Here is a wrap up of all the news you need to know from Thursday, August 1, 2019. 

The Mindy Project veteran, Chris Messina has been attached to star opposite Matt Bomber on The Sinner Season 3. 

Deadline first reported the news. 

The Sinner was renewed for Season 3 earlier this year, and the next chapter is set to follow Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) as he investigates a car accident in upstate New York. 

As he peels back the layers on the case, Ambrose “uncovers a hidden crime that pulls him into the most dangerous and disturbing case of his career,” according to the official logline.

Bomer is on board as Jamie, an upstanding local resident and expectant father, who looks to Ambrose for support in the wake of the accident.

Messina will play Nick Haas, a college friend who arrives with a surprise that “unexpectedly alters the course of their friendship and their lives.”

Messina is no stranger the small screen and has had roles on Six Feet Under, The Newsroom, Sharp Objects, and much more popular series. 

USA Network has yet to announce when the third season of The Sinner will premiere. 

Meanwhile, AMC has unveiled the first look of Kevin Carroll in character on The Walking Dead.

He is playing Virgil on the tenth season of the series, but beyond the fact that he's trying to return to his family, no other details about his character have been revealed. 

According to the show’s official logline, when it returns, “it is… a few months after the end of Season 9, when our group of survivors dared to cross into Whisperer territory during the harsh winter."

Over in the world of streaming, HBO Max has struck a deal with BBC to be the streaming home to some of its most popular series. 

The new streamer has scored the exclusive streaming rights to all 11 seasons of the current series of Doctor Who. 

Future seasons will also launch on HBO Max following their BBC America Ru. 

The landmark deal also includes The Office (UK iteration), Top Gear, Luther, and The Honorable Woman. 

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is getting the TV show treatment. New streamer, Quibi, has ordered a reboot of the 2003 romantic comedy.

The series “follows a glib young online columnist and an oversexed advertising executive who both need to prove, once and for all, they’re capable of being monogamous. They soon discover, however, keeping a relationship is harder than Andie Anderson made it look!”

Finally, JoAnna Garcia Swisher is joining the cast of Netflix's Sweet Magnolias adaptation.

The series, which is based on Sherryl Woods' collection of romance novels, follows three South Carolina women who have been best friends since high school. 

Swisher is taking over from Parenthood's Monica Potter who was originally attached to star.
