Remember how those in the OSP were going to behave since everyone is looking over their shoulders this season?

That didn't even last one episode, as Callen and company got involved with another off-the-books adventure on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 5.

Well, off the books is a little strong. More like under the table.

It was another blast from the past. Tiffany Williams, last seen on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 7 Episode 10, while working undercover for NCIS.

This was another of those occasional episodes when we're reminded that Deeks is more than golden locks, dimples, and a pretty smile. He got to do more than be comic relief, which was a nice change of pace.

Deeks has long felt responsible for Tiffany, and he may have gotten her in trouble by using her as an undercover informant connected to Phillip Robbins, a slimeball who was stealing state secrets and who used to be one of Tiffany's johns.

I mean, that was a great idea, up until the time Tiffany got busted for drugs, then prostitution.

That should have been a sign that Robbins was onto her, and her role should have been revealed then, even if it would put a kink in the investigation. It beats her going to jail for trying to do the right thing.

At least the powers that be are getting back to what works: the four field agents and the pair in Ops solving cases with a minimal amount of adult supervision.

Conveniently, Mosley was gone (but sadly not GONE), Hetty was MIA, Deputy Director Ochoa and Admiral Kilbride were back in DC and Special Prosecutor Rogers had been driven away by OSP inhospitality. In other words, nobody there to say no to this episode's outrageous scheme (calling it a plan is too generous),

Easy peasy. Let's replace the buffoon that Robbins hired to represent Tiffany with ... Callen. Yup, Callen in a suit.

I understand that Deeks was known as an LAPD officer attached to NCIS and that having him as Tiffany's lawyer might endanger her undercover status. But if Robbins set her up, hasn't she already been revealed? Did I miss something there?

So instead we got the funny scenes of Callen being abused by the judge at least until Deeks as Cyrano fed him arguments from the taco truck. So that worked out, as Callen got her bail, then Callen, Deeks, and Whiting got the charges dismissed.

As always, it was enjoyable watching Deeks and Whiting continue their tolerate-hate relationship. You have to wonder if she was an old, drunk, male Irish cop in an earlier life because she still acts like one now.

But at least she can be cajoled to do the right thing. She didn't tell everything she knew, but Deeks was able to get her to confirm his hunches, which moved along the investigation.

Kensi is very secure in her relationship with Deeks, as she didn't object to his involving and then attempting to rescue the hot, young, blonde ex-hooker. She even went undercover at the jail to fill in Tiffany on the "plan." I guess she just chalked Tiffany up as another stray Deeks was trying to save.

She knows how softhearted and well-meaning Deeks is and loves him for it, even if he makes some boneheaded moves along the way (hello, bar!)

Another humorous scene was Nell being a step ahead of Callen about his undercover role. He's not the only one Hetty has been grooming, indeed. Could Nell actually take over as leader, someday sooner rather than later? I'd vote for that so that Callen could stay focused as a field agent.

I still don't get why Robbins and the security team he bought off from Vivid Lock headed to Tiffany's courthouse. Was he just feeling betrayed, or did she actually have enough information to incriminate him?

The smart move would be to go into hiding until he could unload the anti-ballistic program he had just stolen. Walking into a building filled with cops and agents, even with his own muscle, was not the way to go.

The whole Anna-and-Callen situation was very uncomfortable. I assumed he'd backed up her story all the way, but apparently not. Her getting arrested at the end hints that storyline is nowhere near done.

SPOILER ALERT: Maybe (although this is probably wishful thinking) the Mosley storyline may be wrapping up, as NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 6 appears to be addressing that bounty on her head. Oh, boy, it appears the team is back to cleaning up another of her messes.
