The Mentalist Review: "Redline"

It looks like the honeymoon phase is over for Rigsby and Van Pelt.

In "Redline," we got to see the first fight ever between these two lovebirds. I really like them as a couple, but last night, Rigsby was a complete butt-hole to Van Pelt.

Car Thief?

First, he tells her that he has seniority and if anyone is to leave the team, it would be her - then, he goes in to say marriage is out of the question. Way to kick a girl when she is down!

And as we all predicted - by the end of the episode, Lisbon showed her softer side by telling them she does not know anything about their relationship, so there is nothing for her to report.

My favorite part of the episode was having Jane show Walter his abilities. How cool was the scene with Jane driving blindfold only to know what he was doing by Walter's reactions? Jane is a man of many talents. Who knew one of his talents had to do with crashing the car? We just figured it was an accident.

Not even the rich and beautiful are safe from vicious attacks.

At an ultra elite car dealership, the body of Liselle Douglas is found brutally murdered inside the trunk of a high-end vehicle.

It is up to Jane and the CBI team to investigate and find out who the killer is on next week's all-new episode of The Mentalist, titled "Redline."

The Mentalist Review: "Bleeding Heart"

Last night's episode, "Bleeding Heart," had a different twist on the way it was filmed. Half of the show pretty much consisted of an The Office-type of documentary style.

This approach has become very popular and we think it's either a hit or miss. For us, it was a hit. Why? We liked being able to see a more vulnerable side to the characters. Jane showed his anger, which we hardly ever get to see and we think it lead to having Van Pelt and Rigsby come out about their relationship.

As much as we did like the documentary style for this week's episode, we're happy that it was a one time deal.

Watcha looking at?

We found it quite funny how dense Lisbon is about not knowing that Van Pelt and Rigsby were an item. She is a great dtective that can think quick on her feet, but throw in the big L word and she's completely oblivious to it. It seems as though she has shut down the ability to have those feelings. She is the type of woman that puts 110% of herself into her job, leaving no room for anything else.

With that being said, we still believe that Lisbon will eventually let her guard down when the right man comes along. And we have a feeling that that man is right in front of her face - with his uber sexy wavy blonde hair, great smile, and... well, you get the point!

Sharon Lawrence playing the mayor was perfect. Only our one complaint was that her role wasn't as big as we would have liked to see it. Maybe a cat fight could have broken out between her and Lisbon? Or an anger-based flashback with her assistant? We do give the writers props for the scenes between her and Simon Baker's character. There definitely was a great heat of anger that boiled between them and we loved every minute of it.

Lastly, are we the only ones waiting for more Red John story lines? It's been long enough! Now that we have a two week wait until the next installment of The Mentalist, one can only hope for even just a little something something. Until then, we leave you with a couple of The Mentalist quotes from last night.

Lisbon: So what's the deal, I thought you would be the most comfortable in front of cameras.
Jane: The last time I was in front of cameras things didn't turn out so well. | permalink
Van Pelt:Trying to hide the truth chips away at your spirit. | permalink
Chief Donner: Is he sniffing her?
Lisbon: Yes
Chief Donner: You pay him to sniff people? | permalink

The Mentalist Preview: "Bleeding Heart"

Tomorrow night, fans of The Mentalist can watch Jane and Lisbon investigate the murder of a mayor's aide.

Also, will Rigsby and Van Pelt finally come out of the relationship closet? We kinda hope they keep it in - who doesn't love a little sneaking around?

Check out the official promo for "Bleeding Heart" below and then click on a few episode stills for an early look at scenes from the installment (which guest stars Sharon Lawrence)...

Robin Tunney Previews New Episodes, Cast Member on The Mentalist

As previously reported, Aunjanue Ellis is coming on board The Mentalist at the new California Bureau of Investigation boss.

How will her character go over with Teresa Lisbon? Not too well, says Robin Tunney.

“It’s another woman who’s going to flirt with Simon and have power over me,” Tunney said to TV Guide Magazine. “I don’t know if that’s going to go well. I think there’s going to be some jealousy and some power struggles. We’re all going to have difficulty with it.”

The Mentalist Cast Picture

As you might expect, this isn't all Tunney’s character will be dealing with over the next few weeks.

“The latter part of the season I’ll be grieving Bosco’s death and getting over that,” she said. “There’s more character development this season - so you’ll find out more about where she comes from and why she’s such a pain in the ass.”

A pretty pain in the ass, at least.

As for Red John? That homicidal maniac isn’t going anywhere. Said the actress:

“It’ll be similar to last year where the character pokes his head every fifth episode. We take two steps closer and two steps back…otherwise, the show’s over.”

The Mentalist Review: "Rose-Colored Glasses"

Who doesn't just love a good ole high school reunion?! The Mentalist started off 2010 with a bang. In Rose-Colored Glasses, Jane and Lisbon were off to a 15-year high school reunion to investigate a double murder.

Our take on it? it's hard to believe someone like Willa was able to pull off a double murder. It's funny how it is always the ones that you least suspect. Our money was definitely riding on LJ...oh well, I guess we should stick with our day jobs!

Rigsby Pic

On a side note, let's discuss high school reunions. Everyone has them, but not everyone attends. These days, not only do we have ten and twenty year ones, but we also have five and fifteen. What gives?!

Not to sound like a pessimist or anything, but what really is the point? With Facebook, MySpace, and even Twitter, you can get practically minute by minute updates from the same people you didn't really even like or speak to in high school.

So my question for ya'll is did you go? Would you go? Patrick is right on his money when saying that no one changes. The whole point for reunions is to show off what you have now or what you have become.  Personally, I think it's just a waste of time.

On a happier note, how great was it to see Jane and Lisbon have a moment together? There definitely is something brewing. We hope to see these two shack it up! Also, the small gestures between Van Pelt and Rigsby weren't enough for us! We want some steamy love scenes paaah-leese!

Rigsby playing Mr. Cool was also a highlight for the night. But, no one comes out with the quips as good as our main man Patrick. A few of our favorite The Mentalist quotes are:

Jane: (regarding the fight that broke out between Phil and LJ) Yes, but souls are healed. This was a cathartic experience. | permalink

Jane: Everyone here is trying to show so hard how they changed. | permalink

Jane: Keep it in the dojo Phil. | permalink

The Mentalist Episode Stills from "Rose-Colored Glasses"

After a month off the air, The Mentalist returns next week with a new episode.

On "Rose-Colored Glasses," the team investigates a double homicide that takes place at a high school reunion.

While the CBI unit takes it seriously, of course, its members also find time to dance and drink some punch, as the episode photos below reveal...

We'll recap and review this episode soon after it airs.

In casting news, meanwhile, Aunjanue Ellis will soon come on board as the new head of the team.

Aunjanue Ellis to Stand Up to Patrick Jane, The Mentalist Creator Says

Following the death of Agent Bosco, and the subsequent resignation of Virgil Minelli, there's a major job opening on The Mentalist.

The CBS hit has summoned Aunjanue Ellis to fill it, as the True Blood alum will come aboard the drama this spring as Agent Hightower.

She a strong woman, creator Bruno Heller says, with a husband, a kids... and secrets that will be revealed as time goes on.

Aunjanue Ellis Pic

“She has almost a military style of command, but with surprising subtlety in her tactical behavior,” Heller told TV Guide Magazine. “She comes in with the attitude that Minelli let far too much slide, so we wanted someone very tough who could really stand up to Patrick Jane.”

There is a problem with that goal, Ellis admitted to the publication:

“I’ve had a crush on Simon for a couple years. He’s dashing, charming, and it doesn’t hurt that he has a great smile and hair. I’m going to have to avoid looking him in the eye.”

Aunjanue Ellis: The New Boss on The Mentalist

RIP, Sam Bosco.

Terry Kinney's character was killed off The Mentalist two weeks; but the CBS drama is wasting no time in finding a new character to come on board the show.

Aunjanue Ellis has joined the cast of the hit series in a recurring role. She'll portray the new head of the California Bureau of Investigation, installed following the death of Bosco and the resignation of the unit's supervisor, Virgil Minelli.

Ellis is a veteran of the small screen.

She's most recently been seen on episodes of The Good Wife and True Blood and will premiere on The Mentalist in early 2010.

Terry Kinney Bids Farewell to Sam Bosco, The Mentalist

The Red John rumors became a reality last week.

Following days of talk that a key character on The Mentalist would be killed off the show, Sam Bosco took a bullet on the November 19 episode of the highly-rated hit.

Following his exit from the show, actor Terry Kinney spoke to TV Guide Magazine about his stint on the drama...

On Bosco's admission of love for Lisbon: "I think all this time anyone watching might have thought they were hiding some kind of dirty secret or affair. And really, I think the beauty in the end is that nothing happened between them physically, but there was always an unspoken deep affection and love, which he never had the nerve to tell her."

Bosco and Jane

On upcoming Bosco revelations: "The thing that will probably come out later about this character is what Lisbon might have done on his behalf in regards to police work that perhaps wasn’t completely above board. When our characters were first working together, something happened that we share as a secret."

On his biggest challenge as Bosco: "Pretending that I don’t like Jane is fun because Simon and I actually hit it off very quickly. Both of us have an attention to detail and like to question every single moment. And we always like to be playful."
