Once Upon a Time Review: Is Redemption Out of Reach?

by at . Comments

There are few truly "Selfless, Brave and True" acts in this world - and Storybrooke is no exception, as August returned to Once Upon a Time this week looking for redemption.

Return of August

August never did take his task of looking out for Emma very seriously. That's all I could think when he woke up in a beautiful woman's bed in a beachside bungalow in Phuket, Thailand. Apparently his selfishness had already begun to take its toll.

Of course, everyone thought he was a crazy person because he was the only one who could witness his dilemma. I wonder what the doctor thought when no blood emerged from that leg wound.

What I didn't expect was Neal's fiancee being wrapped up in all of this.

How could August not realize it was a set up when she left that envelope of cash for him to watch? That seemed ridiculousm but I suppose he was just desperate enough to take it without question.

But how did Tamara kill the Dragon? How powerful was that taser? Couldn't his magic combat it?

This episode left me with lots of questions. What's Tamara's connection to the fairy tale world? How did she get involved with Owen and what's their plan for finding his father? And where the heck is Kurt anyway?

Regina had two of my favorite scenes of the night. The first was when she sniped at Mary Margaret in the diner in this Once Upon a Time quote

If I were you I'd try the fish special. It's right up your alley. Blackened Soul. | permalink

Such a perfect reminder of last week's conclusion in "Welcome to Storybrooke." Then Regina remembered Owen and confronted him, warning that despite what he thought, some people can just disappear.

In the end August redeemed himself but ended up as Pinnochio once again. I'm sure some fans will be upset to lose the handsome adult version but he's never been a favorite of mine. Given a choice of the two, I'd rather have Graham back in Storybrooke but I suppose that is not to be.

Mary Margaret contemplated her own chances of redemption and decided the first step was to come clean with David about her visit to Regina and her blackened heart.

I was with David on this one. Where August readily admitted he'd lived a life of selfishness, cowardice and dishonesty, the same can not be said of Snow. She has the heart and soul of a hero. Surely one dark moment can't change that.

So what do you think Tamara's twisted plan is for Storybrooke? Does Regina still have Kurt? And did you miss Rumplestiltskin on this Once Upon a Time?

NOTE: Once Upon a Time is off until April 21. But look who we'll meet when the series returns:

And did you miss Rumplestiltskin on this Once Upon a Time?
Absolutely. Especially because it was such a weak episode. Rumple's dry-witted comments were missed more than ever.

Was the "Dragon" Mushu from Mulan? He was asian and had a similar moustache.
I like that theory, especially because we've already met Mulan :-) It has been obvious Tamara was “her for a while now. [...] throughout the entire season I feel as if everything has been obvious.
Same here :-( After the last very strong episodes, this was a letdown imo, especially because we have to wait a few weeks now. Really disappointing. What I didn't get was how did Tamara kill the Dragon?
I'm hoping she didn't actually kill him but weakened him enough to vanish whereever. However, killing a wooden man with a taser? Setting him on fire would have made sense, but this was ridiculous! And I am SO MAD he was turned into a boy again. I don't miss Graham at all, but I will surely miss adult Pinocchio (as I have all season, damn). And did you miss Rumplestiltskin on this Once Upon a Time?
Absolutely. Especially because it was such a weak episode. Rumple's dry-witted comments were missed more than ever.

I think Tamara may be Pocahontas if she were to be a fairytale character...

Interesting Episode!
-The TRIANGLE! Huh! Tamara is a really good character! Strong and sneaky! The intensity between Emma and Neal was/is pretty strong. And does Tamara have to be from the Forest it would be awesome but I believe she will have a family back story. and her being everywhere she right needs to be.
-August. he was so strong in S1! I really loved him and Emma, but S2 went a different way and there is no place for him. I loved that Marco got a 2nd chance.
-The Snow show! hmmm don't know. I hope they don't over drag it. U've done something wrong, a good thing can't change it but work for it girl. Don't throw a sorrow party. The Slap against Marco was deserved as an instant reaction, but girl GET UP!
-Regina and Owen. I love the 2 of them. nice chemistry. And I really wanna know does she has it her Heart to kill him.
-AND ROBIN HOOD! Can't wait! *_*
I miss a bit of Emma-David connection. Let them bound.

It seems unfair that Gepetto gets to re claim his 28 years with his son unlike everyone else. Also how this episode got 4.4 stars is beyond me. This was one of the worst episodes ever imo, with tasers killing magical beings and people made of wood. But whatever, to each their own.

One of the lures of LOST, which is why I started watching OUAT in the first place, was that we could never predict anything. So many times I thought I was predicting something and I was so off. It has been obvious Tamara was “her for a while now. Along with the fact that something wasn’t right with Tamara. Obviously I didn’t predict all of this episode, but throughout the entire season I feel as if everything has been obvious. The taser thing was painfully laughable. Anyway, the fact that we have to wait four weeks for another episode is ridiculous. Losing steam imo. I would rater watch all of the episodes together and have an April finale. Plus, I know they are from a FTL, but it’s the year 2013.. should we really believe that sheriffs stations don’t have cameras? How did Tamara even know where August was? I don’t like how they just wrote this character out completely. But I’ve heard Eion Bailey was a disaster on set. It seems unfair that Gepetto gets to re claim his 28 years with his son unlike everyone else. Also how this got a 4.4 out of 5 is beyond me... Was one of the worst episodes ever imo, but to each their own.

All of this was going down in Storybrooke... and where was Mr. Gold?
I missed his presence SO MUCH.
Storybrooke isn't Storybrooke when he is gone. when Emma said "i have to take Henry to see his grandfather"
i totally imagined Mr. Gold even though it was probably Charming. :/ also.. WHERE THE HECK IS HOOK? did they just leave him in New York?
please bring him back!

The episode was kinda confusing. I knew when August got turned back and her was a hold again he wouldn't remember anything. I knew Tamara knew about magic all along. The one question I'm wondering is why is finding magic so important to her I mean Owen doesn't care about magic he just wants his dad but her she wants to find magic I very interested in why. Can't wait for the next episode I'm so excited about Robin Hood.

Assuming that you watched the show last week and saw the flashback to Owen as a child, why in your opinion wouldn't Regina remember him? Yeah he is older but they made it clear how she knew it was him. If you didn't see last week's show then nevermind :)
