The Mentalist Review: The Alien Lizard Vibe

at . Comments

That nurse wasn't kidding. Agent Kirkland definitely has an alien lizard vibe to him. It's as if we spent "Behind the Red Curtain" waiting for him to rip off his mask and show what he was hiding underneath.

Rigsby is Thrilled

Though Jane has obviously had his suspicions of Kirkland, does he now know he's an agent of Red John? And, if so, can he convince Lisbon?

Kirkland injecting the IV almost made me feel sorry for Jason. The poor guy just woke up from a coma to remember being shot by Lorelei and then had his life snuffed out a moment later. He was still so weak and helpless from his injuries there was nothing he could have done to stop it.

Lisbon was the one who confused me in all of this. She seemed more than happy to hand their one link to Red John over to Kirkland. Was she that worried about her career? Was she actually not suspicious of the creepy federal agent? I was at a loss to the reasoning behind her apparent naivete.

But the best part of the entire episode was Jane enlisting LaRoche to help uncover the scheme of the nonexistent investor. It was awesome watching these two complex, quirky characters work together as Jane cajoled him in this The Mentalist quote

Jane: You spend your days chasing paperclip thieves. When do you ever get the chance to nail a killer? | permalink

If LaRoche isn't Red John (and I hope he's not), I'd love to see him help Patrick take him down and I beg the writers to give us more of these two in the future.

Jane seemed right at home at the theater. I'd guess that actors are a bit similar to carnie folk. They're all putting on some sort of a show.

Jane sitting in the back of the theater listening to Deandra sing was just so him. Lisbon walked right by him and never saw him there.

Deandra's story was downright heartbreaking. That her colleagues gossiped about her drinking while she was really suffering with multiple sclerosis was depressing. That she was reunited with her biological daughter only to have her permanently torn away over a silly financial scheme was tragic.

Lastly, the beautiful Grace Van Pelt was back at the CBI and it's been far too long. Now the question becomes: will Rigsby find the guts to make a play for her?

Were you surprised Kirkland took out Jason? Is Lisbon being naive and do you think Jane now knows that Kirkland works for Red John?

I understand what you're saying @KM, but I think what a person has a right to feel doesn't really have a lot to do with what is actually felt. rights and beliefs are about thinking, not feeling. both Patrick and Lisbon are bound to have abandonment issues in their past. Even if they have learned to cope very well, times of trauma and certain developmental points in life tend to bring them to the fore, maybe in a bit different way, have to reset, recompartmentalize, deal with it again at a different level or angle. how Lisbon and Jane chose to deal with their aloneness at the time showed them to be tragically out of sync as @huisclothes said in a recent post. Crap.

@km see what you're saying. abandonment may not be the right word. though let down is an acceptable-for-outside-society word and abandonment is, i think, what you feel inside. i guess, on lisbon's part, it's a choice. but if i cared about someone, i would bail them out of jail. couldn't stand them being in there - spiraling downward, a former mental patient, me having tried to find them again and again. on jane's part, he did say to lisbon, "i'll always be there for you." and, on another occasion, "i'm always gonna save you." if he knew she was in a dire situation, i have to believe he'd come running. she's his only anchor. he thought she was his ace in the hole. and he was forsaken. let down might be a bit mild. though jane is a hardy sort. and i am fond of high drama.
and, of course, if lisbon hadn't let him down, he never would have slept with lorelei - something that's had me atwitter all season.

@huisclothes and Watcher,
I can see your point that Jane felt let down by Lisbon in Vegas as she had not posted his bail, but not abandoned. He disappeared 6 months earlier on Lisbon and refused all her efforts to contact and help him. He has no legitimate right to believe himself abandoned. And, it would be truly selfish and self-absorbed for him to claim abandonment. You walk out and you loose the right to say you were abandoned. Jane walked.

They are warming up those buses, ladies.

blow by blow @hc heh heh -%-

awful thing is, Patrick Jane would have figured all this out, too. violation? unimaginable, @huisclothes. because I'm one that thinks he didn't know Lorelei was from RJ until she told him. gak. for those who think he did know, how does this idea fit in?

@entwife no no no, lorelei had to give rj a blow by blow description of what happened!! -%- :D

@entwife -%- old condom. just what i was thinking. stuck in his wallet for nine years.
ever read that john grisham novel where the woman steals the condom and plants the guy's semen in a dead woman so she can frame him for murder?
what if lorelei took patrick's and rj used it to impregnate a woman (or whole bunch) of them so patrick has offspring that are in rj's possession? hideous. the child or children would just have been born.
actually thought that lorelei might show up pregnant when patrick tracked her down.

@Watcher Hopefully Lorelei would have brought her own condoms, because that one in Patrick's wallet would have been so old it probably would have turned to rubber flakes as soon as the air hit it lol!

Lorelei probably had to give him step by step what Patrick did, what he wanted and what he responded to. Absolutely, RJ's psychiatrist would be pursuing a homoerotic line of questioning. it would be malpractice if the shrink couldn't document that he'd at least broached the subject, even if RJ wouldn't discuss it.
