Grey's Anatomy Review: A Birthday Surprise

at .  Updated at . Comments

My birthday's fast-approaching and I've actually started my wish list already.

One thing that certainly won't make the cut is a man absorbed by his own twin. Yes, you read that right.

As the doctors at SGMW hospital wished Webber a happy birthday on Grey's Anatomy Season 10 Episode 16, they gave him what's known as a fetus in fetu, a developmental abnormality in which a mass of tissue resembling a fetus forms inside the body. Honestly, I couldn't think of a better gift for Webber.

Much to Webber's dismay, the staff threw a surprise party for him. I loved that everyone was there to wish him well; it was just very touching after all this time. Ross' toast was sweet, and Owen's good news about a new promising role as the director of the residency program was simply icing on the (birthday) cake.

Mama Avery was back to celebrate and also to wreak a bit of havoc upon the newlyweds.

Japril struggled with Catherine totally questioning April's character and suggesting that she needed to sign a prenuptial. While I found April a tad annoying at times, I liked that she stood up to her mother-in-law and even apologized for how their marriage went down.

Undoubtedly, Japril's rush into a marriage will be nothing short of issues as April's basically married into The Avery Foundation. As hinted in the final minutes, Japril has much to discuss as they both have extremely differing opinions in how they will raise their children.

Meanwhile, Jo wasn't too sure about signing off on a declaration of relationship. It's a good thing that Alex talked her into it because I just can't get enough of these two. They are definitely my favorite couple right now.

As for Crowen, they shared some very special moments. Cristina's what-if installment is next week and I'm wondering if she'll ultimately end up with Owen. What are your thoughts?

Elsewhere, talk about tension!

Callie and Derek argued about the sensors again. While both doctors brought up fair points, push came to shove and Derek said he'd walk if the sensors couldn't be shared. Luckily, all worked out in the end and Derek will continue his research with the POTUS and he and Callie can continue their research.

Other Thoughts:

  • Which medical case did you enjoy more: Ross' storyline with the young expectant mother or the absorbed twin case? I thought they were both very interesting and feel like the writers are really pushing for Ross' road to redemption.
  • I know this installment had a lot going on already, but I'm so ready to see Meredith rock her research. She's got Stephanie and the research assistant now. Let's go!
  • It seems like the second half of Grey's Anatomy Season 10 is all about familiar faces. First, we heard of Isaiah Washington's return. Now, it's been reported that Caterina Scorsone will reprise her role as the unforgettable Dr. Amelia Shepherd later this season.
  • I absolutely love the '80s cover songs lately. Seriously, it's kind of amazing how perfect the song choices have been.
  • Be sure to return next week to chime in on our Grey's Anatomy Round Table.

Overall, "We Gotta Get Outta This Place" was strong and had a perfect mix of just about everything we love about Grey's. See you next week, TV Fanatics.

But first: get a look at Grey's Anatomy Season 10 Episode 17:

Whose return are you more excited for?

It's Grey Sloan Hospital, not SGMW!

Another marriage rushed into without discussing some very important issues. It proved to be a problem for Crowen and now the Avery Foundation will cause hiccups in the Kepvery marriage.
No surprise that Webber is the attending chief of the residents. Der has helped Callie more than he has helped his wife! I just hope Mer's clinical trial works bby the end of S10

I just wish Avery and April weren't forced to swirl around religion/secularism over and over again. I like them together, but that's so annoying. And it's not like people aren't raised like that all the time! Why can't we move on, already?

I can't understand what Cristina sees in Owen. Nothing in that man transpires honesty. He's an obsessed, self-absorbed asshole who doesn't love anyone but himself. If the only way to get rid of Hunt in Cristina's life is send her away, I'm ready. What a huge disappointment this Owen character has proved to be along the seasons of the series. And I can't understand either why mama Avery is so intrusive in two adults life on their 30's.

@ Guest

THIS! All of this! I love Christina by herself, I hate Christina with Owen. Her character gets changed just a little, but the difference is annoying. And he's insufferable. I always want to like Mama Avery, but I never can. She's aggravating and just pushes her way in to everyone's business.

The name of the hospital is NO longer SGMW, but GSMH (Grey Sloan Hospital Memorial Hospital). Haven't you noticed that throughout the whole season so far?!!!!!!!?!?!!?!?

I am actually curious about the episode centered on Cristina, I love Yang. She is so powerful and she is not afraid to admit what she wants. the only problem here is Owen...seriously, dude, make up your mind once and for all! I love Jackson and April dealing with big mama bear...although I do not get why they should be already worrying about their kids religion...seriously??? In 2014 is that what you are worrying about for your kids???!!! sorry but I do not buy it. Actually I do not want Izzie back, do not care about all the comments on KH, she could do whatever she wants, but the way they have written off her character, it was nonsensical, puff one day she disappeared in fin air...I am really a fan of Alex and Jo, they really do have great chemistry, they understand each other, the way Jo was freaking out, it could have been Alex a couples of year no Izzie, please!

@ Fra

Sorry about the double post, but I think what religion they're going to raise their kids with is important in any year. There are a lot of things we can't control but we can control what we (try to) teach our kids. Plus April's religion seems really important to her. I like Jolex much better than Alex with Izzie-Alzzie? Karevens (last names)? Izzlex? I don't know.

@ Fra

Actually it seems like it's Cristina who can't make up her mind about Crowen, not him. It's obvious to me that he's always going to be drawn to her even if he's with someone else. Um...did I miss something? Where did the talk about Izzie come from? I'll bet Jo gets pissed at Alex about her if he didn't tell her he used to be married. I know it's something he'd rather forget, but isn't that information someone *needs*?

@ Fra

No Izzie and no Burke. I actually like Greys better after they all left with their huge egos.

@ Calamity

Wow! People like you are the reason the show isn't getting any keep watching no matter what crap u've been served, so shonda doesn't care, and she keeps making crap.
For the record, Izzie was one of the best characters on grey's and jo has nothing on her. even burke, who only really served as a love interest for yang had such a presence on the show that he contributes more than jo ever will. say what u want, but the old grey's will always be better than the new grey's...and everybody knows that

I hope Cristina rocks her clinical trial, she deserves it. Glad to see her+Shane being professional ONLY, they work well.
But I'm so so tired of this back-and-forth between Cristina/Owen. The kids-issue is a binary YES/NO thing. There is no future for them, nothing's changed, she should have dumped him for good after he F***** another woman just to hurt her. Besides Cristina is much too entertaining a character to be tied to boring-Owen. I am not sure about Burke because it's been SO long, just hope his return won't be a clichéd scenario, Amelia can stay off screen for all I care, don't get why people like her.

I absolutely love Japril, their scenes with mama Avery were fantastic. I hope they can work through their issues. I am getting tired of Crowen now, they're just going around in circles. Derek and Callie make a good team, I enjoy their scenes together.

Although I’m glad of both returns (Preston Burke and Amelia Shepherd), I have a preference for Amelia's, given that she is my favorite character. I find the word obnoxious a little hard for Amelia or anyone of the Shepherd family.

Loved this episode. I really enjoyed the Jackson , April and Catherine scenes. Truly phenomenal. I also enjoyed Shane's scenes also he has good chemistry with Cristina. The Richard surprise party surprised me. These Doctors seem to devote all there time in that hospital. Can't wait for the Cristina themed episode next week.

Grey's Anatomy Season 10 Episode 16 Quotes

I don't have to say a word. She just looks at me and sees who I am and how I feel and accepts it. She doesn't try to change it or wants to change it. That person. There's a billion people but I imagine there's only one of her.

It puts the fun in fundoplication.
