Ray Donovan Season 4 Episode 6 Review: Fish and Bird

at .

Was that hour of Ray Donovan the first step to recovery for the struggling Showtime series?

A lot went down on Ray Donovan Season 4 Episode 6 and most of it made for a thrilling hour of television.

If you thought Mickey would somehow talk his way out of county, then you were wrong. It may be a rare occurrence, but Mickey actually did something good for one of his sons.

A Benefit - Ray Donovan

His actions were no doubt fueled by finding out about Abby, but still, it was pretty nice of him.

Losing Abby would really be the straw that broke the camel's back for the troubled family. She's like the glue holding them all together.

She plays a great mediator when there's drama, but the family just wouldn't be able to cope without her.

Case in point: Bunchy going to her at the close of the hour. He knows her well enough to know when something isn't quite right. The scene between her and Bunchy was heartbreaking.

It made Abby realize the severity of her situation and left her with a huge decision as she weighed her options.

Abby and Ray's moment of passion really was something all fans will no doubt be ecstatic about. It should have happened quite some time ago. They each have a lot on their minds right now, but it was good for them to take a moment out to show us that they're still madly in love.

No matter what insane amount of drama gets thrown at them, they'll always find a way to stay together. That's what love is.

It was a bit of a shock to learn Sonia had cancer herself. You would never think she's ill. She is a great character and all, so it be great if she stuck around for a while.

It did suck for Ray thinking thought he was off the hook after Mickey took the wrap for the shoot out. Us at home would have been silly to think otherwise.

There was no way Ray was getting out of his mess without being forced to participate in other illegal activities. Belikov isn't one to let things slide.

He wanted to make sure Ray knew who was boss, and that's why I'm glad Ray took him out of the equation.

Ray killing people is sort of a grey area. He's gone down a dark path recently, and I genuinely thought he was too far gone. The only way to really ensure safety for his family was to kill Belikov, so I can't fault him for this one.

That said, there's no way this will end well. Ray sending Belikov to Moscow in the crate was well thought out. It might have been the closest thing to a chance he was ever going to get, but whenever Belikov's men realize that he's missing, they're going to go after Ray,

Will Ray be able to get out of this one? There always seems to be a way out on this show, but I just don't see it coming without huge ramifications this time.

Conor is becoming one of the worst characters on television. He is just so dumb. Nothing good is going to come from the kid waving the gun around.

Don't even get me started on him watching the porn while waving said gun about. If the Russian mob doesn't do anything bad to the family, expect Conor to make another bad judgment call and hurt someone.

He's THAT stupid.

"Fish and Bird" was an exciting installment of this Showtime drama. The quality has really been all over the place this season, but hopefully this installment is the first of many great episodes to come.
