Cougar Town Review: "Two Gunslingers"

When this week's episode of Cougar Town, "Two Gunslingers," started off with a line about Bobby being gone we already set ourselves up for disappointment.  Bobby has become one of our favorite characters, especially when combined with Andy, and heck, even Grayson.

However, we have to hand it to the rest of the Cougar Town cast,  especially the ladies, for managing to still put together a good episode.  Jules dragged her friends to a resort for her 41st birthday, and Ellie and Laurie treated us to some of their best bickering we love so.

Jules and Trent

Meanwhile, Travis was left home alone, but with Grayson watching over him.  Seeing these two awkwardly interact, including Travis blackmailing Grayson was pretty entertaining.  Unfortunately, the hilarious Andy only had a few brief scenes.

Hopefully next week, the dynamic duo of Andy and Bobby make their triumphant return.  Until then, here are some of our favorite Cougar Town quotes from the episode:

Jules: Hey resort Trent, you're even cuter out of your uniform.
Trent: I'm gay.
Jules: Just go with it, Trent. Come on, I'm trying to scrape together a fantasy here. If I can be Resort Jules, you can be Straight Trent.
Trent: I was Straight Trent for sixteen years.
Jules: Great! What's another hour? | permalink
Grayson: Your mom said, "no girls."
Kylie: It's okay, I'll just get my stuff.
Travis: Do you know what her stuff is? It's flavored lip gloss and an over-sizes t-shirt for when she gets, quote, tired and snuggly. | permalink

Cougar Town Recap: "Don't Come Around Here No More"

We've been sticking it out with Cougar Town only out of courtesy for Bill Lawrence, creator of one of our favorite shows of all times, Scrubs.

Luckily with each passing episode, this show seems to be getting closer and closer to finding its funny niche.  During this last episode, "Don't Come Around Here No More," the entire cast managed to get together for a barbecue at Jules' house.

Cougar Town BBQ

Now that's a good thing because this show is actually good when we see each of the character interacting with each other and actually growing, as opposed to a series of one-dimensional caricatures that rarely interact with each other.

We're hoping by next season (if this show gets renewed), Bill and crew will have this show figured out.  There's no way we can say goodbye to Courteney Cox again.

Now for some of our favorite Cougar Town quotes from last week:

Grayson: You can't stand to be along for a second can you?
Jules: That is ridiculous
Grayson: So why did you go out with father time?
Jules: Because I am a history buff and I haven't been in a car with only a lap belt in a long time | permalink
Jules: I'm happy about Bobby's new horn, the odds from my son dying in a golf cart accident went from definitely to probably | permalink
Ellie [to Andy]: Listen half pint, I'm not gonna thank you for things you're supposed to do. If I did I'd have to start thanking you for killing bugs and supporting me | permalink
Laurie: Dale's not perfect, I mean it's not cool he forges Dan Marino's autograph for a living, but I think he really cares about me, don't you?
Travis: That depends, does he have your name tattooed anywhere on his body?
Laurie: He says he does but I haven't been able to find it | permalink

Scott Foley to Guest Star on Cougar Town

Scott Foley will be the next actor to romance Courteney Cox's character on Cougar Town.

The actor has signed on to appear on at least three episodes of the ABC sitcom. He'll play a businessman that gets involved with his realtor: Cox's Jules.

Foley most recently starred on The Unit. He's also appeared on episodes of Scrubs and House.

Cougar Town Review: "A Woman In Love (It's Not Me)"

We're not entirely sure why, but when Jules found out that her young boyfriend, Josh, loved her, she had to dump him on last night's Cougar Town.

Josh Embraces Jules

Perhaps that's our biggest issue with the show.  We're not really sure how we're supposed to get into these characters when they seem to have no depth or consistency.

Jules, who seems to not want one night stands and waits ten dates to sleep with Josh, suddenly dumps him when he develops feelings for her?  So when did she wants this to become a booty call?  Eleven dates in?  Cougar Town fans, correct us if we're wrong and sound off in the comments below!

Don't worry, we still find the show somewhat entertaining, and as usual have a detailed recap for you of "A Woman In Love (It's Not Me)."

To shed off the rest of the negativity, check out some of the Cougar Town quotes from the episode below:

Laurie: There's nothing in your purse except three hundred dollars
Jules: That's five hundred, that's my half of a stupid bet bobby bet
Laurie: No, this feels like three hundred. My brother sold pot for six years | permalink
Laurie: When I want to end it with a guy, I sleep with his best friend... or brother. Brothers are good because if the guy was hot, chances are the brother is too. Best friends are a crap shoot. | permalink
Ellie: You totally had sex last night
Jules: How'd you know
Ellie: I'm your best friend, I know these things, plus there's a condom wrapper on your back
Jules: Oh, is it just the one?
Ellie: Good god, Jules

Lisa Kudrow: Confirmed for Cougar Town!

Courteney Cox is about to get a little help from her Friends.

Or her Friend, to be accurate.

Lisa Kudrow has signed on to appear opposite former co-star Courteney Cox on Cougar Town, an ABC spokesperson says. What role will she take on? Cox recently told TV Guide Magazine:

“She’ll play a dermatologist that my character can’t stop going to even though [she's] mean to me."

No other Friends are set to appear on Cougar Town, though a couple have been in the news recently:

Both Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry hae news shows in the works.

Cougar Town Review: "You Wreck Me"

We know the rest of the web seems to disagree, but we really think that Cougar Town, like wine and its gorgeous star, has been getting better with age.

As with the last couple episodes, last the show continued to explore more of the supporting characters as more than just one-bit jokes.  In particular, this episode belonged to Bobby.

Grayson Breaks the Record

Previously, Bobby was the lamest excuse for an ex-husband.  Really, who would have even believed that Jules married that joke?

With last night's episode, Bobby showed he was actually a real person.  With Bobby being a real person who just puts on that positive attitude, suddenly he's no longer irritating.  He's actually funny and lovable.

Anyways, enough about Bobby.  There are still other characters.  Like the main one.  You can read all about their events in our "You Wreck Me" recap.  Now it's time for some Cougar Town quotes from the episode!

Travis: Hey mom look what Donny drew. He mostly draws snakes doing horrible things to women, though this one looks consensual
Jules: She does't look happy, Travis | permalink
Ellie: If you don't stop with the hazelnut, I'm gonna make my own coffee
Jules: No you won't
Elie: You're right, even saying it was too much work | permalink
Ellie [about Josh]: He kisses with a perfect seal around you mouth like he's trying to suck your brains out
Jules: I know, but he's gotten so much better
Ellie: That's better?
Josh: I'm gonna get us some more drinks | permalink

Cougar Town Recap: "I Won't Back Down"

Sex was in the air as usual on ABC's Cougar Town as Jules and Bobby discovered an old sex tape of theirs.  Soon Jules was showing it to all her friends and Andy was even trying to convicne Ellie to make their own.

Meanwhile, Jules accidentally admitted to Grayson she found him attractive and then spent the rest of the episode trying to get him to reciprocate, while Bobby tried extra hard to bond with his son.

Jules Likes Grayson

So was Jules successfully able to extract a compliment out of Grayson?  Find out in our "I Won't Back Down" recap.

Now for some great Cougar Town quotes from the episode:

Jules: Oh look who got laid last night
Andy: That's right chumps, missionary accomplished! | permalink
Jules: I can't believe I was married to a guy who keeps his driver's license in a box
Bobby: A box marked important stuff | permalink
Jules: Are you watching my sex tape?
Ellie: Yeah, but with the volume off so it's not so weird | permalink
Travis: As a grown man you think it's a good idea to store most of your earthly possessions in the woods?
Bobby: Calm down, what's a squirrel gonna do with a blender? | permalink

Rachael Harris and Alan Ruck: Cast on Cougar Town

Rachael Harris is moving in to Cougar Town.

As first reported by Entertainment Weekly, the actress (who has guest-starred on CSI, Desperate Housewives and appeared in The Hangover) will play the possibly recurring role of Shanna, Courteney Cox’s new nemesis.

In related casting news: Alan Ruck - who’s currently appearing on FlashForward - has been cast as her husband, Frank. He'll crush on Cox’s Jules, further inciting the Jules-Shanna feud.

Modern Family and Cougar Town Picked Up, Southland Given the Axe

Two of the funniest new shows on TV will remain on the air through May.

Both Modern Family and Cougar Town received full-season pick ups from ABC today, while NBC gave the axe to a show before its second season even premiered.

Just two weeks prior to the October 23 debut of Southland, NBC pulled the plug on this NBC drama. Much to the chagrin of Michael Cudlitz, who played Ben McKenzie's partner on the series. He Tweeted:

"Don't go quietly. People need to know when they f--k up this big. Saw ep 2.1...Dumb f--king people. Call NBC and ask them where the promos are. I am serious."

Earlier this week, CBS announced full-season orders for NCIS: Los Angeles and The Good Wife.

Cougar Town Recap: "Don't Do Me Like That"

As a man, I learned a very important lesson from last night's episode of Cougar Town.  Apparently forty year old women take the entire day to get ready for sex.  At least that's what Bill Lawrence and crew would like us to believe.

The Ladies at Brunch

Other than that, last night's episode also made Jules realize she can't spend her whole life living for other people and has to be a little selfish, Bobby learned to step it up with parenting, and Grayson may have learned there's more to women than lookgs.  Emphasis on the may for Grayson.

Find out what else happened in our "Don't Do Me Like That" recap.  Now for some of the best Cougar Town quotes from the episode:

Jules: You never go all out for a guy?
Laurie: If I really like a guy I'll stop texting while I do him
Ellie: I wish you were my daughter | permalink
Andy [to Bobby]: We get along so well, our sons should hang out
Travis: Mr. Torres, I'm 16 years older than your son | permalink
Travis: Good bye, I love you dad
Jules: Oh my god, did he just say I love you?
Bobby: I know, pretty gay right? | permalink
