Recap

Coulson experiences a glitch that turns the world to black and white and makes him hear his thoughts pinging around in his head.

It's July 22, 1955, the day Sousa died. His last mission was delivering a S.H.I.E.L.D. device to Howard Stark and kept it from falling into the Russians' hands.

Coulson is locked up after the events of the last episode.

He tells Sousa that he's his contact for the device, that the Chronicom he killed helped him create it and was going to turn it over to the Russians.

Coulson calls Enoch, who is bartending at the S.H.I.E.L.D. safe house. He transfers the call to the Zephyr.

Coulson fills the team in.

Yo-Yo and Deke go to retrieve the device from the home of the real Dr. Lynnmore, whose face the dead Chronicom snatched.

There, they find his body with his face erased. Yo-Yo gets the device, but Deke is taken by two guys.

Yo-Yo returns to the Zephyr and Coulson has to improvise when she doesn't board the train with the package for him and Sousa.

Coulson grabs a briefcase from another passenger on the train and tells Sousa it contains the device.

One of the Chronicoms approaches Coulson on the train when Sousa goes to get a drink.

He has a proposition for him -- he gives them the Earth and they will spare humans. Coulson refuses his offer.

Sousa is attacked one the bar car. Daisy and Mack show up and save him. They take him and Coulson to the Zephyr.

Sousa tells them that he thinks HYDRA has infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D.

The guys that took Deke are HYDRA, as well as the ones who attacked Sousa.

Sousa's superior is Freddy Malick.

Deke is taken to Freddy, but Freddy doesn't recognize Deke. Deke refreshes his memory and Freddy spares his life.

Yo-Yo and May tell Simmons that May had a panic attack in Area 51. They discover she's an empath.

Deke escapes and calls the Zephyr.

Mack wants to save Sousa.

Sousa steals a motorcycle and leaves the Zephyr with the device.

Sousa goes to the Roosevelt Hotel and delivers the device.

Coulson and Mack find Sousa and ice him. Coulson poses as Sousa and is shot by a HYDRA agent.

Daisy and Simmons rescue Coulson. They return to the Zephyr and Simmons fixes Coulson.

The Zephyr makes a time jump before they can retrieve Enoch.

Coulson tells Sousa who they really are and that he's dead according to the history books.

The Chronicom approaches Freddy and offers to team up.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 7 Episode 4 Quotes

Deke: In the '50s, were women allowed to drive?
Yo-Yo: Yes, of course. Why would you-
Deke: I'm sorry! I don't know. I mean, we were just in the '30s and they were really stylish, but it was so sexist and racist. But the '50s though...are still pretty sexist and racist.
Yo-Yo: It always gets better, just never fast enough.
Deke: And some things never change.
Yo-Yo: Can't hurt to try though.
Deke: Well, it could. If we lose control of the timeline and it goes skidding off the road. So that's not the mission now, right?
Yo-Yo: Yep, we're the agents of status quo.
Deke: Sounds like you don't agree with it.
Yo-Yo: Sounds like you do.
Deke: I don't know.

Fate, I don't believe in it. But I know history, I know how the story goes. And when it's playing out right in front of you, it feels like you can't escape it. That fate's gonna catch up to you. Tap you on the shoulder. Whisper in your ear that your time's up. And then your story ends. Sometimes the hero has to die and there's nothing you can do about it.
