Will Andy ever learn?

It's understandable that some people might react irrationally when a kid's life is in danger, but she's trained not to behave that way. She's supposed to keep her cool in a time of crisis.

Instead, on Station 19 Season 2 Episode 2, she made a terrible split-second decision that could have cost a 10-year-old boy his life. She was lucky this time.

She also proved that she's not ready to be Captain.

Pruitt knew what he was doing when he didn't endorse her. He believes in her, and that was evident when he was giving her advice in Spanish, but if she's going to lead, she needs to engage in better decision making.

Side note: Andy really should have known better than just to assume Sullivan didn't speak Spanish. That was another bad oversight on her part.

Maya has every right to be angry with her, but despite that, I hope they make up soon because I want to see the two of them as roommates.

Andy: I think I have to move out of my dad's place.
Maya: I don't know what Miller said, but yes, I approve.
Andy: It's time.
Maya: Way past.
Andy: I mean he's feeling better, he can take care of himself, and I need to do this, right away, before I chicken out and keep living there another 30 years.
Maya: Have you told your dad yet?
Andy: No, God, how do I tell him? What do I tell him?
Maya: You say, "Dad, I've never lived out from under your roof. I need to be an adult now, so I'm moving in with Maya, and I feel confident that you can start folding your own boxers all by yourself."

Now is probably not the best time to broach the subject with her, but since Andy ripped off the band-aid and told her dad she was moving out, she probably needs to check if the offer is still on the table.

If not, she might need to start looking for another roommate or a place of her own.

Andy's not perfect, obviously, but as long as we can see her own her mistakes and learn from them, she'll be a more tolerable character. Maya calling her out was exactly what she needed to hear. Now, let's see what she does with it.

Captain Sullivan is a bit of a hardass, and it was a little hard to stomach everyone's brown-nosing, trying to impress him.

It makes sense though, he doesn't know them, and he's not making an effort to get to know them outside of the field, so they have to show them what they can do in it.

Some of that is to blame (along with the prodding from Pruitt) for Andy jumping in after the kid, but even if he hadn't been there, she probably would have done it anyway.

Maya: You know it's funny, I used to think the worst thing in the world would have been if you made captain, but it turns out Sullivan is the worst. That's a compliment.
Jack: Thanks.
Maya: He's humorless. He micromanages. He doesn't trust us. He won't even eat in the same room. I mean you eat with your mouth open, and sometimes you chew really loudly, but hey at least you've never been too good to be there. Again, a compliment.

Andy did make an effort to get Sullivan to open up and, at the very least, eat with them, but his explanation for wanting to allow the team to relax at mealtimes made sense.

He may be strict with his dress code inspections and mandatory doctor check-ups after every fire, but he does care about his people. He doesn't have to be everyone's best friend, he has to be their boss, and his job is to keep them safe.

Thank goodness they managed to save that boy!

Can you imagine being 10 years old and trapped in that pipe? He was cold, wet, and terrified, holding on for dear life, and his dad was telling him that his mom's not going to make it.

He then had to use that knowledge as motivation to be brave enough to save himself so that he could have the opportunity to say goodbye.

Talk about a bad day!

The crossover aspect was a bit lacking.

Yes, Max's story continued from Grey's Anatomy Season 15 Episode 4, but it would have been better if more of the characters from the crossed shows would have remained involved.

Still, Miller's crush on Maggie was pretty cute as was DeLuca getting a phone number for Vic. Together with Meredith's blind date, this crossover felt like a love connection! Well, except for the fact that Miller got shot down, and Meredith's date didn't go so well.

But hey, if Jackson doesn't come back, there's hope for Miller! Who doesn't want a guy who can make a mean margarita?

Ben: Shrink the haystack, copy Sir.
Pruitt: You're not on duty Montgomery, we can handle this.
Travis: And miss out on the haystack thing?
Ben: I'm the one actually on duty here. [To Pruitt] Sir, you're in resort wear.

Travis is still on medical leave, and Grant wants him to ask his new captain for more time off to heal. Looking beneath the surface, Grant is scared about the next time Travis runs into a burning building. Who can blame him?

He's gotten his first real dose of how it feels to be in a relationship with someone who has a dangerous job, not knowing if he will come home on any given day. Do they have support groups for that sort of thing? If not, Grant and Bailey should consider starting one.

Station 19 Adds Dermot Mulroney for Season 2

Travis needs Grant right now. We don't know how he's going to react the next time he has to put his life in danger. He could experience some anxiety or exhibit signs of PTSD, and he'll need Grant's support.
