Jay Hixton, a lottery winner, is found shot in his apartment by his butler. He was separated from his wife and his daughter had become an addict. Hixton had tried to get the dealer away from his daughter, having two ex-cons give him a beating. Signs pointed to this being the cause.
Turned out the lottery ticket had belonged to his elderly neighbor who he had helped out and died the day the numbers were called. Hixton felt guilty about the money and often gave it away and had started a soup kitchen. Hixton had dated a woman for several years and had become very close to her son. The son came to try and get the money but Hixton wouldn’t give it to him. This ended in a scuffle and Hixton came up dead.
Martha receives an inheritance from Chet’s estate. She is torn about the money and decides to start an acting school to honor Chet’s legacy. Castle called Beckett’s mothers law school to start a scholarship in her name and wants to hold a benefit to start the funds.
