Legacies Season 1 Episode 9 Review: What Was Hope Doing In Your Dreams?

at .

Did we really need this much emphasis on Rafael's feelings for Hope?

There was a dream demon on the loose during Legacies Season 1 Episode 9, and Landon could not get Hope out of his subconscious.

Hope's New Path - Legacies

No, that was not a typo. Just when it seemed like Hope and Landon were in a good place, the powers that be thought it would be fun to go all The Vampire Diaries on us to introduce a love triangle.

These are the type of things that divide fans, you guys! That being said, I'm not surprised about all of this, but I hope Julie Plec learned from the mistakes of the original series.

The back and forth between Stefan and Elena and Damon and Elena grew tiring very quickly.

Hope has yet to confirm her feelings for Rafael, but we'd be dumb to believe she and Landon are not headed for some more relationship drama.

Rafael Chats with Landon - Legacies Season 1 Episode 9

Rafael is far too loyal to his foster brother for now, but there's no telling how all of this is going to play out when more details are revealed about Landon's past.

Rafael: This is a dream.
Demon: But you wish it was. And that makes you the worst kind of monster!

The story about the man who burnt Landon with cigarettes was horrible, but it did help add another layer to the character of Rafael.

He was so adamant that Hope was making a mistake by keeping secrets from Landon, but it takes a special kind of person to own their mistake.

There's no telling whether Hope realizes there's something between her and Raf, but given that she's always hanging around him and her status as one of the smartest supernatural beings around, I'm inclined to believe she does.

Landon's Struggle - Legacies Season 1 Episode 8

Hope keeping secrets from Landon was totally fine in my book. She was shielding him from the pain of his mother disappearing from existence, and that's the decent thing to do.

There's also the issue that Hope would have a difficult time explaining to her boyfriend what the hell the tar that absorbs people and sends them to Malivore does. There's also the fact that Landon was conceived in the mystical place.

Yeah, Landon would probably struggle to cope with that information dump, but I'm glad about his chat with Hope that concluded the hour.

He knew Hope was in a tough spot while trying to keep him safe, so giving her a free pass to lie to him was the best foot forward.

Landon Learns the Truth - Legacies Season 1 Episode 8

His conversation with her about being the man who will always be fighting for her made him sound a little too cocky, but we need to remember here that Landon had a terrible upbringing and he's found a girlfriend and a steady home all in the space of a few weeks.

It’s my job to bust my ass until you see me as someone to confide in. … I’m not going to be afraid of losing you anymore, Hope, because I’m going to be the guy who always fights to find you again.

Landon

That will all likely change in the coming weeks thanks to that loser from TRIAD Industries. I was surprised we even got more from him during the episode.

Seylah is now officially absorbed according to her record, but I have no idea why the man is so eager to find Landon.

He does look like he could be Landon's father, but that would just be a little too easy at this stage. The comment about his lack of clearance to access certain parts of the company made me laugh out loud.

Alaric's Decision - Legacies Season 1 Episode 9

The monster of the week was probably the scariest one yet. Having a Freddy Krueger-like villain who invades the dreams of the characters was a great way to show their hopes and fears.

Alaric: The latest monster can only interact with us through our nightmares.
MG: So, like, Freddie Krueger?

It does seem like the creatures coming from the urn are deadlier than the ones that came as a result of the knife.

Hope was badass during the fight after the villain was brought into her world. She pounced on the villain while everybody else could only look on in horror, expecting things to go south.

She and Alaric make a perfect team. Alaric has the weapons and the intel, while Hope has the strength of an army. She would have made her father proud during all of her scenes on Legacies Season 1 Episode 9.

Kaleb and MG being part of the Salvatore Gang was great. Kaleb has been a bit all over the place as a character.

Kaleb Helps Out - Legacies Season 1 Episode 9

I wanted to hate him when he was feeding on the girl and getting MG to question everything about his thirst for blood, but he's blossomed into a decent character.

If MG's nightmares do come true, and he becomes a ripper, I dare say Kaleb could be one of the few people who could get through to him.

Oh yes, MG was dreaming about murdering rooms filled with people as a result of his instincts, and it made for some harrowing scenes.

It's probably a good thing that much of the school's students are holed up at Lockwood Mansion. This was a great little nugget of information for fans of The Vampire Diaries, but it also poses questions about the safety of the school.

Hope Makes a Discovery - Legacies

How long will it be before Alaric has to send students out of Mystic Falls to keep them safe? The creatures are showing up more regularly, and that's becoming a big worry.

"What Was Hope Doing In Your Dreams?" slowed down the pace quite a bit to zero in on the love triangle, and some of the other characters who have long been relegated to the periphery.
