Awkward Season 5 Episode 23 Review: Second Chances; Happy Campers. Happier Trails

at .

Jenna and Matty are finally reunited y'all!

Yes, the two of them managed to defy the odds and on Awkward Season 5 Episode 23, they found their way back to one another.

It all happened a little too fast and at the expense of Luke. Luke was the best one for Jenna initially, but the horrible writing changed his character so much that I couldn't bear to see Jenna with him.

Reapplying to SCU - Awkward

In fact, Jenna should try being single for quite some time. She doesn't need a man in her life. She needs to stop and evaluate her life and establish where a guy can fit into her lifestyle.

She let Luke push her around and that's ultimately what made her resent him. He seemed to think that he could plan Jenna's future out for her without giving her any say in it.

That's not a healthy relationship. The more I think of it, the more I take back the nice things I said about him earlier in the season.

This once promising character has been completely destroyed in favor of driving Jenna and Matty back together and it wasn't at all worth it.

Just take a look online, there's a clear division in the fan base about whether Jatty should be a thing.

The constant back and forth has destroyed whatever momentum they had and it kind of sucks. By this stage in shows run, you'd expect the fans to be clamoring for some resolution, but that's not the case.

If for some miraculous reason Awkward does return for another season, it would feature another time jump and that would probably mean more drama for the core couple.

Another season wouldn't be worth the hassle. Jatty are happy for now, so there's no point in trying to change it all now.

One thing I did like about their reunion was Lacey shouting at Matty. She made him realize just how much he loves Jenna and if they last the test of time, they have Lacey to thank.

Sadie was on top form this evening. She just kept bringing the funny in every damn scene. It was a little fitting that everyone thought she tried to kill herself.

Remember when Jenna was accused of the same thing and was constantly ridiculed by Sadie?

Fuck you, you stupid robotic bitch.

Sadie

The thing that shocked me most about all of it was the Jenna showed up at the hospital. That's just an accident waiting to happen.

Sadie doesn't like her and probably never will. I did say the same about Tamara, so at least there's a glimmer of hope.

I'm indecisive about the developments with Sergio because this is another couple with constant back and forth.

Can the writers not come up with a way to keep the couples together?

It was good to meet back up with Val, but she seemed way too out of place in the episode.

Elsewhere, Tamara finally matured and it was about time! Patrick is nice enough, but he shouldn't be throwing that amount of money around.

I can't believe that Tamara actually considered letting him pay her debt, but at least she changed her tune by the end of the hour.

She'd have regretted it if she let him pay. A time would have come in which he would have held it against her.

The episode worked very well as a series finale. It did tie a lot of developments up a little too fast, but it was closure!

The producers are holding out hope that MTV reverses its decision and brings the show back, but this should really be it.

The show has been running on steam for far too long now and this was the best ending they could give us.
