As the World Turns Producer Speaks on Show's Cancellation

Yes, As the World Turns really is coming to an end.

In an interview with TV Guide Magazine, producer Chris Goutman speaks on the sad news and on whether or not the soap opera might find a home on another network...

On his reaction to the news: It’s a shame and it’s a shock because we absolutely thought we had a shot at another year. Our show is not ready to go because, creatively, we’re on a roll. We still have exciting stories in the works and we’re sticking to them. We’re not ready to start inviting back old favorites and do the nostalgia thing.

On moving to another network: We just continue to tell good stories and we’ll see how the efforts go in terms of shopping the show around. There will be plenty of time to bring in whomever we want from the past. I think we’re in a very, very good place and we’re excited by everything that’s going on, but the numbers in November just didn’t budge.

All I can do right now is to try to do a good show and keep everyone focused and excited and proud of their work.

As the World Turns: Canceled!

Soap operas are in worse shape these days than the housing market.

A couple months after Guiding Light aired its final episode, CBS has officially canceled As the World Turns. It won't be renewed for the 2010-2011 broadcast season, ending a 54-year run on the network next September.

Said producer Chris Goutman of the news:

"Throughout our history, As The World Turns has remained dedicated to sharing compelling stories that have entertained fans for more than five decades. We are disappointed and saddened by the news that the show is not being renewed. It will certainly be a loss for all of us, and for the show's loyal audience."

Paulina Porizkova Dishes on As the World Turns Character, Guest-Starring Stint

From America's Next Top Model to As the World Turns.

Paulina Porizkova will debut on January 5 on the latter show, kicking off a four-episode stint as Clarissa, a someone in business with Simon.

Paulina Porizkova on ATWT

In an interview with TV Guide Magazine, the former cover girl dished about her character and her upcoming time on the soap opera...

On the offer: Totally out of the blue. I’d never watched soaps or thought about being on them. Now, after doing ATWT, I’m hooked on all of them. I’m a complete addict!

On her character: At first I was like, wait a minute, do they want me to play me, an aging supermodel? Because if that’s the case it’s a no-go. But it turns out Clarissa is an evil conwoman who comes in to destroy people’s lives. I love it! It’s very cool, except she doesn’t quite succeed.

On Simon and Clarissa: [Simon is] giving it all up for the love of a good woman and Clarissa is furious. She just can’t believe it because, frankly, she doesn’t know what love is. She’s so me! She tries to lure Simon into that one job they had going but he doesn’t want to do it.
