The Mentalist Review: An Odd Little Town

at . Comments

It was a "Red Letter Day" on The Mentalist, as the oddities spread from the town of Percy, California to Jane's attic. The latter had to do with Agent Bob Kirkland.

Jane's Wild West

Lisbon and Kirkland shared the most uncomfortable cup of coffee I've ever witnessed. What's the opposite of chemistry? Repulsion? Teresa looked as though she couldn't flee the scene fast enough.

Just when I thought Kirkland couldn't get any creepier, he did. As Jane and Lisbon mentioned in this The Mentalist quote

Jane: Don't you think it's odd, Homeland Security's fascination with a California serial killer?
Lisbon: Everything about Bob Kirkland is odd. You can add that to the list. | permalink

But it just got odder. It was no surprise that he had his agents break into Jane's attic to see what he had on Red John... but what was his purpose? Was it to let Red John know what Jane had on him? Is he actually Red John and just admiring Jane's handiwork? I'm really not sure.

Percy, California turned out to be just as odd as the man who owned it. When Hollis snarled at his son that he should have known Julianna was his sister, I could completely understand why he snapped and killed him. What a horrible nightmare.

The best part of the Wild West setting was that it allowed Jane to sharpen his skills and relive a bit of his carnie days. I could only laugh when Jane told Kevin that his magic sucked eggs. It seemed so odd to hear those words come out of the normally more eloquent Patrick Jane.

Another highlight was allowing Rigsby to use his arson skills to crack the case of the cabin fires. It's always nice to be reminded that there is a smart investigator behind that Wayne Rigsby blank stare.

Even better was having Cho call out Rigsby for being dense when it came to Grace.

You're still in love with her but instead of telling her you bought her a plant. | permalink

That about summed it up. Of course the moment Wayne got the nerve to tell her how he felt I knew what was coming. The new boyfriend walked off the elevator.

Do you think Duncan will be another Red John minion? Perhaps the next Jack the Ripper? Married with a secret family? Knowing Grace's luck with love it could be all of the above.

Does Wayne have a chance with Grace? What's your theory on Kirkland's end game? And what will Patrick do now that he knows his fortress of solitude has been compromised? Tell me your theories before the next The Mentalist.

Yes @Watcher, Red John would lead his zombie army and Kristina would be his right hand girl because she's only a pretend zombie, with her hair streaked properly to get the full Bride of RJ effect (was that @huisclothes idea?) But eventually all the other zombies would notice there's a little brain buzz going on under Kristina's electric do and they would take her down for a charlatan, once somebody told then what that word meant of course.

@Entwife- sadly, I have no artistic ability. I'm afraid I will be no help on your comic. And what a comic it would be! I've always said they are turning RJ into a comic book villain. LOL!

@bonaduz - it's not our fault. If they packed more substance into the last episode, we would still be analyzing that. But the wild west theme doesn't lend itself to thousands of comments, so we're forced to come up with other topics ;-)

resistant to hypnotism, can't read a pulse --hilarious @Watcher. this story really needs an illustrator, needs to be a comic.

@Entwife - Yes, I've heard zombies are very resistant to hypnotism. And they have no pulse, so he couldn't even get a good read on them. Your new fanfiction is half've even got their costumes worked out! You really have to write it now ;-)

Oh yeah @Watcher, Jane would look positively swashbuckling with a samurai sword. He'd have to have a weapon because he wouldn't be able to mentalize a zombie, there's nothing there to mentalize lol. Lisbon could have one of those canon size pistols like Clint Eastwood, on blast-- Gallagher watermelon city! Jane could have his RZS emblem tastefully monogrammed on his breast pocket, wear some nice italian boots. Lisbon has a badge on her belt and those high stomping heels she's taking to wearing lately. :-)

ooookaay, now we're really going coockoo!

@Entwife - I didn't see your zombie movie, but on The Walking Dead you have to injure the guns, bows & arrows and swords are popular weapons. Or you can just beat the head in with a shovel or heavy object, but that's not as elegant. For Jane I would recommend a katana sword, like Michonne uses on the show. He doesn't seem to like guns. And I doubt he would have the accuracy needed for archery. So a samurai sword is his best bet. Lisbon has a wider range of choices, since she is more accomplished with weapons.

Jane could wear a deep red 3-piece suit, very rich and tailored nicely to suit him. But not his big brown clodhoppers, haha. Lisbon could wear deep red leather and carry the ZS emblem on her belt. And what weapons in her hand? How do you kill zombies?

@bonaduz yes he was in a movie with zombies Land of Dead 2005. So he's into it!!LOL
