The Good Wife Review: Cursed

by at . Comments

The Good Wife featured a public relations scare this week, while Alicia also faced difficulties at work. And then there was Kalinda. She continued to hang out with her creepy and dangerous husband.

In "Two Girls, One Code," Will and Alicia's clients created a voice recognition software that went out of business when their search engine ranking went from page one to page 28 of results. The influence of search engines is huge on businesses, so I found this case to be intriguing.

I did find it difficult to believe that a search engine company would penalize a business for not buying advertising, but I guess anything's possible. The real reason for the search downgrade made much more sense. It was in Chumhub's interest since they bought the competing voice recognition company.

Last Sunday, I complained about the lack of pre-trial research and it struck here again. Shouldn't Will have known about the competitor's ownership before they went to court? I know, it makes for a better mystery and case, but it's a tad annoying. Still, I loved the way the case played out because it was unexpected.

Waiting on Peter

The sensitive nature of the search engine's algorithm and the demand to keep it private was a compelling argument, but it was what the case hinged upon. Just because something is a trade secret doesn't mean you should be able to hide behind it.

In the end it didn't matter. The girls were suckered into dropping the case with jobs running the competitor that put them out of business. They could have had millions to do whatever they wanted; instead they got gigs and the law firm got screwed out of their cut.

Wasn't that unethical? Representatives of Chumhub had to have talked to the Lockhart Gardner clients without their lawyers present, right? Since it is a civil suit, it may not be above board, but it's not illegal. The law firm will have to find another way to save itself.

While the case was going on, there were a few personal problems taking place as well. A reporter was working on a juicy story about infidelity in Alicia and Peter's marriage. Alicia really has been through enough. It wasn't her fault that Peter cheated on her and she left him. I was glad that it wasn't a story about Alicia and Will. If she wanted to move on with him, there was nothing wrong with that. And for Peter's campaign to bring her more pain is unacceptable. Thankfully, that didn't happen.

Peter, though, is going to be an easy target for scandal. If he makes one wrong move or even the appearance of impropriety, he is going to go down. Given his past, people will believe it, so he was lucky to have Eli on his side to search out the truth and put a kibosh on the story.

This time Peter wasn't lying and Alicia rewarded him with a kiss. Ugh! I don't know why it bothers me so much, but I don't want Alicia to get sucked back in by Peter. Even though I do believe people can change to a certain extent, Alicia would be taking a huge step backwards.

If Peter wins the election, will Alicia give up her job and move to Springfield with him? Unless of course, he governs from Chicago, but that didn't work out well for the last Governor that tried it. In the long run, Alicia needs to stay separated, or actually divorce him, to keep the life she has grown to love.

As complicated as Alicia and Peter's marriage may be, it doesn't even come close to that of Kalinda and Nick. Whoa! What the heck was up with that eggs, frying pan, knife, and bigger knife situation? They are a crazy ass couple and I've had about enough of it. It's been nice to get some back story on Kalinda, but why doesn't she cut him off? Or get a restraining order?

The relationship with Nick doesn't coincide with what we know about her. She's a kick ass, strong woman who stands up for herself. It's difficult to understand why she is acting this way. I loved the return of Lana, but again, Kalinda was using her.

Did Kalinda want Nick to find out and go after Lana? As a Federal Agent, he'd be right back in prison again. Kalinda has manipulated the situation for her benefit, which sounds like the Kalinda we know.  But at what cost? Lana is innocent is all of this. It would be one thing if the couple set a trap for Nick, but Lana doesn't know what's going on. She could be seriously hurt by Nick if she doesn't expect him. I'm disappointed in Kalinda this season.

I hold out hope that this storyline will redeem itself, but it needs to be very soon. When this is all over, I expect Kalinda will come out even stronger than before, but it's a difficult road to get there.

Are you happy to see Alicia and Peter getting closer again? Or should Alicia continue to keep her distance from her husband? Are you tired of Kalinda and Nick's destructive relationship?

Does anyone know the song that played in the most recent Good Wife episode Oct 14...it plays in the opening scene and then again near the ending when Eli and Alicia are talking.

Cannot agree with the reviewer's strong distate for a Peter-Alicia reconciliation. Th Kings' portrayal of this marriage in all its ramifications is interesting, plus Peter has tons more chemistry with Alicia than Will does. Will is a good colleague but a totally meh love interest as far as I am concerned. And if the model for the Good Wife's marriage is that of Bill and Hillary Clinton it should be noted that however it may look from outside their relationship, for them it works and is based on an abiding respect and love. Peter, like Bill Clinton, had (or has) a hard time keeping his fly zipped but no trouble identifying whom he loves.

lose this husband of kalinda, it is boring and waste of air time. More Cary please, he is one of their best characters and they arn't using him at all. STOP THE BANKRUPTCY SILLINESS!!!! it is distracting and again, wasting valuable air time when they should be focusing on trials, where alicia really shines and kalinda digs out information. TGW lost it's way last year with that stupid willicia nonsense will being suspended (STUPID)and is now drifting further off track. I like the flirting between alicia and peter and for once having a family get back together would make it much better.

Kudos to Nathan Lane for the restraint he is demonstrating playing this character. It's great to see comedic actors step out of their box and get serious, using every bit of their inherent likability, as well as the good "acting chops" developed over a varied career. Excellent casting choice and he is unexpectedly good! Diane is no one to mess with and we continue to see that in her professional yet take no prisoners personality! The Good Wife has very well-rounded characters; we not only know them well, but we care about them! Now all we need is a little more "David E. Kelly" in the writing, particularly on the points of law. Let's have some cases that matter, even mirror many of the legal questions facing us today. As for Alicia's relationship...well, that's for her to decide but isn't it interesting how many opinions are out there about this situation? Peter is a powerful, attractive (and flawed) man just as we ALL are and keeping a family together should be a priority unless it comes at the personal cost of one's own happiness. We can only imagine what the "good times" were like in their relationship, but I'm sure Alicia remembers each and every moment. It's no wonder she vacillates every now and then depending upon where her mind wanders. It can't be an easy decision and and I say "hats off" to her for standing by her man during the campaign-she'll either come to love him again or find out that's NOT where she wants to be. As for Kalinda, we sure are talking about this story line, like it or not. I'm willing to bet the writers are not wasting our time. I only hope it doesn't get in the way of her clever and wacky sleuthing that she does so well. Everything needs to come together to bring this show back to its former glory. I'm still however a firm believer, and for now Homeland is providing all the suspense I can stand!!

I don't give two F's in chinatown about what people think about Alicia and Peter they need to go backwards and make things right again. This bed hopping by Alicia and not Peter is the reason to back up and see what they are ruining their lives and also the kids too. The story line has revenge written all over it not moving on, it is a proven factor in life that a person going back into the work force makes themselves very vunable when treating family as second class people. i have seen to manny couples screwup their marriages between ages 26 to 45 because one or the other can't keep their legs closed when after work at happy hour which they shouldn't be at. SINGLES ONLY.

I too am sick of Kalinda putting up with Nick but abused wives do that! That's why she had to go away and change her name. It is annoying but I trust the Kings to sort this out. I'd love it if Kalinda was using Lana--Lana used the power of her office to "chase" Kalinda and being Gay, I learned to hate her for it. She has a little comeback coming back! go Kalinda!

I am in agreement with everyone - enough with the horrible Kalinda storyline - use Cary more - hate Alicia and Peter - love Diane and Will - and think Nathan Lane is doing a superb job as the Trustee -

Episode 1 was back to form, but Kalinda and her ex are just boring, boring, boring.
Cary is doing so very little. As the newest lawyer, albeit a returnee, wouldn't he be surplus to requirements in the eyes of the accountant and be shown the door?
Can't the writers ditch all the internet cases - rich internet bullies are all the same.
And whatever happened to Matthew Perry?

I'm very very over Kalinda's husband and this rubbishy storyline. Kalinda has been a bore this season (she used to be my favourite) and the 'evil husband' is not just a cliche, but a bad one too. They need to dump it and soon. TBH, this season has no real 'centre' and is flailing about like a fish out of water.
