The Blacklist Season 5 Episode 2 Review: Greyson Blaise

Red is full of surprises, but so is Liz.

The Red and Liz fun parade continued on The Blacklist Season 5 Episode 2, but it seemed like Liz was having way more fun than she should have.

After working with Red for four seasons, it was difficult to understand why she was so giddy watching him work his magic. It's not like she never watched him in action before.

Greyson Blaise? - The Blacklist Season 5 Episode 2

It's true she's looking at him through new eyes, but she's becoming much too comfortable, much too quickly. No matter what Red did, Liz had a big, goofy smile on her face.

Sure, she questioned some of his actions, but it's almost as if she was doing it out of habit rather than actual concern or care.

As much as she claims her alliance is with the task force, I'm not buying it. Right now she's like a little girl looking up to a father who can do no wrong.

She wouldn't have any reservations stepping into the dark side to run with Red right now. She'd do it in a heartbeat and never look back. Running with Red outside the lines of the law is like a thrill ride for her.

But at least she recognizes she's becoming a different person. Or at least I hope that was the case when she told Red she was afraid of him now more than ever.

She shouldn't be too shocked that she's turning out to be like him. There is an underside to Liz that still needs to be explored.

And hasn't Red been training her to think like a criminal since the very beginning so that she could be better at her job?

So it was interesting that he didn't seem too thrilled that she was having a ball helping him out.

Maybe he realizes he's gone too far bringing her into the fold, and he's being a typical father not wanting to see his daughter fall down the stairs.

But that just doesn't feel right. Something else is bothering Red about her behavior this hour, but what it might be isn't clear.

The Team Gears Up - The Blacklist Season 5 Episode 2

Red's manipulation skills always amaze me. He's had the Task Force eating out of his hand for quite some time, but now that he's in rebuild mode they have no choice but to do what he wants him to.

It's especially true if they want to stay in business and under the radar of the new director who still hasn't arrived on the scene yet.

And while it seemed like Red was going to double cross Harold and team, he once again proved his worth by giving them Greyson Blaise on a platter.

Harold should know better than to think Red would do him wrong. He needs the Task Force as much as they need Red.

The entire premise of Greyson Blaise was a lot of fun. Red is still in his element even if he's not necessarily in the element he's used to being in.

Red is adapting to his situation quite well, even going so far as to dress in something he would never be caught dead wearing in his old life, but he just tossed it off as part of the process.

I loved when he blurted out the truth to Blaise when he thought the gig was up. He had been leading the guy on for so long, and Red wasn't able to do it anymore until Liz saved the day when the painting finally arrived.

Enjoying Life - The Blacklist Season 5 Episode 2

Red was surprised it all panned out, but he didn't show it as he clicked right back into Red mode without missing a beat. Red was the true masterpiece this hour, but isn't he always?

Dembe showed off some of his own skills cooking for a guy instead of beating him to a pulp to get the information he needed. I'd guess that it was the guy's last meal, but who knows. Maybe everyone is turning over a new leaf, but somehow I doubt Dembe let the guy live.

He wasn't too nice to Dennison who had the answers about the suitcase and wasn't willing to give up anything, not even when Red showed up.

Tom has to be feeling the heat. He knows that Red isn't going to stop until he finds the suitcase and will kill whoever gets in his way, even if it ends up being his daughter's husband.

There's no love lost between Tom and Red. Red's been itching to pull the trigger on Tom for some time now and vice versa. He wants Red out of his life, and the mystery of the bones is the key.

Party of Three - The Blacklist Season 5 Episode 2

Red may be the underdog right now, but you can never count Red out. It won't surprise me if he has some idea that Tom knows about the bones.

It was awkward between them at the apartment, and Liz picked it up immediately even if she was secretly hoping the two main men in her life might finally be getting along.

How long before she starts asking questions? And who is going to get burned first? Tom or Red?

Over to you. What did you think of "Greyson Blaise"? Is Liz too giddy about working with Red? Is Red suspicious that Tom knows about the bones?

The Blacklist Season 5 Episode 2 Quotes

It's important for me to keep up appearances. I can't go around looking like a party pooper.

Red

The man knows people, criminals. He's plugged into a whole ecosystem of deviants. I have a hard time believing he's suddenly so compromised he can't be of help to us.
