24: Live Another Day Review: The Double Take

by at .  Updated at . Comments

What could have been more shocking than a missile killing the President of the United States in the middle of Wembley Stadium?

How about finding out the he's alive after all in 24: Live Another Day Season 1 Episode 9.

As some fans speculated, Chloe managed to hack into the video feed to convince Margot that she'd gotten her man. Is it bad to say that I was a little disappointed. As much as I love the character, having Heller sacrifice himself like that for the greater good would have been an epic send off.

But this twist still managed to illicit some entertaining shock waves that are sure to be felt for the rest of the season. For one, Audrey sees Jack as the hero for saving her father and regards her husband as the man who would have sacrificed him and kept it from her.

That's going to be a difficult issue to overcome, especially with Audrey placing phone calls to Jack as she did in this 24: Live Another Day quote

I know that he was willing to sacrifice himself and I know that you would never let that happen and that means a lot to me. I'm not ready to lose him.

Audrey

This may make Mark even more willing to hand Jack over to the Russians when all is said and done.

Margot was furious when Ian saw his double take and found out that Heller had double crossed her. She was more than willing to kill her son when he tried to bail before that missile could take out Waterloo Station. What I didn't realize was that her late husband wasn't Ian and Simone's father but their step-father, yet Margot still expected them both to lay down their lives for his cause.

I knew Jack was going to pull Ian from the window when he got too close. What I never expected was that he'd toss Margot out as well. Jack Bauer has certainly reached his limit on terrorist rhetoric.

But one question - Is Simone still alive? Last we saw her she was coding on the table with the CIA doctors.

I was heartbroken when Chloe called to say goodbye to Jack. She sounded so broken. Little did I realize that she and Adrian were lovers. Ugh.

And I had to laugh when Navarro asked Adrian why he wanted the drone override device. Oh, I don't know. Maybe he'll use it for world peace or sell it for scrap. What do you think he wants to do with it!

I may just enjoy Jack taking out Adrian and Navarro even more than I did watching him toss Margot. But first he'll have to find them.

OK TV Fanatics, what did you think of President Heller surviving the missile?

Another great episode - I just wish this was a full season and not an abbreviated one. So cool that Margot and her loser son got theirs this earlly in the season (and in the way that they did). I was afraid that we would have to wait until the end to see them get whacked. Really looking forward to the remaining shows. Great writing, great acting and a great location make for an all-around great show.

I can't begin to tell you how much" i find live another day" to be the very best on the tube. The dedication to truth, principal, love for country, as well as personal sacrifice for the values, the jack Bauer character brings to the screen has not been seen since the Duke. Hats off to you Mr Sutherland, to your writers and director. The support roles are something to be proud of as well, I can't think of any player that didn't play their part to perfection.

In hindsight, it should've been obvious that Heller wasn't dead because they didn't use a silent clock to end the episode. I was wondering why the clock was still beeping last week after Heller's "sacrifice". Now I know. It's because he wasn't dead.

Adrian and Chloe as lovers (at the very least, past lovers) had been hinted at from the get-go. I'm bummed that Kate has been marginalized in the last few episodes, although I think she'll probably be the one to bring Navarro down hard.

@ Joe

I hope you're right that Kate is written to take out navarro. I'm surprised there wasn't a total lockdown after he took the device. Jack going solo is a big mistake, it's pretty much his fault navarro got away.
