Following a truly shocking Vampire Diaries Season 5 finale, most fans will be focused on who was lost at the conclusion of an emotional hour.

But TV Guide has confirmed who's been found... for good:

Matt Davis will officially return to The Vampire Diaries as a series regular on Season 6.

On tonight's episode, The Other Side officially fell apart - but not before Liv concocted a spell to bring folks back through Bonnie.

Alaric was one of the many previously-deceased who made it through.

A TV Fanatic favorite, Alaric died on The Vampire Diaries Season 3 finale, but re-appeared twice as a ghost, most recently drinking with his BFF, Damon, on the 100th episode.

I am thrilled that Alaric came back. But I couldn't stop crying when Damon couldn't get back, and that emotional end scene with Damon and Elena literally made me sob. I know they will never, ever kill Damon totally off the show he IS the show IMO but I really hope that he doesn't take as long to come back as Alaric did. That was wonderful what Lexi did. I am so happy we got to see her once more and that she's finally at peace.

I'm positive that Damon will be back.....funny enough I wasn't devastated over this because I read the books. This was one way the TVD performed a WAY ROUND about way of following the books. Although the temporary death of Stefan was a surprise.....

I'm glad you brought this up because I've been wondering about this. I've only read the first three books but have read all the spoilers, naturally. The ending did remind me of something that occurs in the books. Interesting because I thought they'd left the books far behind. Also, no one seems to have picked up on Gram's final words to Bonnie indicating that she had done *something* to make sure Bonnie would be alright.

Elena has some blame in the situation. She insisted on dying with Damon, adding one more person for Bonnie to have to bring back. Being a vamp has kind of made her a brat.

I was thinking the same thing. I really don't care for Elena. She makes everything so difficult.

Well it's been fun TVD but without Damon there's no show for me. Sorry, not trying to be a baby about it but he was the best thing about the show for me. No Damon - no bueno.

I agree

Stop being a baby. Do you really think they'd permanently kill of Damon from the show?

So happy about Alaric. Lexi found peace which is also nice. I have no words for the screw job Damon got. My heart is broken. And Caroline better know that Damon got to Bonnie late so he could make sure Liz was ok.

I'm glad Damon is gone

Jerk!! :o

NOOOOOOO ... Are u stupid ... Damon is the whole show. Without him. There is no show at all!!!!

AWESOME!!!!! So is he a vamp or not? Is Elena or Stefan cause Tyler wasn't?

@ n

Tyler vamp side disappeared with the loss of magic when he was thrown over town line but he died a wolf which is still supernatural. He came back as a wolf. Interesting and not sloppy writing for a change.

As soon as he came back, I knew he was going to be back. Yes I am heartbroken Damon is gone. Not sad about Bonnie though. Not sure why, maybe not so invested in her.

Vampire Diaries Quotes

You want a love that consumes you. You want passion and adventure, and even a little danger... I want you to get everything you're looking for. But for right now, I want you to forget that this happened. Can't have people knowing I'm in town yet. Goodnight, Elena.

Damon: You know what they are? Children. Like lighting a candle's going to make everything OK, or even saying a prayer. Or pretending Elena's not going to end up just like the rest of us murdering vampires. Stupid, delusional, exasperating little children. And I know what you're going to say: 'It makes them feel better, Damon.' So what? For how long? A minute, a day? What difference does it make? Because in the end, when you lose somebody, every candle, every prayer is not going to make up for the fact that the only thing you have left is hole in your life where that somebody that you cared about used to be. And a rock with a birthday carved into it that I'm pretty sure is wrong. So thanks, friend. Thanks for leaving me here to babysit. Because I should be long gone by now. I didn't get the girl, remember? I'm just stuck here fighting my brother and taking care of the kids. You owe me big.
Alaric: I miss you too, buddy.
