The Mentalist Review: The Alien Lizard Vibe

at . Comments

That nurse wasn't kidding. Agent Kirkland definitely has an alien lizard vibe to him. It's as if we spent "Behind the Red Curtain" waiting for him to rip off his mask and show what he was hiding underneath.

Rigsby is Thrilled

Though Jane has obviously had his suspicions of Kirkland, does he now know he's an agent of Red John? And, if so, can he convince Lisbon?

Kirkland injecting the IV almost made me feel sorry for Jason. The poor guy just woke up from a coma to remember being shot by Lorelei and then had his life snuffed out a moment later. He was still so weak and helpless from his injuries there was nothing he could have done to stop it.

Lisbon was the one who confused me in all of this. She seemed more than happy to hand their one link to Red John over to Kirkland. Was she that worried about her career? Was she actually not suspicious of the creepy federal agent? I was at a loss to the reasoning behind her apparent naivete.

But the best part of the entire episode was Jane enlisting LaRoche to help uncover the scheme of the nonexistent investor. It was awesome watching these two complex, quirky characters work together as Jane cajoled him in this The Mentalist quote

Jane: You spend your days chasing paperclip thieves. When do you ever get the chance to nail a killer? | permalink

If LaRoche isn't Red John (and I hope he's not), I'd love to see him help Patrick take him down and I beg the writers to give us more of these two in the future.

Jane seemed right at home at the theater. I'd guess that actors are a bit similar to carnie folk. They're all putting on some sort of a show.

Jane sitting in the back of the theater listening to Deandra sing was just so him. Lisbon walked right by him and never saw him there.

Deandra's story was downright heartbreaking. That her colleagues gossiped about her drinking while she was really suffering with multiple sclerosis was depressing. That she was reunited with her biological daughter only to have her permanently torn away over a silly financial scheme was tragic.

Lastly, the beautiful Grace Van Pelt was back at the CBI and it's been far too long. Now the question becomes: will Rigsby find the guts to make a play for her?

Were you surprised Kirkland took out Jason? Is Lisbon being naive and do you think Jane now knows that Kirkland works for Red John?

@huisclothes.....ewww, now I am feeling all creepy because your theory sounds plausible! The weird stuff he was saying to Lennon as he was injecting air in his tube makes more sense if he is in disguise. Also the grooming of Patrick with the donut dust on his lapel. I know that this show has clues and symbols galore, if we can only identify them. In the first show of this season the lottery was mentioned or shown about four times. The first several times I saw it I didn't even notice it, but then I did and wondered how in heck did I not see that. So we have got to find these clues that are probably very obvious. There is something very strange about Kirkland. He is right under our nose so to speak.

That would be about right, @huisclothes. Okay. I'll just swim through the fatty-looking chunks, I guess those are clams. The episode definitely made a point to focus our attention on the nurse's assessment of Kirkland. Lizard brain implies cold-blooded, maybe predatory, maybe color-shifting, maybe skin-shedding. It makes me think of the primitive part of our own brains often referred to as the reptile brain--all instinct, no rationalizing, no social layer, just need and fulfillment. Can't reason with it. Your life doesn't matter to it. Somebody throw me a crouton.

board has been quiet since my internet was down all day. now my keyboard's ablaze.

sorry. the new kirkland killed lennon in his hospital bed and killed lorelei.

@entwife manhattan clam chowder.

wait. i think my brains just turned to soup. ;)

Thank you Estatica and Mimi for the fan-fiction stories. I really enjoyed them both. The fact that Patrick Jane was brought to life by an excellent actor constantly amazes me. If he wasn't able to show all those emotions, we would not be able to imagine all our theories and scenarios as fans. I zone in on him because I am pretty much mesmerized by Simon Baker. I also appreciate Robin Tunney, but I focus on him. Someone commented on his character in the show The guardian.. Baker was asked how the characters compared and he said the writers really did not give him much room to expand. I think that may be why he and Bruno Heller have such a symbiotic relationship. Heller trusts Baker and lets him fly so to speak. Baker trusts Heller on his judgements and scripts and so, in my opinion, they are very intertwined. I would love to hear their conversations as to developing scenarios and of course Red John. I hope you story tellers will write more chapters. I would love to read more.

hello all. the nurse mentioned alien lizard brains. kirkland asked lennon if he recognizes him. know that we discussed whether kirkland had had recent plastic surgery and we dismissed it since he looked the same, 10 years earlier in the limo. maybe red john or whoever lennon knew as rj has recently had surgery to look like someone specific, kirkland, a honcho at homeland security. the real, good guy kirkland is dead. maybe the stubbly kirkland who helped teresa find patrick was the original. rj or an rj minion replaced him in the time between lorelei leaving jane at the cabin and lorelei reappearing on the scene. the new kirkland shot lennon and killed lorelei.
he is now ensconced at homeland. bertram, who's a good guy, thinks he's working with kirkland, a good guy - but that kirkland is dead. the new kirkland didn't know that the old kirkland had a flirty relationship with lisbon which is why he was such a douche to her. thoughts?

quietest I've ever seen this board, I think. must've wore ourselves out. and still almost two weeks to go before a new episode.
