Mark Harmon on Cote de Pablo Exit: It's Our Job to Stay #1

at . Comments

Mark Harmon commented on Cote de Pablo's exit from NCIS last night, and said it's his job - and the show's - to stay on top regardless of changes and challenges that are thrown its way.

Harmon said on Thursday night’s Arsenio Hall Show, “We’ve had a lot of changes, and we’ve managed to get better with the changes both in front of the camera and behind the camera."

“We have another change this year, with Cote leaving,” he added, “and it’s up to this highly professional group to use that as a springboard, to improve and stay No. 1 [in total viewers].”

Gibbs and Ziva on the Case

Just this week, NCIS showrunner Gary Glasberg shared an open letter to fans regarding the issue, reiterating his shock in de Pablo’s decision to leave yet promising "amazing resolution."

He promises a "pretty damn heart-wrenching" storyline from a show that's had its fair share of them, and tells the NCIS faithful to "prepare yourselves for a moment in television history"

"Images that will end up in the archives,” Glasberg wrote. “I couldn’t be happier with how my NCIS family stepped up and did some of the most emotional work we’ve ever done.”

A bold statement, to be sure, but regardless of how you feel about Ziva leaving, does anyone doubt that he'll back that up when NCIS Season 11 kicks off in less than two weeks?

How do you think Ziva could/should be written off? Discuss below ...

I will say this NCIS will be a fun show again in a way

Love Ziva, Cote portrays her as a strong, sexy, woman who is not threatening to others. She is lovable, funny, smart, and her accent and manner of speaking is such a refreshing delight. Don't kill her off, but I wish we weren't in the dark about why she is leaving. Perhaps down the line she will change her mind.

they tried and tried and money does not seem to be the issue here; for whatever her personal reasons - put the money issue out of your head. IF she is adamant about not doing any 'guest' shots on the show, then they write her off - don't have to kill her off, just a no-return show.
AND if they bring back that Activia Queen (to be a romantic interest for Gibbs? Hardly!!!), that will be the show(s) I won't watch; the only ones I didn't want last season. Will NOT look at her, for any reason. She has the sex appeal of a mannequin that no one has decided whether to dress it as a guy or a girl. ARGH!!!

Please don't let ziva die. Have Ziva run away from all of the chaos.

Gary Glasberg said Ziva's not going to die.

I love NCIS, but am having a really hard time getting past her leaving!! She has developed the character into a strong, sensitive, smart woman. I only wish her well, and look forward to seeing her in other work. One way to transition her exit is to have her make spot appearances for the rest of the year (hopefully forever linked to Tony somehow) while we get our balance back. The character of Ziva should not die, it gives us hope she may return someday.

I don't think they will kill her - I think she will go back to Israel for awhile then be the surprise and come back to NCIS. She could be pregnant and they couldn't write it into the script. Who knows - just a thought.

It will sad that she is leaving. Her chemistry with Tony is awesome but if this is what she wants so be it. JUST DON'T KILL HER OFF. People sometimes change there mind down the road.

I just hope they don't have her die on the show. Not everyone that leaves the show has to die! I want to feel sad that she will no longer be there but happy that it is her decision to move on to whatever.

NCIS Quotes

McGee: All right. Well you should probably know that Abby and I used to date?
Bishop: Ew. Like, each other?
McGee: Yeah.
Bishop: Wait - isn't that a violation of rule 12, never date a....
McGee: It was a long time ago. After we'd broken up, one night I went to her lab. Found a scribbled piece paper; a list. Potential boyfriends had to fulfill certain conditions by a pre-arranged date or else, goodbye.
Bishop: Such as.
McGee: Things started off relatively normal: opening the door for her, flowers, putting the seat down. Then around number 8, it gets uh...
Bishop: What?
McGee: Does she know you have these?
Bishop: Does she know you have these?
McGee: Yeah she wasn't happy when she found out.
Bishop: These are all very specific.
McGee: Yeah.
Bishop: These ideas apply to you?
McGee: No those rules weren't in place when we were together. At least I don't think so.
Bishop: What's with the two month cutoff? Abby's sabotaging herself. I've seen stuff like this before. We have to talk to her.

Tony: One other question, I know you're an expert in English history. And I was just wondering, have you ever heard of Archibald Drummond, the 17th Earl of Trent?
Ducky: The Earl of Trent. No, I can't say I have. Why?
Tony: I was just wondering. Thanks.
