Grey's Anatomy Review: Every Connection Matters

by at . Comments

I just love Thursday nights, don’t you?! Thanks to favorite shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, I can always count on my trusty DVR to be jam-packed.

"Map of You" featured McDreamy at his finest, as he focused on a brain-mapping project and how important connections are. I absolutely adored that science and the medical cases were at the forefront of this installment. Also, I found it particularly awesome that he was the one narrating the open and close of the episode this time around.

Enjoying the Work

Thanks to a broken mug, glue was used in both Derek’s and Cristina’s cases. Unfortunately, Derek’s patient did not survive. I still have to give major props to Derek’s patient for being fearless and wanting a shot at life regardless of him knowing the operation could kill him. As for Cristina, she was successful with her groundbreaking surgery by using glue on a heart tumor.

Meanwhile, we finally saw Shane dealing and struggling with his guilt over what happened to Heather. I know this is something many of you – including myself – have been waiting for since the season premiere. By the way, I hated the way he talked to Derek and I don’t think he’ll be able to keep his secret much longer. It’s clearly going to eat him alive.

It was nice to see Richard being proactive by cleverly using himself as a study tool. There’s nothing quite like the drama of the doctors’ personal lives, but something I’ve missed seeing is the actual learning process for the interns. Since Richard’s willing to take on a teaching role, it means he’s open to getting better and we’ll hopefully see him in a more positive light.

Elsewhere: Emma, Owen’s new girlfriend and also an attending at Seattle Presbyterian, was invited to observe a surgery. Though some would be quick to assume Cristina wouldn’t be cool with take your girlfriend to work day, she appeared to be just fine at first. However, she eventually tried to confide in Meredith that she was bothered Owen failed to mention their history together.

Meredith, who was acting noticeably different, was busy contemplating whether or not she should continue her mother’s research. She was a bit standoffish toward Cristina throughout the entire hour. Who could blame her, though? How could we forget that intense fight the two besties had just last week?

While Cristina got to do most of the talking during their blowout, it was Meredith’s turn this time around. She claimed that Cristina pushed her aside when she needed her the most. Mer also stated that she had always been there for her. Lastly, Mer claimed Cristina simply didn’t have time for people who want things that she doesn’t want. Ouch!

Are we going to see more hurtful words exchanged between this pair from now on? Are they growing apart? Whatever is happening, it doesn’t seem like there’ll be a resolution anytime soon.

At least Meredith and Derek now have a game plan. While Derek is going to take a step back from surgery and focus more on research, Meredith’s going to be able to shine. She still doesn’t want to become her mother, but she wants to have the best of both worlds – her career and her family. Basically, she wants to prove Cristina wrong and show that she can do it all.

Other thoughts:

  • Sandra Oh’s on her way out. Cristina was the one who decided that she and Owen should break up. Do you think Owen is honestly ready to move on? How would you like to see Crowen end up?
  • So, Arizona and Leah made out?! Seriously, Arizona has been making poor choices left and right. If and when Callie finds out, she can kiss her chances of a reconciliation goodbye.
  • How many of you were excited to see Alex’s storyline with his dad continue? You can bet my hand is raised. Poor Alex, though! I only wished that he could let Jo in on what happened with his father; however, I also get this is Alex we’re talking about. I’m ready to see more!
  • Did I miss something? Where was Jackson?
  • Don’t forget to check out the Grey’s Anatomy quotes.
  • Be sure to return early next week to chime in on our Grey’s Anatomy Round Table.

Overall, this was a stellar episode. Shonda and company really know how to keep us coming back every Thursday night. See you next week!

I 4got to comment on Calazona. Arizona seems to be continuing to sink lower and lower in her personal life.
Callie, atta girl! So happy to see her coping with this marriage breakup better than when George cheated. She's moving on with her career and not desperate to meet someone else straight away. :))
I forgot that Alex and Mer both found out their dads had another famliy and forgot them. Alex's dad definatelty figured out Alex is his son though. More unhappy Alex :((

Meredith and Cristina - this is just a way of showing how their paths are about to separate. I have a best friend whom I have known since I was 4 - we went through all of our school years together and over the years we've been closer at some times than at others. We're still the same people with the same care and love for one another, despite the poles apart direction our lives took. So, I think it's just preparing us for Cristina leaving - they'll be fine. I am curious as to how Cristina and Owen end up as they really are soul mates. I think we might end up a little heartbroken over this one.. One thing that really bugged me about this episode and that was how immature some of the interns seemed. Whilst our fave original interns were insecure, neurotic and made some shocking mistakes, they were clever and ambitious people. These interns came across in this episode as really immature. Leah? She was acting like a 16 year old. Not even Meredith was that desperate in the early days. Just saying.

I love Callie and Arizona, but I am actually really enjoying seeing Callie on her own. I actually thought in this episode, I am OK if they don't get back together. I would love to see how Callie moves on from this and where she ends up. Loving it. Also, we don't really know anything about Arizona without Callie, so that's cool too. I'm enjoying seeing her struggle with all of this. I think it's bit far fetched for Owen to have a steady date already. Yes, Critina asked him to move on, but he's so obviously not over her (nor she him) how is it possible that he is even able to show any interest at all in someone else. This just seems out of play with his character. After all these years, I still enjoy the MerDer scenes. How brilliant to see Derek have Callie scenes - bringing their surgery disciplines together is awesome! I agree with some of the other posters - get a nanny/housekeeper. It doesn't make you a bad parent, it makes you a fortunate family. Meredith and Cristina - this is just a way of showing how their paths are about to separate. deliane ITA with your final statement!
I keep thinking MerDer, employ a housekeeper! But bravo Der for being a modern dad and stepping up to let Mer do her thing. I think it was time to see Der doing more than brain surgeries. Lovely to see so much of Zola.
I'm glad Mer got to give her perspective of Cris' 'you can't be a mom and a surgeon'speech.Cris had a critique from Mer this time, perhaps it'll clear up things between MerCris now

Alex needs to grow up. So your dad didnt feed you strawberries or take you to the zoo. Get over it. The rest of this episode was boring.

I find it interesting that in your review you only mention Derek. That patient belonged to Derek and Callie. Callie was the one who asked him to be a part of the trial. Brain-mapping was mainly her idea to help Az. Just saying give my ortho hottie her credit. That trial is msking strides because of both of them. And im glad she decided to move forward with the research to help others.
Christina telling Emma she was the ex wife was abit crazy. She wanted Owen to move on. Now that he has, she wants to make her presence known. Like Meredith said she doesnt give time to anyone that isnt interested in the same things she is.

This episode was brilliant as always. I loved seeing the residents in the resident locker room, I missed it so much. But the best storyline had to be the build up of Alex and his dad, just when Alex thought that he had changed and he probably would have told his dad his name, the guy goes and pulls out a picture of his new family like he just replaced Alex and his siblings and he wasn't even talking about Alex.
I think that Alex will tell Jo about what happened. And I think that his dad might have figured it out on who Alex is, I mean the way he looked at Alex from the floor.

Sorry I meant Tran.
