Grey's Anatomy Firefighter Spinoff Ordered Straight to Series at ABC!

at .

Are you ready to watch Seattle Fire?

While the name of the series hasn't sparked quite yet, there will be a Grey's Anatomy spinoff about the folks who work in a Seattle firehouse.

It comes from Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers and Shondaland vet Stacy McKee will be the showrunner. Is that all you need to know to want tune in as soon as it airs?

Grey's Anatomy has always had a healthy relationship with fire and rescue personnel, after all, they rely on them to bring in the injured for treatment.

And to be fair, the hospital has seen its share of tragedy.

You don't have to look past the photo above to see even emergency personnel get into trouble while trying to save the day.

Much like the Chicago series of shows over on NBC, it makes sense for Grey's to stretch its legs a bit by widening the universe outside strictly medical shows.

What's surprising about this particular straight-to-series show is how quickly it has come about.

There were no rumblings that I recall about an impending spinoff, and certainly, nothing to indicate they might be going the way of OneChicago.

Suddenly, Shondaland has her finger on the pulse of not only the medical community but the legal one (with For the People, airing midseason) and firefighters, which will also air midseason.

Only the direct spinoff will be inside of Grey's universe.

It's hard not to imagine this came about quickly.

Do you think it could have come to light while filming Grey's Anatomy Season 13 Episode 24? Maybe someone hit their radar during casting, or the idea started to feel very natural while working with the subject.

“No one can interweave the jeopardy firefighters face in the line of duty with the drama in their personal lives quite like Shonda, and Grey’s signature Seattle setting is the perfect backdrop for this exciting spinoff,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said.

We do know there will be a planted pilot to introduce the new characters at some point. It does seem unlikely it will be this early, though.

There is a possibility, though, that others from Grey's could make the leap to the spinoff.

Whether they would go in the capacity of doctors or in relationships or how they might do that, or whether they might include new or existing characters remains to be seen.

I know we have a lot of Grey's fanatics out there, so tell me what you think? Are you down for this?

And if you want to see where those firefighters above came from, you can watch Grey's Anatomy online to go through it all again.

Let us know what you think about the upcoming series, where you want it to air and who you hope gets a job starring on the next big Shonda Rhimes hit!
