Once Upon a Time Season 5 Episode 3 Review: Siege Perilous

Oh, Emma, you really are becoming quite the schemer.

On Once Upon a Time Season 5 Episode 3, Emma finally realized what she needed to do in order to get the sword out of the stone, and let's just say that it was rather fitting. In what world would anyone ever expect Rumple to become a hero?

Dark Swan Alert! - Once Upon a Time Season 5 Episode 3

The dude has been treacherous, to say the least, for like ever, but it should make for a pretty different dynamic when, or if, this plan works. It will also raise a lot of questions. Will anyone in town even be able to look at him as a hero? Will Belle be able to cope with him as one? She's far too used to associating him with evil so there's no telling whether she could ever trust him.

She has held the rose for a few weeks, but that's not to say she'd ever accept a Rose from him again. He has a lot of making up to do, and he'd better start quickly if he wants to get close to being successful at it.

I don't entirely know whether it was meant to be so obvious that King Arthur wasn't really helping our characters, or not. I mean, he was being way too nice and shady at the same time. Everyone in Storybrooke appears to be pretty gullible, right?

Why would King Arthur realistically take David under his wing like that without being up to something? These characters have come across enough villains in their time to be able to tell who is one. Get it together, folks!

These people seem friendly, but they threaten everything we hold dear.

Arthur

David seems taken in by Arthur, so I'm willing to bet my bottom dollar that Lancelot's reveal to Snow will result in some heated arguments between this couple as he struggles to believe what's going on. It will be very tedious if this rings true, but it will create a lot of drama.

There's no denying that Hook still loves Emma, but it's clear he isn't a fan of her dark side. This new Emma seems to think that everything she says goes, and that's far from the case were Hook is concerned.

She may have made him a faux dinner to try and remind him of the good times, but the fact of the matter is that there's no sugar coating the notion that your girlfriend has turned into a cold hearted bitch.

Zelena: There you are my lovely voice. It's so nice and friendly.
Regina: Shut up.

As usual, her scenes with Rumple were hilarious. Even as the crocodile version of the character, Robert Carlyle has been bringing some much needed comic relief to an otherwise darker plot, and they've probably been the most memorable parts of Once Upon A Time Season 5

"Siege Perilous" was another solid episode. It advanced the story along at a brisk enough pace and left me eager to find out what's going to happen next for these characters. Not bad for a show in it's fifth season!

Other notes of interest:

  • The Regina and Zelena scenes were a highlight for me. There's every reason to believe that when all is said and done, that Zelena will be a good character, much like her sister.
  • Is Emma reminding anyone of The Master from Buffy The Vampire Slayer? Her costume for Dark Swan and her lair look way too similar to the iconic villain.
  • How did Regina know that sheet of paper was hers? I'm pretty sure any question mark would look pretty similar.
