than when I have to listen to the new crop of singers, most of whom are pretty dull.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that I just do not like the Jake Puckerman character at all. I don't like the actor who plays him, because I don't think he is at all attractive, nor do I feel he's talented enough to warrant a place on this show. I sincerely hope Blake, who won the Glee Project, will swoop in and basically remove Jake from the Glee club and the school. I know that Blake is talented and has a gorgeous voice because I watched him through all the eps of Glee Project 2. Meanwhile, I also think the gal playing the new Rachel has zero energy, and her voice and presence isn't half as strong as Lea Michelles. She's boring, basically, and never is that more apparent than when we get to see Rachel and Kurt in NYC, though we've not really gotten to hear much singing from Kurt yet, much to my sorrow. And I agree that having a second Brittany tribute ep was a huge mistake. I do like Brody, though, and I think Rachel would be better off having an affair with him rather th

Sadly, Glee is a shadow of what it once was. It's almost painful to watch and I'm just about ready to give up on it. Everything seems so contrived now. The whole Finn joining the Army to redeem the good name of his father made no sense. How does him being in the military change his dad's service record? It was just a way to split he and Rachel up (they were just too damn happy)so she would be a free woman in NYC. And there is no uncertainty whatsoever about what is going to happen between her and Brody. They both look like they are about to jump each other's bones every time they get together. I fully expect them to end up in bed by the next episode and it will be "Finn who?" as far as Rachel is concerned. I will be very surprised if this isn't this show's final season.

What if Jake had wanted to meet Puck on his own terms? What if he did not want to meet him at all? Also, I doubt Puck is interested or wealthy enough to drop everything to buy an expensive plane ticket to meet some half-brother he never knew about and give him advice for problems he only heard about through his high school glee club coach for 2 minutes. Completely unbelievable and somewhat pointless imo.
Again the original glee kids are mostly ignored so the writers can "develop" the duplicate new characters. Ugh. I'm done.

I keep watching Glee with the hope that it will get better, but I feel like I am continually disappointed. There's no central plot (other than the always present MUST WIN AT NATIONALS looming haphazardly somewhere in the distance).
The writers had a great opportunity with exploring Brittany's emotions after having everything go poorly for her - long-distance relationship, no longer head Cheerio, terrible grades, being held back, friends that have moved on, etc. And they made her just some caricature of Britney Spears. They could have really explored Brittany more in depth, getting the viewers more invested in her character, but completely blew it.
The Brody/Rachel simmering relationship is completely predictable. Kurt is mainly used as a plot device for Rachel, when they could show more of his struggle to survive in NYC as well.
The part with Jake and Puck was unbelievable. First off, it's unprofessional for Will to force a meeting between the two brothers. What if Jake h

It was just plain awful. I was hoping for something like Brittany 1.0. Rachael was not the least bit sexy. I kept hoping for numbers like the one Santana and Brittany did in 1.0. Just started watching Glee again this year, but if this is the caliber of the shows, don't think it will last long.

I honestly don't expect too much out of Glee, so I feel comfortable saying that despite dismal expectations, I agree with this review in its entirety. Unequivocally. I was pleasantly surprised by the premiere. I actually enjoy the new characters even though I admit they are pieces and /or carbon copies of other characters. This episode didn't do it for me though. Bored me to tears. Aside from being fundamentally opposed to Britney Spears getting one tribute episode let alone two..they threw random stuff at is with no cohesion whatsoever. I Loved seeing Puck again, but I was under the impression the brothers meeting would essentially be Jake's arc for the season. Not poorly, inexplicably, and quickly thrown in for a minute in the second episode. And yeah recycled stories galore. Complete concurrence with this review.

Bob R. Brittany's character is bisexual. So it's a bit offputting that you want to put her in a box and only have her date females. Each character is supposed to be relatable and for bisexuals watching television they want to see a girl whom they can relate too. High school bisexual girls date males and females and rarely have long lasting monogamous relationships. Especially a girl as promiscuous and ditzy as Brittany. As for blaine I've said from the beginning that Darren Kriss is terrible at acting gay. He has more chemistry with all the girls then with Chris. If they want gay couples on the show, the Create realistic ones. Plus I've read spoilers and know their relationship is rapidly about to come to an end. Plus I just love drama and love when hot people hook

This episode didn't make sense to me. The writers tried to include too much - pre-existing glee club members, new ones, McKinley's day-to-day issues and New York - while trying to tie it up in one neat 'theme of the week'. AND trying to draw parallels to Britney's real life while they were at it. Overkill.
The performances were pretty good, but the contexts almost always made no sense. And I really thought Britney would own this episode like in Season 2. Plus all-knowing sam, newbie love-triangle and blink-and-you'll-miss parts aren't helping Glee. The writers need to sort out their priorities.

I love Glee and have stood by it through all the silly tribute episodes and message of the week. I still don't understand why they did a second Britney episode when there are soooo many more talented artists they could honor like The Beatles or Frank Sinatra. But my biggest problem with this episode is the new people are exactly like the old people. By the end of the episode it was very clear to me that Kitty is the new Quinn/Santana, Jake is Puck/Finn, Unique is a male Mercedes, and as soon as Marley began singing at the end of the episode she clinched her spot as the new Rachel. And once again Tina, Artie, and Sam are in the background.
