Larry Hagman Passes Away at 81

Larry Hagman has passed away from complications related to cancer. The legendary Dallas star was 81.

Larry Hagman Pic

Hagman - who also appeared recently on Nip/Tuck and Desperate Housewives - was surrounded by loved ones at a Dallas hospital yesterday around 4:20 p.m. when he passed.

He had announced in the summer of 2011 that he had been diagnosed with a "treatable" form of cancer, but then celebrated a few months ago by claiming it was in "remission."

Said Warner Bros. TV and Dallas executive producers Cynthia Cidre and Michael M. Robin in a joint statement:

Hagman was “a giant, a larger-than-life personality whose iconic performance as J.R. Ewing will endure as one of the most indelible in entertainment history. He truly loved portraying this globally recognized character, and he leaves a legacy of entertainment, generosity and grace.”

the veteran star is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Maj; two children and five grandkids. Our thoughts go out to them.

Watched him & Barbara Eden in I Dream of Jeannie - what a great show back in the day & I loved the original Dallas - he was so ruthless & conniving & certainly loved him in the new Dallas. I seriously doubt they would ever consider recasting his character - Larry Hagman made that character his own. No one could ever do the job of that character they way he did .. it will be interesting to see what that means for John Ross, SueEllen & Bobby Ewing .. RIP Larry Hagman, aka Major Nelson/J.R. Ewing - you gave us all alot of great tv to watch.

I've seen so many articles about his death that seem to have forgotten Major Nelson from I Dream Of Jeannie...

RIP Larry Hagman. You were awesome.

I'm sad, it was a great actor and a legend in the TV history.

I suppose that J.R will die in the second season as well, they'll probably find a trick like they did with Jock when Jim Davis died (30 years ago).
    Crazy how history repeats iself...

All my thoughts go to his family.

They will probably give his character an exit like they did when the actor playing Jock Ewing died. Though I imagine it'll be a massive tribute episode. Recasting him would be an unforgivable travesty, there is NO other J.R. Ewing
