Blue Bloods Review: A Life Without Hope

by at . Comments

"The Bitter End"was just that. Bitter, as we had to watch a good Officer who had escaped the projects be gunned down in them anyway.

But it started with a suicide. How horrifying that a mother could be that hopeless for her son's future that she'd rather jump off a rooftop with him than try to find a way to escape. Noni's parents had been killed. Her baby's father was a drug dealer who would never leave the gang and would drag her son down the same path.

Attempted Suicide Call

Noni's despair was so great that she saw no other way out than death.

But how do you fight generations of hatred and fear.  No one had that answer but Frank was right, that doesn't mean you stop trying.

I understood the DA's unofficial policy just as Erin did. Without a victim's testimony the odds of a conviction were weak and as usual, funds are always limited.

But Frank was equally right. That policy meant that poor people who lived in unsafe neighborhoods would have to risk their lives and those of their families to have their day in court. The policy's intent may not have been discriminatory but its reality certainly was.

As Frank was quick to point out in this Blue Bloods quote...

Frank: Doing the right thing may be hard but it sure as hell isn't complicated. | permalink

I appreciated that Frank tried to take Erin's advice and use a little more honey than vinegar to persuade the mayor to see his point of view.  I was extremely disappointed when Grace didn't come through for him.  There's could have been a beautiful friendship.

In the end it took the death of a good cop to bring about change. I had really grown to like Vinny Cruz and he made a good partner for Jamie. They were different enough to keep things interesting but respected one another to where they worked well together.  He will be missed.

At the end of this episode were the words To Be Continued, which can only mean this story is far from over.

As we head into the Blue Bloods season 3 finale, I think we need to be ready for just about anything.

I love Blue Bloods and was totally unprepared for Vinny's death. I really enjoyed his character. This episode was relevant to the times. The police always seem to be blamed but the local people who will never speak up are also responsible. I know they are intimidated by the thugs who terrorize their neighborhood but whenever there is a murder or even a thug killed they always yell police brutality. There will have to be a big change of mindset before things will change. Tom Selleck and the rest of the cast gave superb performances as usual.

I agree with all that this is a great show about the power of family and the interplay between good and evil. I certainly enjoy Danny Walberg in every episode because he's so badass that his facial expressions alone are enough to really scare the criminals. I loved it when they put the gang on notice that since one of their own was dead, the gangs days were numbered...go get em! Anyway, I also love Len Cariou as grandad, because his acting is so effortless and sublime, I just want to hug the man at the end of each episode. He and Tom S play well off of one another. This episode, though dark, was still very well done.

Great show and a great episode. Very dark and ominous but great nevertheless. The previews that show gunmen shooting at Frank and the mayor make me nervous as I would hate to see the show jumpr the shark but we will have to wait and see. Really happy that this great show is renewed for another season.

This show is so fantastic. I was not a fan of Vinny when he was first on, but I liked him after awhile and really did not want to see him die. That was a sad moment.
I am glad we got more of Jamie though.
I did enjoy the ending when Danny and his partner and tons of cop cars went to the gang leader.
I really hope we do not lose any more good guys in the finale.

Love the drama, but the family time and the interplay of their personalities and jobs makes for great TV. Too bad it is not scheduled on a night where it gets a larger viewership. That said, I never miss it...must be I have no social life!!

I do love this show. I believe that more shows should include family moments like the ones shown in Blue Bloods.

Very intense episode....I missed the usual moments of humor but I understand why they weren't part of the script. I hate "to be continued" but this particular story arc needs it. Good performances, especially TS.
