The Vampire Diaries: Casting for Gay College Student

by at .  Updated at . Comments

The Vampire Diaries is set to introduce its first gay character.

A casting notice sent out this week by The CW outlined a search for a new Whitemore student named Luke.

Look for him to be good-looking and sarcastic and to grow close to Caroline, but not to become any kind of love interest for that blonde bombshell of a character.

As reported by E! News, Luke will also have a sister on campus, someone he will go to extreme lengths to protect.

Everyone keeps going on about TVD "pushing its first gay character ". Except...its not the first gay character people. Caroline 's dad was gay. And I don't recall there being a lot of drama about that. Now that's either because A) We never saw Bill with Steven and got a glimpse of them as an actual couple and therefore the "gay thing " was easily ignored/overlooked OR B) Bill being g gay was just a part of the storyline from the word go and therefore simply accepted as him being gay because that's who he was. It was a seamless easy introduction that was what it was.
Now if reason A is the source of the objection then that's easily fixed. Don't watch. If you don't want to watch two people as a couple because they're guys then don't. But I'd like to point out that no one knows yet if Luke will have a romantic interest. All we know right now is that hes going to be interacting with Caroline.
If the reason is B then I would say that instead of thinking of the character as a gay character simply think of him as new character who isn't going to be involved with new pal Caro beyond friendship because she isn't his type. I would offer that judgement be suspended about the introduction of this storyline until we actually get a chance to discover what the storyline is. Perhaps it will be a smooth fitting intro.

I know there are gay and straight people out there but sorry but Im tired of the media pushing gays everywhere, every minute in all the shows out there. Leave it the way it is, why fix it if it aint broken. I mean I respect gays and let them do what they want to do in their lifestyle but I dont like the idea of mixing gays in a straight show., I apologize but I dont like the idea.

@ Nooo

I agree 100%. Teen wolf added their token gay and messed up the show. They lost a lot of viewers. Not because of the gayness added. But because it was not natural. An obvious forced write in. It cheapens the whole thing and really lessens the affect of the character. Not good TVD. Not good at all. Caroline's dad being gay? That was a natural feeling SL that was built up and it fit. Didn't seem to have a back door PC agenda....But maybe he'll be killed off. Quick!

@ Nooo

Putting a gay character on a show isn't like putting new furniture in your living room. We're people, not decorations. Gay people have been around as long as straight people. the media isn't pushing anything

@ Nooo

By saying you respect gays and then saying “for them to do what they want in their lifestyle” and that you don't like the idea of mixing gays in a straight show only shows how completely ignorant, disrespectful, discriminatory, hypocritical and racist you are!! You are not sorry at all and have no respect for yourself or anyone. The media does not "push gays”, it is called reporting progress, change, and ending discrimination, hatred, racism, and inequality! I suppose in your twisted brain the media also pushed slavery and Hitler's slaughter of the Jews too! Obviously no one has educated you properly so let me help you with another bit of info...being gay is not a lifestyle or a is genetic just like you were born straight. And, you not liking the idea of mixing gays in a straight show is the most ridiculous, ignorant, and uneducated statement anyone could make. You need to get a reality check, crawl out of that cave that you are living in, and stop making ridiculous statements that only make you sound ignorant, prejudiced, discriminatory, & a pathetic racist. The only reason there is still hatred, discrimination, racism, and inequality in this world is due to ignorant people like you!!

@ @VinJohnny

Careful now. Your bias hating bigotry is showing.

wouldn't the story have a better twist if we hadn't known he's gay in the first place..?
I hope this is not a publicity stunt..

So TVD already sucumb to the media to cast its first gay character. question why the series need a gay character? I dont get it

@ Noo

And why shouldn't there be? There are straight people and gay people aren't there?

I think Janero would be make a HOT addition to the show !! :)

Jesse Plemons or Aarun Paul - My two choices.

Spindae 2o

First guy that came on my mind was Ed Westwick, and after him Chace Crowford. I always got that gay vibe from Chuck especially with that S1 haircut. And for the sister I would say Mackenzie Rosman, I want that girl back on my screen.

I'm getting the feeling this will be a cuter version of Jack McFarland rather than a cuter version of Steven Fry

I always figured Katherine was bi-sexual. It would have been HOT to see her shacking up with some witch.

Vampire Diaries Quotes

Elena: I wanna remember.
Damon: Well you're a day late and a dollar short honey.
Elena: I mean I wanna try. Knowing there is this whole piece of my life missing it's driving me crazy, ok? So I have to at least try to get it back.

Damon: You know what they are? Children. Like lighting a candle's going to make everything OK, or even saying a prayer. Or pretending Elena's not going to end up just like the rest of us murdering vampires. Stupid, delusional, exasperating little children. And I know what you're going to say: 'It makes them feel better, Damon.' So what? For how long? A minute, a day? What difference does it make? Because in the end, when you lose somebody, every candle, every prayer is not going to make up for the fact that the only thing you have left is hole in your life where that somebody that you cared about used to be. And a rock with a birthday carved into it that I'm pretty sure is wrong. So thanks, friend. Thanks for leaving me here to babysit. Because I should be long gone by now. I didn't get the girl, remember? I'm just stuck here fighting my brother and taking care of the kids. You owe me big.
Alaric: I miss you too, buddy.
