Castle Review: Father FIgures and Felonies Comments (Page 2)

This episode was classic Castle case solving, with some Javi thrown in. I liked this episode better than the Espo episode from a season past that revolved around his former partner. Still, I miss the scenes with Castle in the loft. I understand that Alexis is away at college but Martha is still there, and Beckett would be there much of the time now also. I always love the writing where Castle solves the murder through an unrelated comment or event with family in the loft (such as the bow tying in Once Upon A Crime). Personally I think there should be a Caskett physical moment in every episode, even if it is brief (such as Beckett getting the murder call and getting out of Castle's bed).

this episode will categorized as the first filler of season 5. i enjoyed the spotlight on javi but grew tired quickly as he is not one of the main reasons i watch castle. i watch castle for fillion and beckett. their chemistry on the show is unmatched on tv. i miss captain gates because she bringsher own element to the show. i'm not a fan of alexis but i do miss martha. when people get pass the quirkyness of martha they will find she has some wisdom castle and beckett will eventually benefit from. like a good fan, i will await next week's installment.

this episode earned the title of first filler for season 5. i normally rewatch castle all week but will not rewatch this episode. i love esposito as he is really easy on the eyes. i'm not sure i a ready for 43 minutes of backstory and focus on his character. i watch castle because of the chemistry between fillion and katic.

I don't mind Espesito being the center for once but the story was boring and Espesito is really a boring character and predictable. I lost interest in the story after 15 minutes and for the first time I actully considered not to watch the rest. That being said, this season has been really good, much better than season 4. Beckett and Castle being a couple works so much better than I thought.

This was another waste of an episode, like the Swan Song episode. Not an interesting story and, I'm sorry, but I don't want
Esposito and Ryan to be leads, nice as they are, this should be left to Castle and Beckett. No wonder they looked annoyed all the way through the episode. It was a shame that Gates did not appear, but I was glad to see none of the wittering redheads. The show is called 'Castle' and Beckett is the the other main lead, so let them lead. Please let's get back to proper episodes of Castle.

This episode gets consigned to the 'never to be watched again' pile. I love Javi and I don't need 42 minutes of Caskett. But the episode bored me. Javi is a supporting character, not a full lead. As someone else mentioned, this is not an ensemble show. I get exploring the supporting characters but to this extent it was just too much.

    Roll on next week.

I loved this ep, and was so thrilled that Esposito was front and center! He's such a hottie and a great actor, and I loved that he mentored that kid, who really deserved to have someone caring in his life who understands where he is coming from!
The moments with Castle and Beckett were just enough to keep things going...all in all, a great ep! But I do miss Martha and Alexis when we don't get to see them. They're both such fun!

I thought it was great to see Esposito from several different angles. The "look" from Lanie did not go unnoticed!!
You KNOW Castle and Beckett will be front and center in the next episode...relax!! I am okay with it being an "ensemble" for one week!

This is only the second time I was completely bored and frustrated with an episode of "Castle". I couldn't stay awake. I miss Martha and Alexis. Don't miss Gates. I love Detectives Esposito and Ryan but agree with some of the posters that they are "supporting" characters. This proves to me that the magic and allure of the show is really created by Castle and Beckett. Without them, or, with very little of them, the show falls flat. First epp of Season 5 that I will not purchase. BTW, I did not mean to give it four stars. Just two stars for me.

I like Espo and liked the episode. I love Caskett and those are my favorite episodes, but this was a nice change. Every week can't be them being mushy that would run out of steam eventually. We usually have some character centric episodes of the others in each season and it works. As an aside I do think it was the right choice to put them together. It is also right to make it not all smooth, but I don't think breaking them up would be wise.I do miss Martha and Alexis and Gates. If she is never around when is she going to find out about Caskett....when she does that opens up new storytelling possibilites. Hiding it is getting kind of thin. I still love show and I'm not trying to be negative that is just my opinion.

This show was never a "ensemble" cast. It has always had two leads, Kate and Castle with a supportive cast of Ryan, Espo, Lanie, Martha, Alexis and the captain. The episodes usually circle around those two, with the others as supporting players. Espo, while likeable, was never written as a lead character, and that is why this episode came off as boring to me and one that I don't care to watch again.

I missed the "Caskett" parts, but really like learning more of Espo's background..He's one of the more interesting characters in this show.
Didn't miss Gates at all..but I did miss Martha and Alexis..

  13. Sorcha

I enjoyed this episode, only because Espo is one of my favorites! I think there should also be episodes where Laney and Ryan take center stage. Martha and Alexis are always entertaining so I did miss them...maybe they'll be on next week. I did not miss Captain Gates at all.

I happen to think that Javi and Esposito are a highlight on this show, it's like there are all these people and the chemistry is fading fast! I haven't seen an episode where I thought WOW! in a long long time. What's going on here, has this show played itself out?

  15. Jennifer

Overall I thought this episode was boring overall. The only parts that I liked was when Espisoto and his partner were tracking down the killer. I fell asleep towards the tail end! Not a bad ep but not good either. It didn't keep my attention at all.

  16. Denise

Just a terrible episode. I found myself falling asleep and when I get really bored I muted the episode and went back to youtube on my iPad to watch eps of the web-series The Lizzie Bennett Diaries. Yes, a webseries held my attention longer then Castle 5x11.

Supporting characters have the word "supporting" for a reason - to support the leads. I didn't turn into a show called "Castle" for the Esposito show. The same reason I despised season four's ep centered around Kevin Ryan last year.

One of the few occasions I was completely frustrated and uninspired by a Castle episode.

Now if Javi could just learn to start a conversation with something other than "Yo..." he'd be even more interesting as a central character.

This was a first for me -- a completly boring episode of my favoriete show. No spark, no quips, no loft. Fell flat. Just your average procedural cop show.

Think I'll go eat some ice cream........

  19. JS

I thought it was a good episode but not to the level of some of the previous episodes. I think for Castle to continue on for a long time like NCIS they do need to develop all of the characters on the show. We need more on Ryan too along with Esposito. It would be great to see Laney have an episode also.

Thoroughly enjoyed this episode. Showed a different side of Esposito. Good to concentrate on characters other than Caskett, occasionally, and the start of the episode was classic, discussing movie choices. Loved that!

  21. Lurker

I thought it was a nice change of pace, focusing on Esposito rather than Caskett. The scenes with the pickpocket were great and they kept it real and kept me guessing how they were going to get those two to click!
Still, I did miss Alexis and Martha's usual one or two scenes. Ah well, there's always next week.

It was not a extraordinary episode.Recent episodes had been good so i had expected more from this episode but it turned out to be ok episode. The only good part of this episode was Esposito . I loved him.
