The Mentalist Review: The Alien Lizard Vibe

by at . Comments

That nurse wasn't kidding. Agent Kirkland definitely has an alien lizard vibe to him. It's as if we spent "Behind the Red Curtain" waiting for him to rip off his mask and show what he was hiding underneath.

Rigsby is Thrilled

Though Jane has obviously had his suspicions of Kirkland, does he now know he's an agent of Red John? And, if so, can he convince Lisbon?

Kirkland injecting the IV almost made me feel sorry for Jason. The poor guy just woke up from a coma to remember being shot by Lorelei and then had his life snuffed out a moment later. He was still so weak and helpless from his injuries there was nothing he could have done to stop it.

Lisbon was the one who confused me in all of this. She seemed more than happy to hand their one link to Red John over to Kirkland. Was she that worried about her career? Was she actually not suspicious of the creepy federal agent? I was at a loss to the reasoning behind her apparent naivete.

But the best part of the entire episode was Jane enlisting LaRoche to help uncover the scheme of the nonexistent investor. It was awesome watching these two complex, quirky characters work together as Jane cajoled him in this The Mentalist quote

Jane: You spend your days chasing paperclip thieves. When do you ever get the chance to nail a killer? | permalink

If LaRoche isn't Red John (and I hope he's not), I'd love to see him help Patrick take him down and I beg the writers to give us more of these two in the future.

Jane seemed right at home at the theater. I'd guess that actors are a bit similar to carnie folk. They're all putting on some sort of a show.

Jane sitting in the back of the theater listening to Deandra sing was just so him. Lisbon walked right by him and never saw him there.

Deandra's story was downright heartbreaking. That her colleagues gossiped about her drinking while she was really suffering with multiple sclerosis was depressing. That she was reunited with her biological daughter only to have her permanently torn away over a silly financial scheme was tragic.

Lastly, the beautiful Grace Van Pelt was back at the CBI and it's been far too long. Now the question becomes: will Rigsby find the guts to make a play for her?

Were you surprised Kirkland took out Jason? Is Lisbon being naive and do you think Jane now knows that Kirkland works for Red John?

Maybe one of the other 4/5 other women Lennon took to Red John was related to Kirkland so he is on a revenge mission as well?

Again I think Kirkland is also hunting Red John, he shows a sign of relief when Lennon says 'no' he doesn't recognize him, maybe meaning he is still undetected by Red John and is not on his who to kill list. Krikland maybe thought Lennon once saw him sneak up on Red John or trying to get to Red John? Someone who can identify him for Red John. But couldn't he get to Lennon long time ago even before he got shot and ask him the same question, and shoot him dead?

@estatica i had the same experience with my first dog. he transformed my household but also raised my empathy level for all others, animal and human. they are amazing. so pure. they don't love the way we do but they have a need for us and it's so satisfying to satisfy a creature who can be satisfied. so many others that we deal with cannot. there's no ambivalence, no subtext. we are emotionally free with them.

@KM I'm really sorry for your loss. I still have a hard time whenever I think of my dog's passing and am still mourning her death. It was only after she came into my life that I truly understood that pets can really become important in our daily lives, as if they were family members. It's good to hear he did not suffer much and that you were there for him when he most needed. *hugs*

Oh KM, my heart goes out to you. Treat yourself tenderly.

oh km. my thoughts are with you. there will always be a place in your heart for him. and soon you'll think more about the good times than this long difficult period. sure he could not have had a nicer mom. love, h.c.

Hi everyone. Nice to read your thoughts. I don't have any to offer. I had to hold my boy while they put him down late last night. Blood vessels were rupturing and he was bleeding internally. He could not get enough oxygenated blood through his frame. Cancer sucks and it lost; it can't take your memories, love, friendship, or courage, it just makes you say good bye. And, death is natural and to be expected. He did not suffer too much. And, I'll get through my grief and missing him. He was the sweetest and most well behaved dog that I have ever known. What a hole he has left in my life! Take care of yourselves.

maybe jane is the only reason red john himself is still in the killing business. i know this has been tossed around before. red john is the umbrella brand under which guys like lennon work. gives them the cachet and muscle they needed to get jobs done for rj or for their own pet projects. also a beautiful logo. and nifty stationery.
jane is red john's pet. no one else is allowed to f*ck with him. once he converts jane or makes him give up for real or gets him to kill on his behalf or gets him to kill himself, red john will hang up his knives and display patrick in a lovely crystal coffin on his coffee table.

maybe they have to keep jane involved so rj thinks he's still the main guy investigating him and doesn't get suspicious that some other big plan against him is going on. a former client, head of a huge cosmetics company (yeah, that one) who attended an agency meeting to present a new campaign to him, surveyed the twenty people quaking before him and said, "i don't see jeanne smith, you don't have a meeting." he wheeled around and walked out the door. jeanne heard about this and called me. i said, jeanne, (sweet and mild) go into wally's office (big agency honcho) and say you'd like him to double your salary. and then, stop talking. that's how jeanne doubled her salary. anyway, it was clear that this was the client's way of giving her a lovely gift. he was a sadistic bastard but he liked jeanne's work. so he got her a raise. rj is the sadistic client. and patrick is jeanne.

continuing with the legend of fake face kirkland. maybe he's just trying to warn jane off. "i'm working my own angle here, and i'm a lot closer to catching the bastard than you are. get out of my flight path, you showboating fool."
