It was all about Damon Salvatore's sinister past on The Vampire Diaries Season 7 Episode 10! In the mid-season premiere, we watched as he fought against his inner demons and finally came to terms with losing his mother.

What was your favorite quote or scene from “Hell Is Other People”?
Matt: The final one, mostly because it meant this horrific hour of television was over. But also because it left us in a fairly intriguing place for next week.
Carissa: Gotta agree with Matt. Also because it was bloody and in the present. What were they thinking with Groundhog day in the the Civil War? Ugh.
Paul: I agree with everyone else on this one. It was a terrible episode for the midseason premiere. The final scene was actually pretty interesting.
Damon's Hell seems to be losing his mother without forgiving her. Thoughts?
Matt: I thought his Hell was having to relive that haircut over and over and over. But this theory makes far more sense.
Carissa: If it was any surprise that Damon really loved his mother, this might have been needed. But did anybody not already know he was just being an ass by not forgiving her? Did we really need a lesson about it? Um. No.
Paul: He has this tough exterior, but he's a softie at heart. That much we know after that terrible hour.
This episode featured only principle cast (for the most part). Did that add to or detract from the episode for you?
Matt: It wasn't as much of a negative as the fact that this concept has been done to death (Groundhog Day, Edge of Tomorrow)… but it certainly didn't help. It's not exactly a major surprise at this point that Damon uses anger or humor as a defense mechanism.
Carissa: I thought it was pretty even, actually. Damon and the "Hey there, Hero" dude were the main characters, making it pretty much 50/50.
Paul: I also thought it was pretty even. I did miss Enzo, but that's about it.
Now that Damon and Stefan are both out of the stone, what happens next?
Matt: They drink all the bourbon.
Carissa: They makes quips about how large Caroline has become in their absence. Then they (please oh please oh please) kill Julian.
Paul: They go to the writers room and compel them to give them some decent material to work with.
What are your three wishes for the second part of The Vampire Diaries Season 7?
Matt: I only have one at this point: That The CW announced this is the show's final season, allowing it to go out with some dignity and with a solid, concluding storyline in place.
Carissa: The end of the heretics because they were only good with Lily leading them, Matt is killed off because Zach Roerig kind of deserves to find out if he can actually make it in this business, and if they decide to continue on that the series if thrust forward into what we've seen as future because it's the only thing of interest all season long. Or, what Matt said.
Paul: Julian dies a horrible death at the hands of the heretics, Bonnie and Damon become Bamon and the show rides off into the sunset with a solid final run of episodes.
