Scandal Review: Sleeping With The Enemy

by at . Comments

Now THAT is how you go on hiatus, TV Fanatics and Gladiators. This episode of Scandal was jam-packed with everything I love about this show... with a side of awesome for good measure.

I have tons to say about tonight's episode and none of it is bad. "Molly, You in Danger, Girl" really was "twisty, crazy, good."

Rosen and Harrison

I don't even know where to begin breaking down this review because my brain is running in about as many directions as the plot twists and potential plot twists in tonight's episode. I have so many questions swirling in my head right now that this review might be comprised entirely of questions.

What is Jake up to, you guys?

Did he plant the attacker in Liv's apartment just in case she turned on the TV at his house and saw the cameras there? So that he could pretend to be her knight in shining armor when we all know he's been watching her for months?

Or was that a really huge coincidence that she decided to show up at his house with cheeseburgers so they could get down to business on the night when she was supposed to be attacked in her home? Did Jake know about this planned attack because he orchestrated it? Anticipated it?

What in the world is going on?

I want to believe that he's not the bad guy he's being painted to be and that he just anticipated that someone would strike at her apartment. But I fear that he knew someone would show up to her apartment because he sent that someone there. That's why he wanted to go over there and cook her dinner. So that their little rendezvous could take place at her house and he would be there to protect her. Or fake protect her.

He had no way of knowing she would show, but her appearing certainly put a wrench in his plans. (And a beautiful woman in his bed, but still.) When she saw the surveillance footage and started questioning who he was, I wanted to believe him when he said he wasn't going to hurt her and he was only trying to protect her. But then I also wanted to shout that she probably wouldn't need protection if he wasn't a crazy sort-of stalker.

Jake knew before now that he was being asked to watch Olivia for personal reasons, but he didn't know just how personal those reasons were until tonight. His face when he saw Fitz lean in and hug her in the hospital was the moment when the Fitz and Olivia relationship really clicked for him. And the look was one of jealousy and rage.

Jake does not at all like the fact that Fitz and Olivia's relationship was or is more than whatever Fitz led him to believe. Watch out, Mr. President!

Another thing about Jake is that I can't decide if he's the mole or if he's covering for the mole. Is Cyrus the mole? Why would he torpedo Fitz' presidency?

Charlie being "baseball cap" and working with Jake and Cyrus is an interesting turn of events. Why did Cyrus need Charlie to look into Jake? Did I miss something? Did Cyrus order Charlie take Huck out independent of Olivia being under surveillance?

There's a missing piece to that puzzle and I can't wait to see what the piece is. Cyrus' involvement certainly has me intrigued. It feels like a return to Amanda Tanner when we thought he was involved, then thought he wasn't, and then suddenly found out that not only was he involved, he was behind her death.

And now Cyrus knows that Fitz killed Verna and he excuses it as one of those things people sometimes do. Like brushing their teeth or paying their taxes. It's no big deal. He just killed a Supreme Court Justice. He absolved Fitz of his crime like he's a confessor and has the power to do such things. Fitz says "I killed Verna" and Cyrus replies "Go be happy."

Cyrus getting relationship advice from Fitz was rich, but it was a nice moment for the two characters.

One thing's for sure, after fighting to keep him, hoping he'll be successful, Cyrus will not be telling James anything about anything this time. James made it clear tonight that he wishes he could go back to the time before he knew about Defiance and pretend that he didn't know what Cyrus is capable of doing. More importantly, James wishes he didn't know what he himself was capable of doing. But he can't pretend.

It seems Mellie's the one who's mastered pretending.

The Mellie/Fitz relationship is one that is so broken and bizarre to me. If what he said tonight was true, that she was brought to the dinner meeting unaware that she was basically being sold to him and Big Jerry like chattel, then my heart kind of breaks for her. I do believe she loved Fitz, then and now.

She's just come to love herself and her own wants and ambition more.

Fitz is miserable in just about every aspect of his life. The look on his face in Olivia's hospital room said as much. Her face, however, said she wasn't interested. At least not now. She's far too confused to be interested right now. She didn't return his "hi." I kept waiting for that, but I'm glad Olivia didn't give it. I want her to be angry at him. Just as angry at him for the way he's treated her as he has been at her over Defiance. Sometimes, like in this case, anger is completely justified.

A couple of other things to point out before wrapping this up:

David Rosen as a sort-of employee of Pope & Associates. LOVE IT.

David: Gladiators in helmets, right?
Harrison: Suits. | permalink

How perfect was that moment? He's standing around listening and then just says "Oh, you know? I have this idea and it's better than all of your ideas. So let's do my thing, okay?" And then they do and it works. Way to go, David!

I also like that David confronted Abby about their mutual feelings for one another and the fact that he knows she really did steal the Cytron card. I liked the two of them together and I think lovers in the work place is murky but also interesting.

Quinn kicked some serious butt tonight! She gave Zeke a verbal beating and saved Huck! She's really hitting her stride as a member of the team lately and I like it.

I do not like that Huck keeps getting put into these torturous situations. Can we please, please send the man on a vacation? Or to therapy? Poor Huck!

What did you think of "Molly, You In Danger, Girl"? What are your theories about Jake? About Cyrus? Watch for the Scandal Round Table and in the meantime, be sure to check out the Scandal quotes page for more Gladiator goodness.

I have to say that I agree with the reviewer and with the other commenters in that OMG what an amazing episode! I was GLUED to the screen and I kept yelling at Olivia "DON'T SLEEP WITH HIM, LIV! HE'S A STALKER!" I just think Jake is BAD NEWS all around, and look at how Olivia got hurt trying to escape from him...he's horrible, and I think she needs to tell someone that this guy has a bunch of cameras in her apartment and that he's a creep. She just CANNOT trust him! He is EVIL! Meanwhile, though, I was thrilled that David joined the team, sort of, and I seriously hope he and Abby get back together, because they're good together. And WHY has no one mentioned that during the whole scene with Fitz and Mellie in the oval office when he was telling her the truth of how they met, that she showed him a face full of compassion and she also looked like she could have cared less if she were sold to him...she wanted to be his wife and be the first lady, and she got what she wanted. I think she's a sociopath, personally, and I am glad she has nannys for her children, but still, that whole scene was played so delicately it was beautiful and tragic

Totally agree with the reviewer, last night was such an awesome show. I can't wait for it to come back and see where everything is going. The good thing though even though I have to wait three weeks and that this show doesn't leave you hanging long for answers. I really want to like Jake but he keeps getting shader and shader. I want to believe his motives are good but I don't know. Cyrus last night scared me. I really hope he is not behind these things. I so love Quinn now. She was my least fave character but she has really stepped it up and I really feel now that she is a part of the team. I agree too that I am tired of seeing Huck go through so many bad things. He needs a break.

Olivia’s face at the end was priceless she was like WHAT IN THE WORLD! She look afraid…very afraid. I mean who do you trust? Fritz, the man who claims to love you but, keeps hurting you over and over again. Or Jake who makes her forget about Fritz but he is a mystery which makes her not sure about him. Man, she sure can pickem…LOL! What about Jake’s face at the end. He looked like he wanted to explode and hit Fritz over the head for touching Liv. Oh, and I really want to see Harrison’s background story. Why is he so loyal to Liv? I can’t wait 3 weeks..booboo LOL!

All I can say about this episode is OMG again and again!!!! Well I didn’t see the connection with Jake, Charlie and Cy so I will watch again. As for the duck tape and stuff well I think Jake killed the fake informer girl and I think he was the one who hit Huck. Charlie, I think is just following Jake for Cy. Who ever took out Huck did so because they know he is Olivia’s protector. Now, I had a problem with the whole “bug search thing only being done on a certain day. I hope I heard that wrong but Huck knows better than to do this on the same day of the month…that wasn’t realistic to his character to me. I love Quinn’s new role and how she and Huck interact. I think David Rosen would be a nice addition to the Gladiators. As for Abby and David’s relationship they need to squash it and make up or move on and go their separate ways. (con't) Charlie has been following Jake for Cyrus: Charlie followed Jake to the storage, then followed him back to his house, then followed him to the hospital after Olivia was hurt. Hmmm….why did Jake call Fitz?
Why was he trying to convince her to go with his cover story – that she was attacked in her apartment? When Fitz got to the hospital I was glad that Olivia didn’t return his “hi. When he leaned in and hugged her I was glad that she didn’t hug him back! She deserves so much better! Jake looked stalker mad when he saw the President hugging her; Olivia looked totally scared and confused. How delicious is this show? Very!!!! I know I may be rambling but that is what this show does to you….it makes you channel your inner Shonda Rhimes!

Of course I must start off like everyone else…OMG! This show always keeps me on the edge of my seat! Even as I watched, some scenes brought up questions….How did Jake find out that Huck swept Olivia’s place on the 3rd Tuesday of every month? How did he time it to get in before Huck? How did the “Mole know that Molly had talked to the Gladiators at the airport? I believe that Fitz is having everybody that he loves watched! (i.e., Olivia and Cyrus) that’s how he knew that Cyrus was staying at a hotel. I love Abby and David – notice Abby’s first thought was David when she found that the mole was still out there. Jake is definitely a bad guy. He may not be THE Bad Guy, but he’s working for him. Where was he going when Olivia showed up at his place? He had duct tape and a gun in his bag. Huck ends up in a crate duct taped - I think it was Jake who knocked Huck out at the storage unit and put him in the crate. Charlie has been following Jake for Cyrus: Charlie followed Jake to the storage, then followed him back to his house, then followed him to the hospital after Olivia was hurt. What is with Olivia and this awful men. I don't trust Jake! Remember he killed a guy and made it look like he killed himself. Wake up people Jake is not a good guy and neither is Fitz. Olivia will not be with either of these loser! At first I was think Cyrus was the mole but I think he is covering so Fitz wont look bad. Cyrus is all about protecting his man. Love Huck and Quinn together; I agree stop beating up Huck already. So what did Jake do remove the video equipment before Huck and Quinn came over and then put it back after they left???? Why did Jake have a bag with duck tape in it and a gun? He did look really surprised when Fitz hugged Olivia at the end. But he threaten Olivia before Fitz came in! Cyrus was really surprised at how much Fitz is watching him. I guess Fitz hasn't noticed that Cyrus has a hit man on his payroll. I love the old school music when the Gladiators go to work! Very cool!

I believe the key is the time line.Jake had a bag with duckt tape etc.and it appeared he may have rented the storage space.I think we were led to believe the cap guy was the culprit who hid Huck in the box.I think Jake is a bad guy and got rid of the witness. He also wears a cap when he's doing his bad things. all in all, things aren't always what they seem.

Remember at the end Jake was telling Liv the "cover story" about the intruder...I think he was going to stop by her place " just in time" to save her from the break in. For whatever reason I haven't a clue, but hopefully we will see soon!

I love this show. I just wish a few of the characters would quit talking
so fast and low. They sound muffled, I have to turn the captions on at times.
It's not my hearing,
