Teen Wolf Review: The Heist

by at .  Updated at . Comments

It appears Kate has been a busy bee.

We learn in Teen Wolf Season 4 Episode 2 that she might be having trouble knowing when and how to change, but that hasn't stopped her from making plans to rob the Hales blind. Everything they had left, it seems, is now in the hands of what appears to be an associate of Kate's.

The really bad news is that bearer bonds belong to whoever is holding them. They haven't even issued them since 1982 because they were used heavily in the criminal underworld. Now Kate and friends have $117 million to use as she sees fit.

You have to admit, Kate Argent is gooood.

Not a whole lot really happened other than the trickery by Kate.

Apparently a lot more people know about Malia than I realized. Does Peter know? I couldn't tell by his comments.

Scott: This is Malia.
Peter: Beautiful eyes. Did you get them from your father?
Malia: Mother.
Peter: Interesting. Anyway, I'm sure they told you a lot about me.
Malia: The homicidal killing spree came up.
Peter: Well, we're all works in progress.

Peter is always welcome. How funny was it when he ran away from the berserkers? I guess that right there should answer my question about Malia. Surely he wouldn't leave his daughter to fight them without him. The one thing Peter probably wouldn't endanger would be his own spawn.

For me, this installment was made up of moments. There was girl time with Kira and Lydia. Kira's a kickass kitsune with a katana -- and Scott it totally into her. Seeing the glee on Kira's face as she jumped into the fray with the berserkers was awesome. She didn't do much, but damn how she tried.

Stiles was amazing with his "cousin Miguel" and Mr. McCall. Learning how he spends about five nights a week with Malia apparently mauling him and then climbing into bed to spoon him (he's always the little spoon) was also priceless.

Deputy Parrish really stepped up and helped when he was needed. He's a kind man and exactly the kind of deputy that Sheriff Stilinski needs at his side; someone he can eventually trust. Oh, another awesome Teen Wolf quote:

Sheriff Stilinski: I want you to be honest with me. Totally and completely honest. Have you been time traveling?
Stiles: Hang on, what?
Sheriff: Because if time traveling is real, I'm done, I'm out. You're going to be driving me to Eichen House.
Scott: We found him like that.
Sheriff: Where? Swimming in the fountain of youth?!
Stiles: No. We found him buried in a tomb of wolfsbane in an Azetec temple in Mexico underneath a church in the middle of a town that was destroyed by an earthquake.

Papa Stiles has some limits and time travel? That's one of them! I am really hoping the adults get some more airtime and become friends now that most of them are in on the secrets.

There are a lot of questions as a result of "117.'

Who was in the black leather, stealing the bearer bonds? How do they know Kate? Is it a member of the Hale family, alive? How else would they know about the bonds?

Why did Derek's eyes turn yellow again? Did all the stuff with the Nemeton bring Paige back to life? Even if he returned to his youth for a short time, he still killed Paige when he was actually young, right? That's why his eyes were blue before he aged again.

This season is definitely lighter than Teen Wolf Season 3. It's still completely confusing, having no idea what's next and it's a boatload of fun.

Were you surprised at Derek's golden eye color??

Kate doesn't know who the benefactor is clearly because in the promo with her and the berserkers she asks "Who is the Benefactor"

When I watched the premiere, I had no access to promos. I review based solely on the episode. :-) Had no idea what Kate might be up to next!

I think that Derek may be able to transform into a true wolf like his mother now. It seems like the past few seasons have been guiding him towards that and during the credits, you see a pure wolf after he appears. He went from being someone who built a pack just for the power to becoming a beta again to save Cora. Maybe that's why he reset. One of the Hale children had to have inherited that trait from Talia.
Also, Peter is a huge jerk now. There's no denying that. But from the stories and flashbacks shown, he seems to be a caring uncle/brother. It was seeing almost everyone he love die and being stuck with those memories in a near catatonic state for years that drove him crazy. He's like Malia in a sense, feral. He knows she's his daughter and maybe if they bonded he would have stayed. But it's like Malia said, she'd leave Kira and Lydia behind and run. I feel that the whole feral mindset and having to catch up after being away from society for awhile might make it easy for them to relate to each other.

I also miss Isaac and the twins. But it is clear that in the next few weeks we are going to get three new guys one of which will be a new beta.

For anyone worried about the young Derek storyline, it comes and goes quickly in these first two episodes of the season. It probably won’t be remembered as Teen Wolf goes on, because’s it’s not so much a storyline as it is a catalyst. It ends up being a means to push the reset button on Derek, giving him the golden yellow eyes of a newborn werewolf. Just like that, his human kill is off the table, and he’s an innocent beta. After all these years of brooding and internal torment, Derek Hale gets a do over.

I think Peter does know Malia is his...pretty sure Lydia told him after that trip she and Scott took in Stiles' head. Peter is exactly the type of guy to run away from beserkers and leave his daughter behind. He's not exactly prime uncle and I doubt he was a good brother to Derek's mom either. Speaking of Derek, not sure why his eyes are now gold but i'm sure it represents some sort of transformation for him. Hopefully we find out in 117.

Is it possible that Derek's eyes went back to yellow because he answered the call of his Alpha. Young Derek didn't know or really trust Scott. All he knew was that he was the alpha. So when Scott call and Derek answered he went anyway. I don't know it seemed to me that even though Derek didn't remember Scott apart of him still knew Scott. Like he knew Scott's call. Basically I think Derek's eyes turned back yellow because he sacrificed himself to Scott his Alpha. Probably not a great explanation but my opinion.

Does that mean he does not feel guilt over killing Paige anymore since he has Scott and Scott is always there for him?
