Jane the Virgin Season 2 Episode 5 Review: Chapter Twenty-seven

at .  Updated at .

When it comes to love, sometimes everyone walks away with their heart broken.

After his physical altercation with Rafael, Jane telling him they couldn't be together, and getting fired, it's safe to say Michael is at the lowest point we've seen him on Jane the Virgin Season 2 Episode 5. Oh yeah, and we can't forget Nadine pointing a gun at him!

There's a lot to discuss after tonight's events, so let's jump in.

Before we get to the Michael of it all, let's talk about the episode's special guest star. I'm talking about Britney Spears! Celebrity cameos are always hit or miss. It was just a few weeks ago that we had the useless cameo of Kesha on Jane the Virgin Season 2 Episode 2.

Having Britney be Rogelio's nemesis was brilliant. She may not be a good actress, but seeing Rogelio get so riled up by her presence at the Marbella was hilarious enough to make me forgive the awkward line reading.

Britney Spears: Wait, are you still mad about that teleprompter accident?
Rogelio: It wasn't an accident. It was premeditated, and you were the premeditator.

Rogelio is always a larger than life character, so it only makes sense he would have a feud with a larger than life celebrity figure. Ever the drama queen, he couldn't help but confront Britney for her misdeeds.

Jane's daydream of dancing with Britney was also a treat. Gina Rodriguez has got some moves!

Aside from an appearance by a pop diva, Petra went through with marrying Milos. I was a little surprised the wedding happened so quickly, but Milos was not a patient man. He may have claimed the marriage was about love and taxes, but it's also apparently about grenades too!

Petra has gotten herself into more trouble by being with Milos. Her crazy mother doesn't seem nearly as crazy now for trying to protect her daughter from such a bad guy.

I kind of care about you Petra, in that I don't want you to marry a psycho kind of way.

Jane

Hopefully Petra can get herself out of this marriage soon. Jane's concern for Petra was sweet considering the majority of the scenes these women have shared have been fraught with distrust and jealousy. It would be great to see them become something resembling friends one day.

In other heartfelt news, Alba is still on her way to becoming a citizen despite Xo's felony history. The B-plot where Xo and Jane tried to get Zedd to come clean about his crime was funny, but I could have done without it.

The only bright spots of the storyline were seeing Xo and Alba accidently get high and then share their tender mother-daughter moment.

Unfortunately, the love triangle between Michael, Jane, and Rafael was anything but tender. Jane was so sure she was making the right decision by picking Michael.

I've come to notice that Michael tends to be his own worst enemy. Instead of speaking with Jane about Rafael possibly selling him out, he let his anger get the best of him and got into a fight with Rafael. Sadly, it was little Mateo who ended up getting hurt.

Clearly Michael did not intend for Mateo to get that cut on his arm, but actions have consequences. Jane was rightly upset by Michael's behavior, and I don't blame her for not wanting to be with Michael... right now. At least I'm crossing my fingers that her decision is only temporary.

I still believe that Michael is the one for Jane, and I hope he can find a way to earn Jane's trust back. I was also proud of the writers for not having Jane swap her decision and go back to Rafael. That would be too easy.

Jane picked the man she wanted to be with for the rest of her life. Her feelings for Michael haven't disappeared. She just knows that Mateo is what's most important, and she has to think about what's best for him.

Michael's life seemed to go down the drain in the span of a night with Jane dumping him and then getting fired. The poor guy just couldn't catch a break. We ended the episode with Nadine in the backseat of Michael's car pointing a gun at him. I don't know what she has in store for him, but it can't be good.

So over to you guys! Where you disappointed by Michael's actions? Did you enjoy Britney Spears' appearance? Will Rafael make a big play to win Jane's affections back? What are your predictions for Jane the Virgin Season 2 Episode 6?

Petra: You met my mother, Jane. Clearly you can understand the urge.
