Netflix is bringing Sabrina Spellman back to the small screen, but the streaming giant's take on the story will be completely different to the comedy series that aired from 1996 to 2003.

Instead, the new series will be based on The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comics, and they are considerably darker than the ABC/WB series that aired back in the day.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa‏, showrunner of the new series took to Twitter to share a picture of Kiernan Shipka and Ross Lynch as Sabrina and Harvey respectively.

"Well, it’s out there. A 1st look at Harvey and Sabrina from the “Chilling Adventures of #Sabrina.” ADORBS, right?" Roberto captioned the tweet.

The series was first announced back in September as a companion series to Riverdale on The CW, but Netflix later swooped in gave the series a two-season commitment.

"The hourlong drama reimagines the story of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age tale that traffics in horror, the occult and witchcraft, naturally," reads the official logline.

Kiernan Shipka Attends Emmys

"The new iteration is described as in the vein of Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist and finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while fighting the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit."

The cast also includes Jaz Sinclair, Michelle Gomez, Chance Perdomo, Lucy Davis, Miranda Otto and Richard Coyle.

Given that the town of Greendale has been referenced (and visited!) several times on Riverdale, there have been a lot of questions about whether the two shows will crossover.

However, Riverdale executive producer, Jon Goldwater recently shot down the idea of a potential crossover.

Right now, we’re not thinking about that,” he told TVLine at Riverdale's PaleyFest panel last week. “They’re two separate entities for right now.”
