NCIS: Los Angeles: Nia Long Is a New Series Regular!

at .

Nia Long is a lucky lady.

But maybe not as lucky as NCIS: Los Angeles Season 9.

In a role created specifically for the talented actress, Long will be joining the long-running NCIS franchise during the Los Angeles premiere on Sunday, October 1.

There were a lot of changes on NCIS: LA, some of them written purposefully, and some written due to natural events.

Long will added to the series to address the loss of Assistant Director Owen Granger left by the death of Miguel Ferrer, a role he played for the better part of five seasons.

Long will play Shay Mosley. She's a former Secret Service Agent now working for the Naval Criminal Intelligence Service.

Mosley will not only bring an East Coast style and demeanor to the team, but contacts she gained during her time as an experience Washington insider.

No doubt Mosley will be most helpful with her skills.

Will she, however, immediately fit in with the group?

That will only come by watching, I guess!

With all the losses the team has suffered over NCIS: Los Angeles Season 8, they're certainly going to be welcome to some fresh faces to brighten their days.

Sam will be facing a struggle without his heart, Michelle, and could use a new friend, especially in light of Callen's sudden wealth of riches in the family department.

Sam Goes Rogue - NCIS: Los Angeles

“The character was created specifically for Nia to capitalize on her strengths and personality and we are excited about the new opportunities and dynamics she brings to the show,” said NCIS: Los Angeles executive producer/showrunner R. Scott Gemmill.

“We couldn’t be happier to have her join our family.”

Let's hope the same goes for the rest of the team!

Long has a long and illustrious career on both television and in film. She was a rising star on Guiding Light when she got a role in Boyz N the Hood.

She concurrently worked on Fresh Prince of Bel Air before taking flight in films such as Soul Food, The Best Man, and Big Momma's House.

She worked in television on Judging Amy, Third Watch and most recently had a significant arc on Empire at war with Taraji P. Henson's Cookie.

Let us know what you think about Long's casting on NCIS: LA.

Who do you hope she befriends?

Don't forget to tune in on October 1 and watch NCIS: LA online to catch up on the saga to date!
