Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 Episode 2 Review: Booth Three

at .

Ash isn't the only one adjusting to parenthood.

On Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 Episode 2, Ruby gave birth to her little bundle of joy, while Ash discovered that his daughter is in far worse trouble than he had realized.

We also learned a bit more about Dalton and the Knights of Samaria, along with some new information regarding the origin of the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis.

Looming Threat - Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 Episode 2

Not too long after the birth of Ruby's baby, we learned that the child is just as much a part of Ash as he is Ruby. I still don't fully understand how Ash is linked to Ruby's baby, and I thought I had a pretty good idea where this was all headed when it all began.

I was convinced of the possibility that Ruby's baby was actually Brandy, and that everything we have seen with Ruby thus far had been taking place in the past, especially considering her words to her offspring following its attack on the hitchhiker.

You may be born from the image of that idiot Ash, but you'll be nothing like him.

Ruby

While there are certainly a lot of flaws in supporting this idea, stranger things have happened on this series. However, by the end of the episode, this theory was completely debunked.

While the baby is somehow a descendant of Ash, Ruby's intention is to have her child kill Ash and Brandy in order for Ash's power to be transferred to the baby.

Wait a second, Ash has power? What kind of power are we talking about here? Sure, we know Ash is the Prophesized One and all that fun stuff, but what power does Ash actually possess?

Are we just supposed to assume that Ash has some untapped power that's remained dormant for the last 30 years? Why has there never been any mention of it before?

Please help me out here if I have completely missed something.

A Visitor - Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 Episode 2

Ruby might be raising this baby, but I don't think she fully realizes what she's created. Similar to her spawn from Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2, this new evil might end up coming back to bite her -- literally.

While having Brandy actually being the baby and having demon lineage would have been an interesting idea to play around with, there would have been far too many plot holes.

Ash: How was I supposed to know that all that crazy sex would lead to a kid?
Kelly: Yeah funny how that works. You know what, let's just hope you didn't leave any more Brandy's out there.
Ash: Jesus of Anaheim.

At the Williams residence, Brandy has been staying in Cheryl's old room. Naturally, she's not enjoying her stay.

Considering that she's in a strange, creepy house and just found out who her father is while her mother and best friend were killed during the big reveal, I can't say I blame her.

We did get some juicy info on Dalton and the Knights of Samaria while also learning some new tidbits regarding the Book of the Dead.

This ancient evil supposedly links back to master demons known as the Dark Ones. However, one of them apparently betrayed the other masters and banished them from our world.

Where do the Knights of Samaria come into play? They are the ones who stole the Necronomicon from the Dark Ones and hid it on Earth.

School Drop-Off - Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 Episode 2

It's pretty safe to assume that Ruby is the Demon Woman of Fire.

Perhaps what was most interesting, was learning about Kia, the sorceress whose soul was taken and bound within the book. That will likely not be the last time that name is mentioned this season.

Could Kia possibly return at some point? If she does, would she end up aligning herself with Ash or join Ruby? That remains to be seen, but it was a fun little breadcrumb that was dropped for us to nibble on in the meantime.

Ash: We gotta do that thing, what's it called, like when your driving a car, putting on deodorant and trying to drink a beer at the same time?
Kelly: Wreckless endangerment?
Ash: No, Kelly keep up. "Multitasking," that's it.

Dalton also mentioned that only the Prophesized One can defeat The Dark Ones.

That's great and all, but hasn't that already happened? Ash has sent evil packing on more than one occasion, yet it always seems to claw its way back. So, what makes this scenario any different?

Dalton

It's quite humorous how calm, cool, and collected Dalton is with everyone else, but as soon as he's in the presence of Ash, he goes full-on fanboy.

Pablo is still feeling the effects of the evil etching itself back onto his skin. I have no idea who that masked woman was that visited him in the trailer, or if she can be trusted.

But she suggested that Pablo seek out Brujo's magic in order to keep the evil at bay from its hold over him.

I never expected Brandy's guidance counselor to be Ruby! I still don't quite understand how that's possible. Has Ruby been watching over Brandy all of these years under the guise of the Ms. Pevitte?

She's obviously trying to drive a wedge between Brandy and Ash -- not that they're close to begin with -- but she's trying to plant seeds in Brandy's head.

Ash vs Mrs. Lam - Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 Episode 2

Speaking of seeds, Ash took a little trip to Elk Grove's cryobank for some low-key investigating.

What followed was arguably one of the most disgusting and insane moments of the series, as Ash got himself into a bit of a ... sticky situation.

Once Mrs. Lam became possessed and attacked Ash, the whole mess in the lab that Ash kept desperately trying to avoid was all kinds of cringe.

Mrs. Lam: Hello Mr. Williams. How's your father?
Ash: Oh he's still dead.

This scene almost beat out the morgue scene from Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 episode 2 in the gross department. Whenever Ash is put into these situations, it's like a car wreck -- you want to look away, but you just can't help but stare.

I just wish these episodes weren't so darn short! Just when things are revving up, we find ourselves waiting another week for what comes next.
