The Originals Round Table: Family Ties

What other mysteries are hiding in Hayley's past? Our curious minds want to know!

We got a closer look into Hayley's family history on The Originals Season 4 Episode 5. And we're left with so much excitement.

Below, TV Fanatics Mandy Treccia, Justin Carreiro, and Amanda Steinmetz discuss Hayley's backstory, the future of Freya and Keelin, and the potential new direction for Klaus.

1. What did you think of Hayley's backstory being explored?

Mandy: I loved it. We've gotten so little of her history so far, and it's frustrating. Last time they delved into the werewolf stuff, it seemed to be more about Jackson than Hayley. I want to know more about her family. I'm happy she's getting a story of her own.

Justin: Has it been seasons since we got a true Hayley backstory focus? It's felt like it. We haven't learned much about her or her family history in the town. It's great to see them give more depth to her.

Amanda: So much of the focus is the history of the Mikaelsons, so it's nice to learn more about Hayley's family. Hayley is just as important as any of the other characters, so the mystery surrounding her family deserves to be explored.

2. What will become of Freya and Keelin?

Mandy: They're going to fall in love. And, because Freya is a Mikaelson, Keelin with likely end up dead. Because that's what happens to all of their love interests. For now, I'm happy Freya has someone outside of her family to talk to. She needs to learn proper social interaction.

Justin: I agree with Mandy about everything. These two are clearly going to start a relationship together and explore their feelings. Keelin is most likely going to die by the end of this season. They're grooming her character to be a sad death.

Amanda: Looks like we're all on the same page. I'm digging the vibe between these two, so I'd love to see a relationship blossom. Perhaps Keeling will make Freya more tolerable to me? But I agree that Keelin will probably end up dead.

Elijah, what are you doing here? Did you not learn your lesson the last time I put you down?

Marcel

3. Will Elijah try to kill Marcel again?

Mandy: I think Elijah might be possessed by The Hollow. He felt awful when he killed Marcel last season. And going against him to protect Klaus is one thing, but I don't think he'd openly antagonize him for kicks. I do think they'll come to blows again, but due to outside influences.

Justin: The big theme so far seems to foreshadow Marcel's death. I think Elijah will try it again and justify it to protect his family. I'm not sure if The Hollow will be involved.

Amanda: Mandy's prediction sounds plausible. If Elijah goes after Marcel again, it will probably be because of The Hollow. If Elijah tries to kill him again of his own volition, I will be disappointed.

4. Discuss your reaction to Sofya's involvement.

Mandy: Not even a little surprised. She came to town with Lucien to help bring down the Mikaelsons. She got cozy with Marcel after he banished them. Her feelings for him might be genuine because who can resist Marcel? But her being a villain is expected at this point.

Justin: She had "evil villain" written all over her. It's clear Sofya only looks out for herself and whatever will give her power. She's toying with everyone to get what she wants, but I think it will lead to her death.

Amanda: Am I supposed to be surprised? That girl reeks of power hungry and she'll do what needs to be done in order to get it.

5. Is Klaus on the road to redemption?

Mandy: Always. Klaus has been making strides to be better since the show began. He wants to be the father Hope needs. But 1,000 years of bad behavior can't be changed overnight. I think it'll take time, and there will be more setbacks. But Klaus will do what it takes to be there for Hope.

Justin: It's always a roller coaster with Klaus. Sometimes he wants to be good while the other times, he continues to be the Big Bad Mikaelson who holds power over people. This season could be his latest turn at redemption before he goes back to evil.

Amanda: I think he's been on this road for quite some time. However, this road isn't smooth or even going in one direction. Klaus can strive as much as he wants to be the best man he can be, but he will never be truly redeemed. I don't care how much he loves his daughter. That doesn't change 1,000 years of monstrous behavior.
