It's New Year's Eve on the Season 3 Premiere of Boardwalk Empire. Margaret and Nucky host a party at their home. Margaret has words with a hospital head while Nucky informs his associates down from New York of some changes to expect in the new year. The loudest voice of discontent is Gyp Rosetti whose quick temper we see in the opening scene. Gillian has turned the Commodore's house into an upscale brothel and employs Richard Harrow as her caretaker. Richard takes young Tommy to the fair and learns that Gilian has been telling the young Darmody that she is his mother. In Chicago we meet Dean O'Banion who insults Al Capone's son when he is called before Torrio for violating their agreement. Back in Atlantic City, Nucky expresses his concern to Harry Daugherty about the attention he and his politician friends are getting. Manny Horovitz negotiates a deal to open his own still with Nucky, but Richard puts a halt to his plans when he pays him a late night visit. Agent Van Alden turns in his badge for the life of a door to door salesman, but if offered a job by O'Banion when he breaks up a standoff between the florist and Capone.
