So... did it live up your expectations?
The Agents of SHIELD premiere garnered super ratings for ABC, while receiving mostly positive feedback from fans and critics.
In our first edition of a SHIELD Round Table, TV Fanatic staff members Jim Garner, Kate Brooks and Christine Orlando are joined by Ellyssa from ShieldTV.net to breakdown all aspects of Level 7 and more. Gather around and join them now...
What was your favorite scene from the pilot?
Jim: There were so many good ones, but I have to go with the last scene. Coulson and Skye discussing that they could do some good. I felt like we were getting foreshadowing of something that will become very big.
Christine: There were a lot of fun scenes but I think I enjoyed the introduction of Melinda May the most. I loved the interaction between her and Coulson. He quipped that all she needed to add was a moat and if her office was actually where they made red tape and she didn't even have to say anything for me to imagine the smart-ass responses in her head.
Ellyssa: Agent Coulson turning the tables on Agent Ward and injecting him with the "truth drug" as a way of earning Skye's trust was brilliant. It was not only pleasantly unexpected but a great indicator of the way humor can be blended well within a dramatic show, it's moments like this that will set Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. apart.
Kate: The last scene between Mike and Coulson. I love being able to see this side of Phil and get more character than we've ever been able to see in the films. And the fact that Ward didn't kill Mike at the end. I'm already hooked.
Which Agent do you want to learn more about the most and why?
Jim: I'm most curious about Skye and her apparent lack of last name. I realize she removed herself from all the government databases, but how does she have a cell phone or debit card without a last name? Color me curious.
Christine: Coulson, if for no other reason than Clark Gregg is completely awesome. But I want to know how he got Lola (who I loved even without the hovercraft capabilities), where he goes home to, and what really happened to him in "Tahiti."
Ellyssa: Agent May clearly has a significant back story. We see how hard core she is, how skilled not only as a pilot but also as a fighter. It takes something enormous and out of the ordinary for someone with that level of training to want work as a paper-pusher rather than being in the thick of action out in the field.
Kate: Honestly, I am intrigued by all characters. It's too early for me to tell what character exactly I want to know more about but I can see myself being a huge fan of Fitz and Simmons.
If Coulson wasn't recovering in Tahiti, what do you think really happened?
Jim: I'm going with the tried and truth Marvel recovery method: cloning. I suspect that this Phil Coulson is a clone of the original. Probably done as some experiment and his first memories are of being in Tahiti.
Christine: Oh Jim, I love that idea and it's so much better than anything I could come up with. At least whoever toyed with his brain gave him a lovely false memory. Who doesn't want to go to Tahiti?
Ellyssa: I don't even want to spend too much time speculating on this, I'm looking forward to the story unfolding as I'm sure it will over the coming weeks and months.
Kate: Oh my gosh. It's too soon to make this prediction, but if it involves more Maria Hill then I'm definitely okay with it.
What was you're favorite quote from the episode.
Jim: Having just watched all of "Heroes of Cosplay" on Syfy, Ward's comment about Skye cracked me up: "She's groupy, all the hacking into SHIELD, tracking powers. She might as well be one of those sweaty Cosplay characters crowding around Stark tower."
Christine: Agent Ward's "I don't think Thor is technically a god," followed by Agent Hill's "You haven't been near his arms."
Ellyssa: Agent Ward: "Yes, it did hurt a little bit, but I always try to mask my pain in front of beautiful women because i think it makes me seem more masculine.... my god that works fast!"
Kate: Simmons: "I'm not Hermione, I can't create instant paralysis with that." The only thing the Simmons quote was missing was "Muggle" at the end.
If any of the Avengers could guest star, who would you want to see first?
Jim: The easy choice would be Tony Stark, he deals in the tech they need to get the job done. However, I personally would like to see Black Widow be tied into May's background and her make an appearance in relation to it. Since she is not truly super powered, it would allow for a little cross over without too much fuss.
Christine: I'm torn. I really like Black Widow and she'd fit in well here but I'd also like to see them deal with the Hulk, because that's just kind of scary and could be really funny at the same time.
Ellyssa: Hawkeye gets my vote here. It seems we didn't have much chance to get to know the "real" Hawkeye in The Avengers and it woudln't be a stretch to find a worthy role for the character.
Kate: I agree with you Jim, definitely Black Widow. I feel that Romanov is key player in SHIELD. I hope she can make an appearance thats more than just a reference.
