Grey's Anatomy Review: A Little Love Spell

at . Comments

Grey's Anatomy seemed to dig deep into the relationship turmoil as much as it dug into the bloody surgeries this week on "Do You Believe in Magic."

And yet, while there were some interesting things that took place, I wouldn't say this was the most magical of episodes. I mean, the episode started off with a girl cut in half, although I guess you could argue that seeing Patrick Dempsey in a tiara could certainly make up for the messy cases that took place.

A Cal-Zona Image

I couldn't help but laugh at the magician love triangle and chainsaw box dilemma that got things going. It seemed goofy and over the top, and I instantly thought of Arrested Development when the magician corrected his partner that it's an illusion, not a trick. The same could be said for not revealing the secrets. I'm surprised no doves were involved.

Rather it was the Arizona and new doctor Lauren flirting that proved fun and interesting. Just the demeanor from Arizona's almost shyness to Lauren's smiles and comment about how there's only one Arizona provided something that was entertaining to watch. It's certainly a different dynamic for the Arizona and Callie relationship, especially since the two have gotten past the leg problem that was slowly tearing them apart.

I was also glad that Arizona explained that she was married, rather than trying to hide it, so it didn't take away from her love to Callie. That said, I'm curious as to how the possible love triangle might play out. If it even turns out to be one at all.

As for a love triangle I'm less interested in, I'm not as on board with Jackson and the intern. Sure, they've had some problems with him forgetting her and then they made up, but there still seems to be something strong between Jackson and April. I really feel like no matter how hard they fight it, those two are going to end up back together. I guess it's just a question of how long the writers want to keep them apart.

Which is interesting to think about Owen and Cristina in whether they can last as a couple. They seem to be the strongest and are entertaining to watch, but I can't help but feel like we haven't seen the last major bump in the road.

Of course, with his bonding with Ethan, followed by dealing with Ethan taking his grandmother's sleeping pills, I keep wondering if Owen is going to be placed in a position to adopt. Is that a possibility the show might take and if so would it cause a huge rift in his relationship? The season has certainly been playing up his desire for children, so would he actually pick Cristina in the end?

It was rather interesting to see Bailey locked up in the lab room furiously testing herself over and over. She still feels majorly responsible for the deaths of her patients, and Bailey being Bailey, means doing everything independently.

I'm glad Ben finally showed up to be there for her, as he was obviously the one that would get her to open the doors. I couldn't help but think that every time someone came to the door to speak with her it felt like listening to someone leaving a voicemail. Definitely a unique silent treatment given towards the other doctors.

Alex was sort of in a similar situation of trying to avoid people, but pretty much just Jo. It was like everywhere he turned, she was there. It must have been tremendously awkward for him, especially because he can't seem to get over her.

Yet, it was a major "whoa" moment in the last scene when Alex got all grumpy at her and Jo turned her head to reveal some physical abuse to her face. I was not expecting that at all.

Now was that her boyfriend who did that? What the heck happened? I wonder how this will play into potentially pushing those two closer together, but I'd rather see them come together because they want to, not because she needs saving or protection. I wouldn't doubt if Alex got into a physical altercation with Jo's boyfriend.

This was an OK episode of Grey's Anatomy that did provide some good moments and has me wondering with the home stretch of episodes, where all the relationships are going to end up. Will they be a magical and happily ever after ending or turn out to be more like a trick gone horribly wrong?

The best scenes for me were without the interns. I find it annoying that Jo was beat up in the end. Shondra is just forcing this with Alex and her, she developed an unbelievable character to fit with Alex. Who, c'mon, lived in her car, acts ridiculous, and now is dating a hot doctor who hits her, also Alex also fell in love so quickly. Izzie was believable, why couldn't Shondra just leave him single? Its all so stretched to me. The writing is poor. I watch still for the originals, just disappointed bc Alex was one of my favorites.

it'll be really irritating if arizona cheats. 21 episodes of them being there for each other through everything and then one flirty doctor comes in and ruins the lives of 3 people...i find that stupid. arizona pleading for callie not to give up on her and then one doctor finds her interesting and that's it. dumb. callie has already been the joke of the hospital with her relationships, enough is enough...though i love the episode where cristina cuts her hair haha. "yeah i can't believe you just let me do that". but seriously, no cheating.

The ppl that produces the show must not ever watch it! I watch the whole show and as usual all I heard was the music! I cannot heard anything the actors are saying! Please cut the Music Down! I have watched the show from the start, but the last several years all I am hearing is music playing. PLEASE PLEASE Cut The Music Down.

I love Grey's and I've been hanging in there but really, this episode was allot of airtime spent on boring scenes that the fans don't care about. Jackson and Owen cannot carry this show. Owen is a terrible Chief. Make the Chief, the Chief again. Jackson is out of his element as the head of the Board, it's not believable. Not enough Derek scenes, although the tea party was so damn cute. I bet he had many tea parties with his daughter. Shonda still doesn't get it. The fans love the originals, they are who we want to see.

I am so excited with the possible drama that's coming to the Calzona arc... their story may it be tragic, bailing,or love triangle keeps me sooo interested. BUT PLEASE SHONDA.......NO CHEATING PLEASE!!!!!! it already happen to Callie once (still remember the George and Izzie thing?!!) make it unique this time...just NO MORE CHEATING AND DEATH PLEASE!!!

That ep just proved how useless Owen is as Chief. Seeing as the hospital is able to manage while he stalks the kid. Is there no ending to this tired s/l? It's been 2 and a half seasons already, come on! The flirty new doc is like 3 seasons too late. I wanted this s/l for Arizona while Mark was around to show her that she has options other than constantly putting up with the Mallie boundary-free friendship and for Callie to fight for Arizona. Alas they got over that (in the most pathetic contrived way). I can enjoy it if Shonda won't go the cheating route. If she does then what the heck was the point of their s/l the entire season? For Callie to suffer and help Arizona to get over her predicament just so she can cheat on Callie? Not to mention it's another complete character assassination for Arizona. She's already been written as a bailer (?), a doormat and a stepford wife. I don't want to add cheater on the list.

That was one of the best episodes.

That Lauryn chick was coming at Arizona so hard, I was DAMN. I know Arizona is flattered for the attention, BUT don't do anything stupid. You got a wife and a child at home. I was so glad her that she was married to that hot azz ortho surgeon she introduced her to earlier! Old girl, still would not stop flirting, told her she KNOWS there is just one Arizona Robbins and she know about her leg and it's still ON if you want it! Callie is going to have to break this chick down! :) Damn, Shonda! Arizona and Callie has been through enough already!!!!!!

I so loved the last scene of last night show with Derek and Mer and Zola. That was too cute. I loved Derek asking if the they baby going to love Zola or steal her toys and stuff. Love them. I was so glad Ben was there at the end for Bailey. When I kept thinking who could help save her, he never came to mind but so glad it was him.

This was a pretty good episode. I was angry and tired of Bailey shutting them all out but when we saw that she is obssessed with testing herself and carries all that guilt around I felt bad for her. I hope she gets better soon.
I love Patrick Dempsey and seeing him playing tea party was super sweet.
I dislike the intern that Jackson is seeing.
It looks like Alex was right and Jason is a douche!
I have always like Owen and Christina but I think they will be over for good by seasons end.
Hilarie Burton's characted was crazy flirting with Arizona and was not subtle about it, I hope that Arizona does not do anything stupid.
