Hawaii Five-0 Review: A Pot Luck Christmas

"Kahu:" Guardian.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone! To finish out 2012 with the Five-0 team, we were treated a bit of a pot-luck episode, as a little bit of everything thrown in....

Chin-ho has an uncle: George Takei supposedly guest-starred this week. But did you catch him? As usual for Hawaii Five-O and its name guest stars, he was in the episode for one scene that lasted about five minutes.

I really hope that Takei is asked to come back for a more substantial contribution. He is such a great actor and you could tell he was having a ball playing the moonshine-wielding uncle.

Chin's Uncle

Kamekona bought a helicopter. Did anyone else think Kamekona’s previous mention of doing island tours was meant to be funny? Apparently someone wants to see the 400-pound Samoan squished into the front seat of a helicopter made for someone nearly half his weight.

Oh wait, that’s right – he spent $170,000 and doesn't have his pilot’s licenses to even fly the silly thing, making it the most expensive paperweight he has ever owned.   Seriously, Mr. Lenkov, let this one go, we don’t need it.

McGarrett is clueless on dates: Who in his/her right mind thinks eating from a cardboard box in a parking lot is considered “some place special?" I know McGarrett doesn't like to be wrong, but honestly man, sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and admit you screwed up.

Okay, to be fair, he sort of did as he recreated one of the most recognizable scenes from An Officer and A Gentlemen when he showed up completely dressed up and carried Catherine away. Hey, Steve, for the record, “I’m sorry” is a helluva lot easier on the wallet.

Catherine kicked some ass. I have to give full credit to Peter Lenkov and his team: this week they had Catherine in situations that made perfect sense and even provided a quick nod to her being on leave for two more days.

Did anyone else wonder if she got combat training from Natasha Romanoff, (a.k.a. Black Widow in the Avengers and Iron Man movies)? She was awesome with the combat against Rizzi, that over-the-shoulder with the legs move that she use to throw him down the stairs was pretty cool.

All in all, it was a fun outing leading into the holiday season. I’m giving the episode 4 "Oh-My"s for a glimpse at George Takei, but docking this a stocking for not using him to a proper extent.

Loved this episode. I adore Steve/Cath. Cath needs to knock Steve over the head at times about how he treats her but the ending was priceless. Steve in a tux is super hot. I love kick ass Cath as well. I'd like to see more screentime between her and Kono. I've really lost interest in Danny. He doesn't seem to have any purpose now and I'm sick of his whining. Chin's uncle was hilarious. Once again would love more Chin but overall a really enjoyable christmas episode.

Catherine is fantastic kicking some a$$. Love how she told Steve about maybe taking her out once and awhile might be nice. Then he comes and gets her in front of everyone with a tux and carry's her away. All I can say it was HOT! I love these two together. The show was a great epi with the relationship Steve & Catherine built with the boy to help solve the case. Hope all of the H5O staff and fans of the show have a fantastic Christmas!

Continue! Danny and Kamekona buying a helicopter was also very funny I notice TC's helicopter from Magnum PI in the background when Danny was dealing with the salesman? how wonderful would it be when Tom Selleck would make a cast appearance and if I may choose as Cath father then Catherine kicked major, major ass. And Alex wearing a tux is always a plus for me he looked so HOT!! Max still dating Sabrina! Happy Holiday's Everyone!

Continue!! What really got to me though, was when Steve said to Cath when they were in HPD that getting to the truth hurt and that the boy will find out sooner or later if the father did commit the crime, how clear it was that Catherine was thinking of the information she was withholding from Steve about Doris. The Christmas dinner cargument was so McDanno snarky but hearts in the right place. I loved that Steve invited Danny and was happy to hear Cath would be there to. A McGarrett Christmas dinner! Chin and the pig juice was funny, Danny and Steve trying not to laugh in front of the suspect and then him apologising to Chin . Found it a bit weird that Chin grabbed the shovel and began to shelves afterall it was a crime scene right! Danny and Kamekona buying a helicopter was also very funny I notice TC's helicopter from Magnum PI in the background when Danny was dealing with the salesman? how wonderful would it be when Tom Selleck would make a cast appearance and if I may choose as Cath father then.

A nice Christmas eppie Cath/Steve, they are showing them more as a couple they are so adorable together. Ohhhh Steve you are so clueless some times how in the world can a breakfast in your car in the parking lot romantisch. But I had a feeling he was teasing Cath we all know Steve can be romantic remember he picked a flower for her, the picnic at the beach in season 1, or how about suggesting a trip to Mumbai, and he made it up to Cath when their weekend was disturbed by an crime case Steve decided to go with Cath on the Enterprise. My feeling is that Steve always had planned to take Catherine out for dinner to celebrate the end of her leave's.
We also saw see a little bit more how the Steve/Cath relationship develop, which has been interesting, Cath even admitted he's her boyfriend. What really got to me though, was when Steve said to Cath when they were in HPD that getting to the truth hurt and that the boy will find out sooner or later if the father did commit the crime, how clear it was that Catherine was thinking of the information she was withholding from Steve about Doris. The story was OK, but loved seeing the Steve-Catherine relationship growing and her fight scene. I, too, questioned why Kono wasn't doing it, but Kono doesn't really seem to relate well to kids and Catherine has a gentleness about her that fit in this episode. @H5O...you did hit it right, and "Magnum" as Catherine's father would be perfect! It was a fun episode with the George, the pig pit, and the helecopter buy! I agree, Danny is getting more sour every episode...lighten up, Danny...you're on the island with your ex and daughter ~ deal with it! Always love Steve in and out of a tux, and seeing the team working together, even if the only have a small part in different episodes! The only thing I would have liked to see on this ep, was everyone rallying around Chin on his first holiday since losing his wife. Great review. Merry Christmas, all!

I agree with Bonnie completely. Too much Steve and Catherine , the plot was weak and Steve taking catherine in his arms like Officer and Gentleman style. I believe he did that to make it to Catherine as she told her earlier she wanted a more romantic get together with him, not eating with hinm at the car as that was not romantic for her but it was for Steve I guess that is the only reason I could think the scene at the end, Steve needed to compensate Cathe with more romantic stuff but Lame lame. I woudl have preferred like a get togehter in Steve house with all of the team for Christmas dinner. I believe the writers or Peter and forcing fans the Steve and Catherine relationship and it is not working. She was better off like S1, ocassionally and doing work as a Navy officer now she works as a cop. I mean is ok Steve have a gf and seeing his romatnic side, but the way the writers or peter are doing that is not working so far. It is failing, no wonder why the ratings are getting low this season. Catherine character is not working as some fans expected. Whatever happen to her job in the Navy? We need to see that at some point, now she is in the island on R & R and working as a cop most of the time or beign there just to do favors for Steve becuae that is the only truth. The plot yesterday was a bit confusing many things at one time. I know H50 has a secure spot in sindication so it is a sure thing we will have a 4th season but the writing needs to be polished in the future episodes otherwise the show will flop. I know each season is different and wwe cant compare seasons but if Season 1 was successful it was for a reason, so I guess the writers and Peter must go back to that season and see why it worked and may apply things on this season.

Dear Santa: I have been good this year and all I want is Alex O'Loughlin and if he could be wearing that Tuxedo that would be great..thank you! :)
I have liked Alex for years and think he is the hottest guy in Hollywood and while he was way to thin for a few months there he is now hotter than ever, did not think that was possible!
This was a great episode! I do like Catherine but I too feel there was a little to much of her. I loved every scene with Alex. I also liked the Chin, Danny and his uncle ( they made a huge deal advertising that George Takei was going to be on but he was on for like 2 seconds). I also liked the Danny and Kamekono helicopter scene it was great!
I guess they wanted a little more light hearted episode before the break. I am sure once the show is back on it will dive back into the Kono, Adam and Michael storlyine.
Oh and I also liked the Chin, Danny and Max scene.

Danno needs to go on IR. For all you non sports fans, this means "Injured Reserve". He never smiles, says anything nice and is ALWAYS bitching about everything. Or maybe put him on an "Alternative Lifesyle Reality Show", he'd make a perfect nagging drag queen. No offense... :)

Excellent Christmas episode! The crime story had just enough tension to it, but without too much gore, if you don't count the exploded pig. I loved George and hope they have him back, because a moonshining uncle has got to suggest a pretty cool story plot. I loved the young boy, as he reminded me of my kid, who is a few years younger, but I already see it coming. I loved seeing McG with the young boy. It was a great insight into our Super Seal. Speaking of super, Cath has been a great addition. The show needed another female and they finally got one right. She's adorable with McG, but she has her own life too. I even love how she does him favors. Last night, we got to see that these two are in deep with one another, no matter how emotionally stilted he is. And I am not surprised he is so dense about women. He was raised by all men. Plus I've read a couple books by Navy Seals and they all say the wife and kids come second to the comrades and the job. Cath would know this. She's cool with it, which makes her all the more attractive to him. And look what he did for her at the end! I pointed that out to my husband, because let's just say McG isn't the only man on this planet dense about what women really want, ok?

Kamekona: Because the seller is a white guy and you both speak the same language.
Danny: You mean English?
Kamekona : Yeah.

I didn't think we would be eating breakfast out of a box in a parking lot.
